Alright well I'm about to upgrade my GPU to a Radeon 6850, and I can either get the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102908 now, or I could save up a little more for the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102959 for 30$ more. What do you guys think?

(my PSU is a Thermaltake TR-2 500W ATX 12V 2.0 btw)

I'm recording video of Kingdoms of Amalur using fraps, and the actual .avi videos look good. I compressed one, using xvid, and uploaded it to youtube, and now the quality is crap. How do I fix this?

Also, I can't figure out how to get fraps to record my computer's output audio. I'm using just a regular microphone to record my voice, but I want the game's audio to be recorded as well, and not just through my speakers.

What does the video look like after you compress it, but before you upload it to youtube? Is it also crap?

Speaker sound recording is disabled by default in WIndows Vista/7, so you must enable it: http://www.ehow.com/how_5710800_record-speaker-sounds-windows-7.html

And I need to update my sound drivers, but I'm not sure where to look for those. I don't have a sound card in my computer.

Hey all. I'm trying to think of a way to connect an Xbox 360 (and/or PS2) to a monitor that lacks a HDMI input, and my computer speakers. I know I can get an RCA to VGA or DVI cable for the display, but I'm stuck on what to do for audio. I'm thinking a RCA Female to 3.5mm Female and Male, then plugging the speakers into the 3.5mm Female, and the 3.5mm Male into my computer. But I can't find something like that.
I wish I could explain this a bit better.

Just get something like http://www.amazon.com/Stereo-Splitter-3-5mm-Audio-Adapter/dp/B0009JFF7A/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1327649065&sr=8-7 and plug your speakers into it. Or use a 3.5mm extension cable to connect that adapter to the line-in jack on your sound card, then you won't even have to unplug the speakers from your computer.

Lol thanks. Last night, after I turned off my computer I started thinking "why would I need a 3.5mm Male? to plug into my computer?" lol....... Thats the last time I post something when I'm tired. And thanks for the assistance.

So I'm hoping someone may know how to do this because I've tried using Google and looking throgh my files myself and haven't come up with anything:

I use Clonezilla to image my laptop and it has been going well so far, however I would prefer to just do it from the command line than the GUI. The problem is that when Clonezilla ends it will say the command that you can use to repeat the operation in the future. It also says that it has saved this to a file in /tmp/, where is /tmp/? I looked in the root directory of the partition being imaged as well as the are where the image is being stored.

Try converting it to a different format (simplest would be to just run it through Windows Movie Maker, if you have that installed, otherwise use WinFF)

If it's on-board sound, look up what motherboard you have (you can use http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html to get the model number). Usually you can get sound drivers from the motherboard's driver page, otherwise the motherboard's page will tell you the sound chip used, and you can go from there to get the drivers.

I have WMM installed, but it won't let me save the movie to my HDD. Not sure why.

Doing that now.

What's the difference between a TV screen and a PC screen? I want to get a bigger screen than I have. PC screens cost more, and I just don't feel like wasting money if I don't have to. Is a TV screen just as viable/useful/whatever as a PC screen for doing PC stuff on?

The sound driver is the one labeled Realtek High Definition Audio Driver.

What size/resolution is your current monitor? I don't think PC monitors cost more... you can get a 1920x1080 monitor pretty cheap these days, but a 1080p TV will cost you a few hundred dollars at least.

-snip-
Well, if it is only going to be used for very light gaming at the most, then it would be fine, as long as it is not CPU heavy.
It would work as a recreational computer due to the low hard disk space.
Overall, do not expect to play new games on mid-high graphics.

A TV screen usually has a more complex interface and has more ports, allowing for more items at once, but due to the different interface, it can argue with the screen resolution a bit. A TV screen is also much larger and comes with built in speakers, and most PC screens do not come with speakers. PC screens are faster generally too. It is more convenient for me to have a TV screen because I am often doing multiple things and having to switch inputs, and it means i have to move less.

This is a must-have driver. Works better than anything standard you'll get with your audio equipment.

I think it's a 23", 16:9, 1920x1080.

I want to get a 40-something/50-something" wide-widescreen, 16:10, and want to be able to run things at double my current resolution. Can a TV do this?

PC screens are faster generally too.

What does this mean for gaming?

The main reason I want a huge TV screen, too.

TVs are currently maxing at 1920x1080, the same resolution as you have. If you want to have more space, you should get a second monitor. (Or 3 if you have a GPU that supports Eyefinity)

You "Publish" to desktop in WMM. Otherwise, as mentioned, use http://winff.org/html_new/ to convert it.

Besides some pretty much just off the manufacturing room floor TVs, TVs max out at 1080P (same resolution you're currently using). The highest resolution you can get that's easily available for monitors is 2560 x 1600

That's the resolution I meant. Just couldn't remember exactly what numbers were in what order. So a TV screen will do pretty much everything a PC screen does? Thanks for the answers, both of you.

Urm, hold on.

I've tried using two monitors before. It's just a huge headache for me.

So if I want the high resolution, the large size, the wide-widescreen-iness, I'll have to shell out a lot of money for a PC screen?

Widescreen TVs are 16:9 aspect ratio and only go up to 1920x1080 (1080p) resolution. 23" is a pretty good size unless you want to sit far away from your computer for some reason.

What do you mean by "wide-widescreen"? A 16:10 aspect ratio is narrower than 16:9.

I downloaded WinFF, and converted the .avi file to an MPEG4 file. I ended up with two .mp4 files, one just audio, and one that doesn't play in windows media player(I'm assuming it's the video).

Got it. I do a lot of work at my PC, and the eyestrain is getting to me. A bigger screen would help, a lot.

I just thought about this, and you're right. That was dumb of me. I know there's an even wider screen. Is that 2:1?

Hey guys, got http://www.amazon.com/Hardware-Hacking-Projects-Geeks-Fullam/dp/0596003145 for my birthday. Wondering how much it'd run me to get a soldering iron (and the other stuff needed), wire strippers, needle nose pliers, and some wire? I'll update with a full list of what it recommends you have later, but I figure you guys might know this off the top of your head as opposed to me doing tons of Googling.
