Subway trademarks the word "Footlong"

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 9:38 am

In which case they probably wont be successful? This is only a potential trademark, not an actual one yet...

A little bit early to send cease-and-desist letters, then? Looks like the footlong hasn't lost any of it's potency yet!

I'm very annoyed at the local Subway cause they stopped to sell meatball subways about half a year ago, and those were awesome <_<

Subway's meatballs were always too shriveled up for my liking. Much better places around here with big juicy ones.

I'm fairly sure that's a standard thing when the application for a trademark is progressing. Saves time, or something?

Oh. My. God...

EDIT: I swear, BGSF has forever scarred me with the ability to see double entendres and sixual innuendos non-stop. Stop it! Get it out of my head! :ahhh:

For me it's a half hour ferry ride and then another 30 miles to Alkmarr, the closest city with a subway's :(

weird thing:
The Subway's in Alkmarr are clean and tidy, with appetising condiments displayed.
In Amsterdam the few Subway outlets I've tried were dumps :yuck:

Way to un-subtle the humor there, bub.

Your Welcome :P
But on a more serious note I want a sub from subway now.

I'm surprised this doesn't go away.

You can't trademark "footlong." I'm quite certain other places used that exact word long before Subway started doing it. Calling your product a "Subway" would be more relevant.

For some reason I doubt the meatballs they serve in Subway in Canada and the meatballs they served here in the local Subway here in Sweden are from the same place.

I've just realised I've never actually been inside a Subway shop.

I've heard of the term "footlong" to describe a sub sandwich my entire life. I hate to see this kind of trademark ridiculousness, so they just lost a customer.

Seriously? You're going to stop buying from Subway because of this?

I've been inside, but I don't think it counts.

I left almost immediately and never went back in.

Actually, if you are a very large and prominent coorporation, you can trademark "footlong".
It's happened before.

Let's just say that my reaction to that event made baby Jesus cry.

Just like what subway is doing with its footlong.

I'm actually surprised with how many here actually enjoy Subway's sandwiches. I've had Subway twice, and believe me, the second time was out of sheer desperation. I'll take a sandwich from a local deli over Subway any day.

Let them trademark "footlong." I've never heard a sandwich called a "footlong" until I almost suffocated from laughing the first time I heard their "5$ footlong" jingle.

Still haven't found a decent sandwich shop...

I'd still prefer a sandwich with most of the ingredients from Central Market though.
