2 - English and Gaelic.
You could also count slang as a form of language too.
Tae, dae, nae, fae/frae, aye, naw, gie's, soaks, ken, wit. - Can't think of any other common lang words just now.

I can't remember exactly why I have that link, but at least it's made itself useful. I've got http://everything2.com/title/Common+Glasgow%252C+Edinburgh+and+Scottish+colloquial+terms+and+words, too.

I did not know that. You Brits have codified just about everything else... ! I'd have thought given that; and that, you know, it's the birthplace of our current-day lingua franca; and that we still look to it for what's "right" with regard to English, that it would have it's official-ness emblazoned or neon-signed somewhere. How strange!

But you still insist on spelling "colour" wrong. FOR SHAME!

I'm learning stuff :P
"[censored] bandit" - I laughed at that one :lmao:
Half of them though are spelt terribly, like "bawherr", it's bawhair. I'm actually having a laugh reading some of these words I use regularly :P

And calling trousers pants. :P

Guys... ? I believe America and England have one official language, and that official language is English...

But if someone used their first language only, people tend to get pissed. Like most illegal mexicans, they would be less of a problem if they assimilate better.

This is the only thing that annoys me about foreigners here, come over, live in the country for a while, shouts down the phone fully in some middle-eastern language. It wouldn't be so bad if they weren't literally shouting at the phone.

And calling trousers pants.
They are called PANTS. Southerners would have us believe that usage is American. It's not, it's English, and the Americans retained the old way of saying it. Like the vowel sounds imported from France, they were popularised by the new middle classes. The older noble families continued using the same vowel sounds as in the north for quite a while.

(You can still see it today, how you must call the Queen "mam" and not "Marrrrm".

Who knows, it's all the same up north - row upon row of terraced houses, coal mines, etc.

I hate to use stereo types, but when I went up North to visit some friends, it was just how I imagined it. I literally got out my car outside my Friend's house in Manchester (red brick terrace lol) and a stacked skin head, with a pitbull on a choke collar walked straight past me.

The place I lived in South Shields until I was three was just like that: red-brick pitman's "cottages" with no garden, row upon row of the things with cobbled back lanes that'd break your ankles if you lost your footing. The parks were nice but I always thought that the residential areas were pretty grim. We moved to Jarrow after that which was clearly upper-class luxury! Open fields, gardens, central heating and--get this!--indoor toilets.

To be honest, though, you can find nice areas and less salubrious ones pretty much anywhere. One of the oddest that I've seen (or rather the most incongruous) was a bunch of really pretty nasty council houses nestled in what was otherwise lovely north Essix countryside that generally speaking was quite a well-to-do area. I guess grottiness can exist anywhere.

They're around in some places, but they aren't a common sight in chippies.
Nor are they nice from what I've heard. Like sugar and cheese, two good things don't make a super good thing.
Are they deep fried into submission with the wrapper on or off?
Newcastle? Liverpool?
Street name?

I want to know what do British eat? Tea and biscuit all the way? We have dishes of rice and noodles with all junks on top, what are your regular meals like?

Usually meals from other countries because their food tastes better.

Allthough I cook sometimes and just make something and hope it turns out ok, ranging from bland food, too inedible.
Almost always use rice or pasta.

Lots of meat, lots of potatoes. When I went to HK, I was sick to death of noodles, rice and prawns by the end of the week. Seems like you guys never eat bread or potatoes.

Lancashire Hot Pot!

Which my grandmother maintains is just meat, potato and onion put in a pot and cooked for several hours. Carrots being too bourgeois for her.

Also Cornish pasties, served with Cheddar cheese and Branston pickle.

Ah, I looove prawns.

What would be the point of them eating bread or potatoes? They already have an abundant source of starch/carbs right there.

I ate real food. My Uncle's lived there for 20 years. I ate street food, the works, nothing touristy. I had some really good food, I was just tired of it because I'm not used to it. I didn't see many potatoes or bread anywhere there and I went all over. Is it normal to eat that daily for you?

I had tons of fish and seafood, sushi at the airport was good. I had Thai satay chicken on the beach which was awesome.

Still where is it? We get potatos from supermarkets, and breads from supermarkets and bakeries. Cooked potatos however depends on what food you named. we should have plenty potato with chicken at most restaurants.

I can't remember exactly where I ate, I am terrible at remembering chinese names. My uncle lives close to the chinese border (shen zen?) I stayed with him there. I ate at the night market a couple of times, sitting on this little red stools and watching the street is awesome. He has a house keeper and she did really good fish and stir frys a few nights. I had crab and sea urchin roe. I didn't like that. I had a really nice thai curry one night too...

EDIT: @TinyHowie. My favourite part of the trip was when I went up and saw the giant buddah. For those that don't know, here are some pics. :)
