This game is an insult to common intelligence.

It's been a long time since I've been so cripplingly disappointed with a game. Todd Howard should be ashamed of himself. From the unique, handcrafted master art that was Morrowind, released nearly 10 years ago, to this? To a piece of saturday night entertainment that panders to the lowest common denominator and BLEEDS mind-numbing repetition and lazy design? I've stepped in puddles deeper than this game.

All that with and the irony of a "Play however you want!" slogan slapped on the top. Well, I would, but you're not letting me. Because the game isn't designed to give me a deep, personal experience. The game is designed to impress teenagers with spectacle and explosions and dragons (ooh!) and rob them of their parent's money. And the saddest thing? It's working. So all you connoisseurs of high class gaming? (a title which has been twisted into a false insult by idiots who respect idiocy) You're getting more of the same. Because it sells, and only because it sells. There is no artistic integrity in this game. Not a shred of it. I refuse to believe that, in the 10 years since Morrowind, the Bethesda developers have lost so much common sense and become so infantile to put this on a par with that great game.

Three stats? No classes? No major and minor skills? No birth signs? No weapon deterioration? No crossbows, spears, throwing weapons? No spell making? No potion naming? Where did the medium armour skill go? Where did the unarmed skill go? Where did the unarmoured skill go? What about acrobatics? What about athletics? What about mysticism? Why do I feel tired and uncompelled to search through any of these crates, barrels and bags? Maybe it's the 10 gold and potatoes that I know I'm going to find.

Absurd game. I'm half expecting to check the calendar and realise that it's April 1st. Bethesda hit the promised land of RPGs with Morrowind and ever since then they've been scrambling around trying to figure out what made that game great -- and missing every time.

Please don't make a sequel.

Thanks.

Morrowind had its flaws too, the weird robotic combat and the walking that cannot be described unless you offend a certain part of society.

There's also no need for so many different skills.

TL;DR.

In short, you need to go back to Morrowind. Go on then, that's clearly the game for you.

"high class gaming"

I lol'ed.

When are gamers going to grow the hell up and stop bantering. They got rid of skills and perks etc what does that have to do with "artistic integrity". Do you even know what the word means? Skyrim is an artistic masterpiece.

They took out the acrobatics skill and other things for their own reasons. This game is still very very custom tailor to the player. The races (of course) the skills each with their own tree (there's a ton of different perks to chose from), different armor/weapons (one hand + shield, one hand + magic, 2 hand, dual wield). The spear was not included because it was likely too difficult and time consuming to program. It was a lot easier to add all these glossy features (that really don't impact the game at all on a grand scale) when games were simplistic and the graphics were basic. You clearly have never tried programming or game design.

I hate to say it, but you are what's wrong with society. Hate/intolerance. Stop spreading it.

But seriously, "high class gaming"? Video games are ENTERTAINMENT, not a 100 year old cognac. They're about fun and guess what, Skyrim is FUN to most of us (minus the bugs//UI issues some are having). I don't mean to be blunt, but the title "video game connoisseur" should be renamed to "pathetic loser".

Don't even bother reading this crap, guys. Just another "Joined Today"-er who wants to troll.

I mean really, at least use your brain, OP, if you want to rile people up.

yes there is need for so many different skills, and skyrim is perfect example of why they are needed.

I for one am enjoying it. The game just came out. Don't like it? Tough crap. Go back to Morrowind you damn Dunmer! BTW there ARE birthsigns. You just have to find the stones and activate them is all. They do different things. I'm looking for The Steed stone. Anyone seen it?

This. This is what you're pandering to, Bethesda. People so inept - so intellectually bereft - that they only possess enough brain power to sputter out the latest meme or catchphrase.

hmm, sounds like someone didn't research the game before he bought  it's been known for months that it wasnt going to be Morrowind 2.0.

So far I'm liking Skyrim so much more then Morrowind's convuluted mess, but that's imo.

What planet are you from?

In terms of sophistication in story, design, art direction, environments, character advancement, level design, and the "In another world" immersion/verisimilitude factor, Skyrim blows Morrowind miles out of the water. There are only three pitfalls I've come across: The non-console UI, Female Khajiit character model, and a serious loss in melee mobility.

- The only game in wich weapon deteriorating felt like anything but a damn chore was FarCry2, and that only lasted for 5min.
- I agree on the spears, unarmed, unarmored and spell making
- Dont care about potion naming or the medium armor skill
- Acrobatics and athletics were horrible skills. The first thing I did in Morrowind was watch a movie while jumping up and down. Now thats great design!! -.-
- There were exiting things in crates and bags in Morrowind?
