Let's admit that there's no proof in the coding for spears, and no proof in the trailer. Is it possible that they are still in the game? yes, but it seems like something they would want to show off.
Also, if they don't do it right (Having multiple materials) I'd rather them not do it at all...
Honestly, I think they were trying to show off the Rieklings more than anything. I don't think it's in their intentions to flaunt nonplayable spears in our faces or something. They're probably hard at work trying to figure out how to make them playable and fun as we speak. They're always working on something.
I will laugh when you are irrevocably proven completely and unquestionably wrong when the DLC is released.
Dec/04 will be the day that you will learn to taste the blissful fruit of being proven wrong Mardoxx. You may even like it.
What will you do if you're wrong? Now I don't think it's a definite no on playable spears yet in Dragonborn, I just don't think it's likely at this point in time. Playable spears for Dragonborn would likely mean that they recycle assets from vanilla weapons when used by the player, unlike crossbows which use unique assets. I'm not sure if Bethesda would do playable spears in that manner.
I can see the rage on the forum, when people realise that all those spears can't be equiped. It will be hilarious. But I would like spears very much, but I didn't see them in the trailer. Didn't see them in the new pictures. It's not like with dawnguard and crossbows where bethesda waved them infront of us all the time -&--#62; "Looooooooook! We are giving you crossbows! We are listening to you! Love us, please!"
I predicted the same thing with Hearthfire where people were hoping for new child races and new marriage options for races like Khajiit and Bosmer. Instead, it was all just Nords, Nords, and even more Nords, with a single new marriage option for Redguards (which was just another female Redguard using vanilla assets) and some Imperial and possibly Breton stuff. Pretty much every other race was screwed over.
Not that I have anything against Nords, but I just feel that they might be a tad overemphasized in Hearthfire in that you feel like you're not getting the full experience of Skyrim unless you're playing as a Nord. That's my main and really only major issue with Hearthfire. Other than that, it looks like a pretty cool little expansion.
