The Civil War from an Argonians point of view

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 12:22 pm

I read through parts of the thread about which side a Bosmer should join, but I've been thinking about this for a while now. I've always been a strong Stormcloak supporter only because of how much I've come to dislike the Empire and what it has become.. however, I have never given much thought into what an Argonian would think of the conflict. My fellow Argonians in Windhelm don't mention anything about it specifically, but the Stormcloaks don't seem to mind another race joining their ranks.. or at least Galmar doesn't and as I said in another thread, given Skyrims history being the way it is I can kind of understand where the racism comes from.

However, I've been trying to think more openly lately about what I should think as an Argonian rather than my own feelings as a player. Black Marsh seceded from the Empire around the time Elsweyr did but I don't know what they think about the Aldmeri Dominion.. though the Argonians apparently forced out the Daedra during the Oblivion Crisis and the Daedra themselves had to close gates to stop from being overrun (this has been mentioned in a few threads, though the UESP doesn't say anything about it).

Now comes the real question though of which side would be better suited for an Argonian.. should I stay as a Stormcloak supporter or should I switch sides and join the Imperial Legion? I have not done the end of the Legion but I've read about it.. how the Argonians aren't allowed in Windhelm for their own safety among other things. With all the reading I've done from the Empire vs. Stormcloak threads, I've had a lot of conflicting thoughts.. and with this thread I want to try to clear some of that up. The game (at least as far as I know) never goes into what the Argonians think of the War, and I'm not sure the Dumner say anything about it either.. closest thing I've ever heard is that Ulfrics steward says the Dumner are not sympethic to the Stormcloaks.

For those of you who have strong opinions about both sides, Argonian or not, which side do you think would be better suited for an Argonian?

Empire especially if they lived outside of Windhelm.

I think for an argonian it would be empire. The storm cloaks hate argonians and after the civil war free winter takes over and helps the dark elves and maybe the argonians also. But I would go with Empire.

It's a matter of personal conviction for your character, but for an Argonian I'd say Empire.

I sided with the Legion solely because I knew that things would be bad for the Argonians if the Storm Cloaks won. They would be forced out of jobs(except as dock workers maybe), or forced out of Skyrim entirely. And probably would be treated worse.

Also I'm of the opinion that what most Argonians think of the war is that they simply don't give a [censored].

I believe that is the way it goes. Most races as a whole don't care, apart from Altmer, Nords and Imperials.

If I recall the Argonians at the docks in Windhelm say that Ulfric treats them terribly and that Ulfric supports the Nords who choose to pay them a single septim per hour of work and what not and are happy when the Empire takes over because they have a quote "Cosmopolitan" view on the world while Stormcloaks are very hateful to any race that is in Skyrim that isn't of course Nord.

Argonians in my opinion would go for the Empire due to how their treated by the Stormcloaks same for Dunmer and Khajit.

Well then, I suppose I can officially switch sides if it means making the Argonians happy.

I wonder though.. which of them say this? I've never heard any of them mention this.. I do however intimidate Shatter-Shield to pay them more. I'm going to go Windhelm here soon as I'm currently on Season Unending but I'll be reloading an earler save soon.. I just want to hear a specific set of dialogue.

You're not in the position to be making threats.... :P
Welcome to the Orsimer's world. Where crazy stuff happens, then your rival race swoops in and takes advantage. =S
Though......the Dunmer kinda brought it on themselves.

if I recall its the one that you get a misc quest to talk to a Nord to get them better pay.

I'll google his name in a second.

Actually several of the dock workers tell you about the cruelty of the Nords/Stormcloaks.

Shahvee tells you they are treated badly.

Scouts-Many-Marshes says ""I came here as a hatchling. The only thing colder than Skyrim is the Nords themselves, but we stick together."" ""We work where we can get work. The Nords don't like unloading their ships, so we do it instead. Sometimes cargo goes missing."

If I recall Neetrenaza is the argonian who tells you about how badly the Argonains are paid and if the nords don't like them the Argonians should hate them as well and gives you a unmarked quest to talk to one of the Nord cruel-sea guys to get them better wages.

It really depends on the Argonians personal experience in all reality they probably wouldnt join any side and keep to themselves like the dock workers.

That's how I feel about it.. after reading on how we were enslaved by the Dumner, I came to dislike them in general. Now you're acting as though we Argonians did something wrong.. We only did it to get even.. you started it, we finished it.

I wonder why you don't see more argonians elsewhere. Riften's argonians seem to be doing well for themselves(Though Wujeeta has a skooma addiction you can help cure). But that's really the only other place you find them besides solitude. Ahtar in solitude notes that if torygg were alive, he'd never have let "A filthy argonian" like Jaree into the city.

As an Argonian player, I feel as if that attack went too far. Morrowind had already been blown to Coldharbour by Lie Rock, and here we have a horde of brethren bringing more death to the Dunmer. House Telvanni may have deserved it, but all the innocents that died? Too far.

It's unfortunate that the argonians get the blame. They weren't in control of their faculties at the time. They got all hopped up on hist sap by the hist and told to go attack the dunmer. At that point in time, the Dunmer had actually completely outlawed slavery. The retribution against the dunmer wasn't because of slavery though. The hist held a grudge against the dunmer for their incursions into black marsh where they cut down some of the hist.
