"On a negative, they mention that there is no co-op mode, and that this game should have it." http://feedyourconsole.com/2011/11/review-elder-scrolls-skyrim/

Idiots.

HERESY! BURN THE HERETIC :flamethrower:

TES has always been single player. your own world your own character your own experience. i'm sorry but MMOs have nearly ruined the RPG genre and the EVERYTHING MULTIPLAYER needs to stop. seriously. it would be like release halo without multiplayer functionality.

Oh yeah and a co-op mode or online feature would totally ruin the single player experience

90% of the time, the reviewer in question is an idiot, and probably more suited to a console shooter than a deep single-player RPG. Pay them no mind, I stopped reading reviews many years ago.

However, this reviewer is at least positive for the most part, something which is fairly unusual these days. Still, I suspect that co-op would not be easy to integrate into a game this size.

It would be a great deal of fun for many people to be able to travel through the world with a friend by their side.

There's nothing wrong with having a co-op mode in Skyrim, though I don't think anybody in their right mind actually would expect them to do it, I think Bethesda is just leaving it up to the modding community to do it for them.

What's the problem with the review? It looks like you got trolled hard by this guy.

He didn't say that it should have Co-op, just that he likes co-op play in his games.

Heck, the very first RPGs were built entirely around co-op play.

Co op or online feature would completely ruin TES.

You dont need it, if you want to play an online game go elsewhere.

Yes! Online is important to me and I would love to see co-op in a game f this magnitude- No it’s not a deal breaker. Yes those are my views and opinions – No it doesn’t make my opinion right. Yes I see your side – No it doesn’t make your opinion right. No I won’t be changing my original score.
He said is his opinion so ....

Anyway a coop mode sould be fantastic to go around in the world togwether with a friend ....

How would a non mandatory co-op mode ruin the game? I am not saying that TES needs it but there needs to be a better reason for fans to completely shoot down the idea. If it become like a lot of the games today where it just feels like they did the lease needed work for the single player then yeah but I doubt that would be the case for any co-op game.

you will need to back that up with proof...

eg: are there any bethesda adverts on the site ?

"We get a good review or you will get review copies with a slight delay ... if we don't forget to send you one, by accident of course." works as well. ;)

It's an open secret, really. Most big publisher's reviews are rushed and overrated, and the reviewing sites and magazines have good financial reasons to do so. As a consequence, I wouldn't pay attention to any review with gives out 90% or more to any game which just came out. After two or three patches and an expansion - maybe. But on release date? No way in hell.

Though a co-op mode isn't something I particularly want I'd have no problem if they put it in the game. More gameplay options is usually not a bad thing as long as it doesn't make the single player experience suffer.

If you're really against co-op play then guess what? You don't have to use it. I'm sure there are many people out there that would love the idea of exploring the lands of Skyrim with a friend.

Because it will be one step closer towards turning TES into an MMO and basing the gameplay around co op and group play, which the majority of TES fans do not want.

You have this forum right here to discuss the game, and there are more than enough games that already cater to co op / multiplayer fans.

If you want a co op / single player game, Diablo III would be more suited to you. TES is far too much better as a single player only game, I would hate to see Bethesda bend over backwards to the online play fans and add any kind of co op or multiplayer to this series.

It really would be. Give people the option to lock out the coop if they want to totally ignore it but for those of us who's like to invite friends it would be amazing. Oblivion always felt like there are should have been other real players in it.

This is surprising to you? Game reviews are never any good anymore. Anything under about an 8/10 is considered bad, which makes no sense at all. 8/10 is average? What.

Most reviewers are paid off by developers, and are written by half-wits writing for the pleasure of a really devoted fan playerbase most of the time, who will not tolerate anything other than high praise for their beloved title. Any review I ever see that gives a game 10/10 (or even stupider - this actually happens - 11/10) I instantly ignore. Nothing is perfect. 4,5,6 should be commonplace, and 8 a rarity.

Don't ever bother reading reviews. They're entirely useless.

EDIT: To those of you on the side of multiplayer - sure, if it were free and easy it'd be nice to have the option. People who didn't want it (myself included) could just not use it. Problem is, it takes a huge amount of dev time to get multiplayer code working right, especially for a game like TES. If it were to have multiplayer, the game would really have to be built around that to make it work properly.
I don't want that. I want them to cram as much content into my experience as possible, not faff about with engine coding for multiplayer for ages, and I hope you don't want that either.
Bethesda take their development right down to the wire, working hard right up until the deadline. None of it's really cuttable, without detracting from the experience. For this reason, I really do not care if they never, ever put multiplayer in. That's not what TES is about, you can play an MMORPG or something like Borderlands if you want that kind of game.

so very very sage...true...and woefully overlooked by most "younger" gamers ;)

time the rose tinted glasses were removed from games reviewing, especially as the very first problem with it is that the reviewer might not even like the genre hes reviewing.

i read 3 or 4 user reviews and usually get a good idea from all 4.

They shouldn't expect it.

It'd be like complaining that Fallout doesn't have multiplayer.
