Throwing spears confirmed (maybe)

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 2:10 pm

Not actually true, spears can be one handed two with out being pikes. Pikes were a type of spear with a specific design and extreme length(10ft-25ft). But being a two-handed spear doesn't make one a pike.

totally this ^

Welcome to 2 weeks ago.

Playable spears aren't in. There's no equip data for them in the executable.

dude, its not like they can't add the files in the actual DLC or anything...

stop spreading theory as fact.

I think we'd probably get to throw them. I can't for the life of me understand why beth would include throwing spears for enemies and not the players, so we probably should get it.

they wouldn't, they should and probably do know that to troll their fanbase like this on purpose would have serious repercussions

Indeed it would. From what i've seen over the past few days, you and I are more then passionate about our spears. If we don't get them... we might cry lol.

that would be an understatement, each riekling will burn in a pit of unholy fire and swords, then I shall slowly destroy the island.

this is an amazing observation i completely skipped over this. dawnguard already introduced crossbows so this path of back to morrowind mechanics makes me happy. now we just need separate pauldrons/gloves and then we get to mismatch again!

I would LOVE to see guards with spears, especially if they bring back some of the house's royal guard or something, and hold the spear upright :P

Another thing. In the single animation files, there are no references to sneak stances with spears.
Compare that with crossbows.

lol, you are determined, i'll give you that, im surprised you haven't gone to bethesda personally to demand that the player won't be able to use spears.

Let's admit that there's no proof in the coding for spears, and no proof in the trailer. Is it possible that they are still in the game? yes, but it seems like something they would want to show off.

Also, if they don't do it right (Having multiple materials) I'd rather them not do it at all...

but like many things, they might prefer to hint at it. IE hiding them in the trailer. if they weren't being put in as player usable they wouldn't be in the trailer for this very reason, too many people get their hopes up and BGS knows it.

I can see the rage on the forum, when people realise that all those spears can't be equiped. It will be hilarious.

But I would like spears very much, but I didn't see them in the trailer. Didn't see them in the new pictures. It's not like with dawnguard and crossbows where bethesda waved them infront of us all the time -> "Looooooooook! We are giving you crossbows! We are listening to you! Love us, please!"

I honestly think their Riekling exclusive, but I'd love to be wrong.

But like I said before, I'd rather them not be in at all if they're not done right...

They showed the rieklings wielding them, but i know (for those of you who are going to correct me) that we might not be able to wield them but we might and there was animations for spear attacks, and Mardoxx im pretty sure you were the guy who discovered em.

Like I said before, I'm convinced they're only available for Rieklings. Watch the one that throws a spear in the trailer. He has a magically reappearing spear that appears on his back.

No one's saying spears definitely won't be in the dlc. But the truth of the matter is that at the moment there is more evidence for them not to be included. Being an optimist, or a pessimist won't change reality.

Same thing happened to the player in fallout whenever you threw a spear.

Nothing to say they are player spear attack animations, npcs also need spear animations.....

I mean of course they could be player ones, but there seems to be more pointing towards them being npc ones.

Honestly, I think they were trying to show off the Rieklings more than anything. I don't think it's in their intentions to flaunt nonplayable spears in our faces or something. They're probably hard at work trying to figure out how to make them playable and fun as we speak. They're always working on something.

I will laugh when you are irrevocably proven completely and unquestionably wrong when the DLC is released.

Dec/04 will be the day that you will learn to taste the blissful fruit of being proven wrong Mardoxx. You may even like it.
What will you do if you're wrong? Now I don't think it's a definite no on playable spears yet in Dragonborn, I just don't think it's likely at this point in time. Playable spears for Dragonborn would likely mean that they recycle assets from vanilla weapons when used by the player, unlike crossbows which use unique assets. I'm not sure if Bethesda would do playable spears in that manner.

I can see the rage on the forum, when people realise that all those spears can't be equiped. It will be hilarious. But I would like spears very much, but I didn't see them in the trailer. Didn't see them in the new pictures. It's not like with dawnguard and crossbows where bethesda waved them infront of us all the time -&--#62; "Looooooooook! We are giving you crossbows! I predicted the same thing with Hearthfire where people were hoping for new child races and new marriage options for races like Khajiit and Bosmer. Instead, it was all just Nords, Nords, and even more Nords, with a single new marriage option for Redguards (which was just another female Redguard using vanilla assets) and some Imperial and possibly Breton stuff. Pretty much every other race was screwed over.

Not that I have anything against Nords, but I just feel that they might be a tad overemphasized in Hearthfire in that you feel like you're not getting the full experience of Skyrim unless you're playing as a Nord. That's my main and really only major issue with Hearthfire. Other than that, it looks like a pretty cool little expansion.
