Stuff I found at PAX

Post » Sat Oct 30, 2010 4:23 pm

While I was strolling the halls of PAX, I happened to come along a large room filled with hundreds of PCs. After I played some TF2, I decided to post a premature post. Here is what I found today (so far) and I'll update later with pictures and hopefully some new info. Enjoy!

New Magazine: Lad's Life. Depicting a boy sitting at a campfire, this magazine grants +10 Survival
I saw someone collect a Sunset Sarsaparilla Bottle Cap. Whether or not this is a separate currency remains to be seen. EDIT: It isn't
New Faction: Jackal Gang. A person playing stumbled into a group of female gang members. They have the large spike hairdo (forgot the name), wore Merc Charmer armor, and each member carried a 10mm Pistol, which leads me to suspect that the pistol is not as rare as i once thought.
You can buy blackjack/caravan cards at some (less then refutable) vendors and supposedly cheat at the games.
New Weapon: Cleaver.
New Weapon: Straight Razor. For when you want to pretend you're Sweeney Todd.
New Drug: Steady. It decreases the weapon spread while it's active. Ironically, the picture is blurred because I couldn't keep my phone steady.
Final Skill list:
Barter
Energy Weapons
Explosives
Guns
Lockpick (I tried picking a lock, exact same minigame as FO3)
Medicine
Melee Weapons
Repair
Science
Sneak
Speech
Survival
Unarmed

I also caught a near complete screen shot of the tutorial of the different ammo types:
Armor Piercing: Ignores a large portion of the enemy's Damage Threshold, does slightly more damage.
Hollow Point: Does much more damage but is easily blocked by armor.
Over Charge: Used by Energy Weapons, increases damage but degrades the weapon more quickly.
Slug: Used by shotguns, slugs replace buckshot with a single, powerful bullet that is more accurate.

UPDATE: PAX has drawn to an end, but I (somehow) got to play a full hour. So get ready, I got a lot more details to throw at you. :celebration:

First things first, Fixer, from my first thread, actually is a "Temporary Addiction Removal" drug.
New Weapon: Long Fuse Dynamite. When 4 seconds is not enough
Gatling Laser is back.
Ants are back, but without fire breathing abilities.
Centaurs are back.
New Misc Item: Duct Tape. Hey, its still new so why not post it.
The Rad Resistance perk still gives a 25% resistance.
Hacking is the same as in FO3.
New Enemy: Mole Rat Pup. It was chewing off my leg and I still thought it was adorable.
NCR members can drop Dog Tags, similar to the BoS in Fallout 3.
Leather Armor, according to the Vault Boy picture, is long sleeved.
Night Vision Confirmed.
Binoculars, found in Primm, weigh 1.5 pounds and is found in the weapon slot. Offers a little amount of zoom, but still useful.
Golden Geckoes are scary.
New Location: Crescent Canyon (and technically Crescent Canyon East). A scary place in the nighttime, this canyon houses boats, radiation, and Golden Geckoes, oh my!
This game will be a lot more dynamic, as on one part of my trek, I noticed to ants feasting on the carcass of a radscorpion.

And that is what I learned at PAX. I had a blast. I got 10 t-shirts (one being the coveted NCR shirt) and I also got a neat set of post cards, one of them a card from Hoover Dam. So I hope you enjoyed this little field day and stay classy, Planet Earth.

UPDATE: Here is my proof. It doesn't cover all, but it covers most of it. I could've gotten more, but a Bethesda employee was hovering over my shoulder today.

Admin: We didn't allow on-screen photography at the booth -- please refrain from linking to the images. Good reporting otherwise.

The Jackals being in it is interesting. They were mentioned in Fallout 1. With them and the Khans being in it, that leaves the Vipers as another possible Raider gang in the game too.

Can't wait to see the effects and possible that we can get drunk.

Cheating at cards, oh boy.

Thx for all the info, I definately have a plan to create a junky character.

Damn, weapon spread is still in? I was hoping it was replaced with recoil.

Well there's also sway in addition to spread to make sure you use weapons you actually know how to use. There's no need for actual recoil. Don't forget that a lot of the recoil in games like CoD is purely visual (like most notable the ACR and AK-47 in MW2).

Sway is fine, I just hated how the Chinese AR felt like it stood still while the bullets fired in a spiral motion.

Good point. It would be nice if they at least threw in some visual recoil.

Any sign of the combat shotgun, Gnome? And if there was, was it the Winchester City-Killer from Fallout 1 and 2, or the PpsH ripoff from Fallout 3?

Also, thanks for all this great info!

+10 to the survival skill with the magazine that's an awful lot? Is there any text to read in the mag or to you just "activate" it?

Whoa and sunset caps? So how many currencies are we at? Four? Five? Overkill?

I wonder how many cards constitute a full deck for Caravan?

I'm still a little sad they didn't use Tragic, and make that into a collectible card game.

Are both magazines and books just an "activate" or can you read them like in TES?

I'm pretty sure they still are just 'activate' items.

No we don't know that it is a separate currency yet. It could just be a part of the Bottlecap currency, and just be an alternate way to get them, if not THE way to get them (depending on if Nuka Cola is in).
I personally doubt they'll be a whole new currency.

Lockpick (I tried picking a lock, exact same minigame as FO3)

I was hoping they would have come up with a different lock pick and computer hacking mini games. It would be nice to have a few different types of lock picking mini games since not all locks are the same. Maybe at least a different game for each higher difficulty lock.
