The Glory of Two-Handed Weapons

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 9:47 am

Any one who is willing to take some heat off the battle is good enough for me. Once I achieved level 8, I felt like I could go just about anywhere on my own. I'm still struggling to deal with dragons on my own, so any follower with ranged attacks is great in that aspect.
I'd suggest Kharjo. Or someone expendable.

sorry for this quick hijack- i just came out of a pinewatch at night and was ambushed by a dragon that i almost took down before barely dying. it was then, during my dying scene that i realized that after dealing with all my loot, i had forgotten to put on any armor!

my naked nord 2hander almost got the big worm, lol.

You don't need armor or clothes if you have a big enough sword!

Or.. use 2 one handed daggers and murder someone before they can even realize their dead!

If you wanna go that way, use a bow... 2H hammer & 1H sword FTW

I've made three characters in Skyrim and they've all been 2-hand characters. I keep meaning to make a mage or rogue but 2-handed swords keep calling me back. It was the same in Morrowind and Oblivion. Never played a sword-and-board character in those games, either.

As LordBafford says: "The gods gave you two hands. Use them both for your weapon."

I've played Skyrim for 220 hours without once swinging a two-handed weapon. Since I found myself bored with my sneaky archer and feeling curious, I decided to start a new game, aiming to create a Paladin class (Two-Handed, Heavy Armor, Illusion, Restoration) with a Khajiit.

Making my way through the fort at Helgen, crushing skulls with bare hands, I encountered my first two-handed weapon: an iron greatsword. With bruised knuckles and a firm grip, I took up the rusted blade amidst battle, swung mightily at a villainous Stormcloak, and smote him down to the dirt from whence he came. With the twang of the blade still resonating loudly from the blow to his temple, I engaged another Stormcloak, this time with the bloodlust of a maniac.

Forget their slow, encumbering nature. Forget the vulnerability you feel. The gods gave you two hands. Use them both for your weapon.

Bahahahah well said my 2H brother! Words to live by

I do use both hands, in fact it's the reason why you'll be dead on the floor before you even reach me. I love bows.

That's what the "Deflect Arrows" perk in Block is for. Makes Archers cry.
Anyways, my Nord Warrior uses Mace of Molag Bal+Spellbreaker half the time, and Volendrung the other half of the time. Nothing quite like having a big ass Warhammer that swings at the speed of a Greatsword that not only ignores 75% of Armor but also absorbs 50 Stamina, allowing me to spam power attacks.

Two-handed all the way!

It is also the more humane weapon. It's a cruel thing to slowly chip away at an enemy with those puny shortswords and butterknives. A good greatsword will take an Imperial's still smiling head clean off. He'll be in sovngarde before he knew what happened. It's the kind thing to do.

There is something strangely satisfying over seeing that Warhammer 'finisher' - Kneecapping your opponent before bringing the weight of the hammer down on their skull...

Really? My Orc mercenary is the character I've defeated the first Dragon from Whiterun with in the shortest time. I was only level 5 at the time, but I managed to finish the thing the very first time it landed, in under a minute.

Felt a little anticlimactic, to be honest. But it was how my character fought. Steel Battleaxe, crafted to 'Fine'. Done in seconds.

I used 2H in the early stages of my character (Imperial), but in close quarters an enemy could get in two hits before I could get in one, so I switched to archery (love stealth, ranged attacks!) and 1H with casting. I also use staffs. But there's nothing like a cinematic power attack from a 2H!

I'd like to use them with my current character, but as an Imperial he seems a tad short...even Lydia has a height advantage. It's the overbalancing actions that have turned me off so far, which is a shame.

2handed weapons are big, clunky, and sloooooooooooow!! dagger are the only way to go, speed and finesse are what counts. dagger are also useful outside of battle, perfect toy to play with my newest "friends", but boiling alive is much mroe fun so that point is mute

2 handed weapons for me! Pretty early on I found an Orcish Warhammer. I've been using that ever since and never changed to a different weapon. It's damage is now up to 51 and currently it ignores 50% of armor. When it comes to dragons I just wait for it to land and then I dig in!

Aye definitely, took me a while to get into 2handers, now I love em.

I use 1h+shield also to mix it up, and besides, goin up against dragons without a shield is just too immersion breaking for me :)

Holy crap, dragons with two handed weapons! Bastards are putting up a real fight these days.

I love my Skyforge Steel Greatsword!! I named it Tyrfing and I'm still using it at level 34. It's now Legendary, not only in quality, but in reputation in Skyrim as well

Yes. Awesome post, awesome topic.

I'm just a little saddened by this, though, since my greatsword-wielding Nord died a few days ago and I was playing Dead is Dead. I was having a ton of fun doing forward-rush power attacks (not sprinting, yet) to close with Forsworn and one-hit them.

I did have trouble with dragons, but I didn't have a companion and so I would whittle them down with arrows and cowering behind cover. Not very heroic, I know, but I just couldn't stand there and take the heat until their health was very low; then it was all about the time-slowing shout.

Anyway, the death occurred after I had just received a level-up but forgot about it... it would have allowed my health & stamina to refresh... so I'm wondering if maybe that oversight on my part should let me feel ok about reloading that guy, since he never even got to try out decapitations, poor bastard.

Or is that too cheap?
