Taverns Are Such A Let Down

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 11:19 am

I had high hopes for the taverns and they were one of my most anticipated features especially since the location is Skyrim.

But....they all look the same and all the bards play the same 3 songs.

What happened Beth?

Another bash thread from you ? Classy.

I like the taverns. I didn't have high expectations, but the designs are varied enough for me, and the bards and random bar crawlers make for good enough atmosphere for me.

Find a new hobby instead of starting these bash/flame wars on a forum for a game you clearly don't enjoy lol

My one major complaint about the taverns is that, even in the cities, they always seem empty.

You go to a tavern in a small village, there's a bartender and one person. Go to a place in Solitude, it's bigger - bordering on huge, even - but there's a bartender, and 5 people.

Shouldn't there be a time when the whole town is in there? Right after shops close, or maybe closer to midnight? Something? Or am I just always missing those times?

I think drinking and eating animations for the player might add some depth to the taverns. I see were you're comming from on this one, I was looking forward to drinking at the pub with some of my nord freinds.... Bethesda, Y U NO MAKE GOOD TAVERNZ!?

I love taverns. Sometimes, when you enter, you sit down on the stool, the bartender'll be all like, "-barmiad-, go get this customer a drink!" And then the barmaid'll come over, and talk to yah. Its perrty interesting, and I find it way more crowded than you guys say.

The only tavern that seems to have a decent amount of activity in my opinion is the one in Riften.

Not really. Lots of times I go into the Bannard Mare, and the entire [censored] city is having a rave or something around the fire.

I've never had that happen.

Have you been in a tavern more then once?

Yeah that was cool. And all the inns and taverns in main cities are all different and pretty crowded in my game. Some of the smaller town taverns are similar, but overall Im happy with them.

NPC schedules were one thing Oblivion did better than recent Beth games, including the Fallouts. Many if not most characters don't even go to bed at night in Skyrim (which must make it hard for vampires to get a midnight snack).

Actually, Skyrim has the better taverns of the series. Go play the earlier games again and stare at the wax dummies awhile and you'll see what I mean.

They're not mindblowing. They are better.

I disagree. Arena and Daggerfall had taverns that mopped the floor with Skyrim's, updated technology allotments aside, in my opinion.

On one hand, I do like the small Long House design that Beth went with for the majority of the inns/taverns I frequent in game but I do wish they were a tad bit more productive. The major hold city inns/taverns though do (IMO) succeed in that point though. Riften to Markarth, the inns all feel frequented with enough traffic for me. It's usually the holds without a city wall (Dawnstar, Winterhold, etc) that don't get the love from the townsfolk when I play.

I agree that too many inns/taverns have the same layout. I'm waiting for modders to do something about it, and to the lack of people as well.

Whine whine whine

If taverns - an entirely secondary flavor feature - were your most anticipated feature about Skyrim, you really need to look at the mirror and see what's really wrong here.
You know what? Bunnies were my most anticipated feature in this game. But they are so empty! They are all the same colors, they just run around and look stupid! Elder Scrolls is RUINED FOREVER.
Since when did you become a milkdrinker?

Edit: Taverns are a pretty important feature when you think about the Nord culture.

The person who started this thread is very negative. He's somewhat of a chronic complainer. Every single post of his is bashing Skyrim. He says how much he loves Morrowind and Daggerfall, yet he is always in the Skyrim section complaining about the game.

He needs to just play another game, seriously.

74 posts all moaning and complaining, every single one, literally.

The problem I have with taverns in Skyrim is a problem I have with most interiors in the game. They're too damn bright with too much ambient lighting!

I don't feel as though i'm in a harsh, gritty province when every room or dungeon is lit up like there's electricity.

I understand that it makes visibility easier for console players sitting at a distance from their TV screen, but still... it ruins the atmosphere.
