The redguards voice.

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 10:15 pm

Thanks for agreeing. Still It was just a small thing though. I am pretty sure if the next game is in Hamerfell the redguards will have Arabian/native African accent.

If the next game is Hammerfell I'm certainly not buying it. We already had Redguard (tes legend). It's time for another zone. Well... not that I'd buy it anyways this time around after the stunt they pulled with Skyrim.>.>

I think we all could agree to this: Having Samuel L Jackson voice acting the red-guards would be beep-ing awesome!

I know but demanding a black person to do a black character voice in a fantasy game is beyond me since is a FANTASY game.

That's like putting a race with Asian characteristics and using a Caribbean voice, would it be weird? yes but that's the point, in that universe there is no Asian people nor Caribbean, that race mix those characteristics to create a character in a fake universe.

Not trying to go against your point just saying that the point of fantasy games is that, fantasy; otherwise we better start putting real races in the game.
I understand it's fantasy but what's the point of having a specific race being inspired by a culture back on Earth yet they are not quite like that culture? They might as well get rid of that influence..

Well the point is fantasy.

Mixing races to create a fake race in a fake universe. I know they are inspired by Black and Arab people yet I don't expect a black/arab voice because is fantasy.

I may be wrong since I haven't played redguard but isn't the game is only set in an island that's part of Hamerfell? If that's true than they can just add the whole province and you can have more room to discover.

Daggerfall is also made up of part of Hammerfell, along with Highrock. That's two times I've seen it lol.

Well considering that the Redguards are one of the newer races in Tamriel, you'd think they'd have something of an accent like the Imperials and Nords do, especially since we meet Redguards that are either traders and warriors from Hammerfell that sound like natives. Then again, the Raga Da in Skyrim are probably Forbearers that chose to abandon the ways of Yokuda for their own joys and have become nothing more than dark-skinned Nords. They're an adventurous people after all.

Nobody can speak a color. It's how and where you're raised.

And anyway this is pointless. Redgaurds are from Nirn, not Earth.

Most Redguards that come from Hammerfell do sound black.

Nazir from Db sounds black.

Only the ones who aren't from another land sound white. (Nazeem)

Why do Khajits not sound like cats? and why do they all speak in third person?

Ofcourse it's not a big deal for me. I'm just want to see other people opinions on this.

Wasn't suggesting it was, just giving my take on it.

Right now in Skyrim families/clans that have lived together in the same region for centuries manage to have parents who speak dike-van-dyke cockney, kids who speak Californian hills, aunts that speak Oscar Wilde "Proper" English all of whom are protected by the neighbors kid who speaks Terminator. This despite their family trees most likely looking like 2x4's.

With all that I don't think finding an "authentic voice" actor for a made up race in a fantasy game is a big deal.

At then end of the day at least there aren't many (if any) Jar-Jar I'm-so-stereotyped-I-[censored]-Bob Marley Bink's running around Skyrim *cough* Arnold *cough*.

To say that Redguards only have darker skin is ignorance. Most of them are modeled after people of African descent. They have the tell-tale hair and facial features, not just darker skin.

I thought we were meant to say that race was just skin colour and not facial or hair features? :bunny:

Well I guess we both have a different opinion. I think human races should have an accent like the culture they are inspired from while non human races have a unique one... that's my view though.

If you want a game to represent the race they are then play a game based in the real world.

A.K.A GTA, Saints Row and other games who take place in planet Earth but here we are talking about Tamriel.

I'm not saying they won't get a black voice but that nobody can't expect that since this game does not take place in our universe.

I don't think it matters whether or not they have stereotypical white voices or stereotypical black voices, or any stereotypical voice for that matter or a mix thereof.

However there should be some consistency and a noticeable difference in the general accent they have from other races, just to add a level of immersion that not everyone sounds the same when they're from different provinces, and as of right now, they currently sound largely the same just not unique enough when compared to others.

Well I don't want all redguards to sound stereotypicaly black. I want them to be voiced by Arab/Native African voice actors. As for the rest of the thread. I guess I would be OK if the redguards had a more variety of voice actors.

As I said in another comment I don't want them to sound African American. I would like them to sound Arabic/ Native African. After all I am aware of how their culture is arabic like.

It's actually quite amusing when you realise the entire race in the game (The Redguards) that is specifically drawn from Arabic culture, style of dress and weaponry, speaks in a normal american accent, but the race of humanoid cat people have Arabic voices...albeit with a feline twist.

The thing is while I guess you're right on the fantasy part. Atleast they could do some compromise. (like some of them have white/ non african accents with good explanation and the rest have some Arab/ African accents.

I know that but the cat people voice oddly fits so it dosen't matter that much to me. Though I wished it was more unique..
