The Glory of Two-Handed Weapons

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 1:10 pm

It's kinda funny that this post should pop up. Last nigh I got bored with my other characters and decided to make a new one.

I made this giant nord that looks like the guy in the armor shop at Whiterun. He runs around in nothing but an iron helmet killing everything with an iron warhammer. O_o

I kill everything so quick that the lack of armor doesn't even matter, lol.

Im using Conjuring for my magic 2 hander. Its kinda cool. But I have so much trouble with boss's. 200 health, heavy armour and this boss one shots me every time with his bow. Or shouts at me and then kills me. Sigh.

I always found it best to focus on my builds and I always raise health for my warrior; rogue builds. The perk in heavy armor, Tower of Strength, will help against the enemy shout. If I really want conjuration, High Elf is nice due to +magic, or +magic on my heavy armor helm so I can keep raising health. Later on in the game and with cast cost reducing perks, I might put a few points into magic to cast the higher level summons, by that time I have high health and armor. There's also a nice shout that makes you...impossible to be hit...I won't spoil it though. Just my 2 cents.

So... what can an Innkeeper take to the knee to pickup the career path of adventuring?
I think I'll make my huntress an Innkeeper-turned-Hunter after taking a bounty notice.

Then we can get an endless conversation loop!

The next character I want to make is an Orc berserker 2hander warrior.
Who is a good follower to take? Would another warrior be good? Or is it better to have the higher DPs caster followers?
Regardless, I'm looking forward to experience you have

Edit: I've always gone with sneaky bow / dagger wielders, so this is still new to me. Typically, do you go with axes, swords, or maces?

Its a matter of which you prefer. I use an enchanted Ebony Battleaxe. I have Marcurio, destuction mage/2h, as my follower to provide a good balanced attack. And I am the same way in that my character is always the bow/dagger weilder... but this time, I've leveled up 2h to have as a strong option for close quarter combat, and it is awesome. I love walking into caves weilding my bow, but ultimately find myself dishing out slices with my battleaxe or greatsword when things get tempered, or when I'm caught off guard by more than one enemy.

I love 2h perks, like more bleeding damage, swinging at multiple enemies, decapitation.
I love this post. :foodndrink:

I'm a big fan of 2H weapons, especially greatswords.

My Ashlander ruthlessly finishes off foes with a 2H-sword. Decapitation is just too sweet.

2H weapons FTW! Nothing more satisfying than a spinning horizontal chop to the mouth.

So true. For the longest time I was only getting the "impaling" kill animation. I was a little disappointed there didn't seem to be much variety.

Then a saber-cat took my greatsword to the jaw.

This argument reminds me of the two companions, the dark elf and the balding one I think fighting over daggers and hammers

Nearly 300 hours of game time and I've never done anything but archery, which I still love to bits. Doesn't two-handed get a bit boring after a while though? It's slow, you don't have to do any sort of aiming or anything, and the only fun thing is probably blocking a power attack or something. At least sword and board gives you more combat options.

I don't see many people in favor of weapon and shield, its not as flashy, but I like the strategy it adds.

That's what the "Deflect Arrows" perk in Block is for. Makes Archers cry.

Uh, that perk only works with shields.

Yes I'll vote for shields. They are so much better done in this game, the shield bash is satisfying and having slo mo power attacks miss you or thunk impotently against your shield is very nice.

The SHIELD perks of deflecting arrows and absorbing elemental damage are great, and the charge forward knock people down perk for SHIELDs is so overpowered, broken, awesome and perfect. CAPTAIN AMERICA CHARGE !!!

Can the sword and board sweep through 8 enemies at once with a sideways power attack? Didn't think so!
Two handed is for real Dovahkiins. We let the potions, the armour and the gods be our board!

I've played Skyrim for 220 hours without once swinging a two-handed weapon. Since I found myself bored with my sneaky archer and feeling curious, I decided to start a new game, aiming to create a Paladin class (Two-Handed, Heavy Armor, Illusion, Restoration) with a Khajiit.

Making my way through the fort at Helgen, crushing skulls with bare hands, I encountered my first two-handed weapon: an iron greatsword. With bruised knuckles and a firm grip, I took up the rusted blade amidst battle, swung mightily at a villainous Stormcloak, and smote him down to the dirt from whence he came. With the twang of the blade still resonating loudly from the blow to his temple, I engaged another Stormcloak, this time with the bloodlust of a maniac.

Forget their slow, encumbering nature. Forget the vulnerability you feel. The gods gave you two hands. Use them both for your weapon.
I'm using mods which add more realistic two-handed swords (faster and less bulky), as well as the ability to run with it in one hand, and only use both hands when you actually attack, and it makes the gameplay great. There is the obvious downside of not being able to use spells while fighting, but the power of two handed weapons, and their ability to 'shield bash' more than makes up for it imo.

Isn't making two handed weapons faster and less bulky less realistic? I don't know anyone who could run with a greatsword in one hand. Sounds painful to me. I'm not picking on you I'm just stumped as to the logic of it.

I started off with a sword & shield but that didn't work very good for me. So I used a great sword that I had found & that was better. Then I found a Great Battle Axe !!! and I've been an axe man ever since.

Mods are your friend.

After 50 hours without mods I was bored to hell of Skyrim. As soon as I loaded up some mods to the way two-handed swords work, the game instantly became fun again for another 120 hours. I can't bring myself to play it for a while now, but I have found some pretty nice mods where people have ported over weapons and armour from The Witcher 2; they work great and aren't ridiculously bulky like the vanilla Skyrim two-handers.

Lol most two handed longswords weren't very heavy at all, maxing out at around 8lbs for a greatsword. The only thing that could conceivably be cumbersome about them is the length if you were using a long blade. The whole heavy and slow greatsword thing is a myth, and implemented for balancing rather than realism.

So yes, unless your friends are all children or polio sufferers, you know plenty of people who could run with a greatsword in one hand.

I originally wanted to use sword and shield, but the game kept giving me two handed weapons better than my others and I found I liked it. I did try one handed later and that was fun too, but I'll stick with my two handed swords. I like them better than axes. Haven't tried warhammers.

I carry two. One is my maximum damage version and one is my soul trap version.
