Too much make-up?

Post » Mon Nov 28, 2011 6:56 pm

Seems like every female in skyrim has loads of makeup on, yet walks around in rugged, dirty clothing. That.. doesn't make any sense to me. ANY woman would rather buy a good weapon to protect herself or even better clothing or armour rather than makeup.. at least in skyrim. of course I'm just assuming makeup exists in the tes universe and the usage of it is widespread in skyrim.

Please don't start with the whole "DURRRR DURRRRRRR IT'S A FANTASY GAME!" load of [censored]. ever heard of suspension of disbelief?

It's a fantasy game, it doesn't have to be realistic.

I think it makes the women look pretty :twirl:

I will agree with you on the point that the females of Skyrim do seem to keep up their appearance somewhat given two of some of the screenshots I have seen. It doesn't seem as bad as is the case with some of the pre-made NPC for customization, but it is a bit heavy for my taste.

I do not agree, from all the screenshots of the women they don't seem like they're aren't caked in make-up. Also why shouldn't women even try to look pretty? to me it seems a very sixist point of view :P

who says they don't make their own make up?

To a lot of women make-up is a good weapon and to some its all they need ;) .......still your right I'd rather have a dagger :D
I play as a Khajiit normally so don't have to worry about make up, tends to look funny on a cat

We've only seen a handful of decent screenshots of female characters and the women in those didn't look heavily made-up, at least compared to women in Cardiff on a Saturday night. Not every women in Skyrim is going to prefer a new sword to some lippy. The average barmaid or shopkeeper probably wouldn't and warriors of either six are going to be a small segment of the population even in Skyrim even during a civil war.

Yeah, doesn't seem very realistic, unless they made make-up dynamic so that it bled down their faces when they were working/fighting/swimming etc. and then they'd have to reapply it, and then Skyrim would turn into some sort of barbie make up game... hmm.

TES did a game with no make up, it was called Oblivion and yuck. I'll take a trashy bar wench over a homely chick anyday of the week. anyways it's not far fetched seeing how:
The first archaeological evidence of cosmetics usage was found in Egypt around 3500 BC during the Old Kingdom. The Ancient Greeks and Romans also used cosmetics.[5][6] The Romans and Ancient Egyptians used cosmetics containing poisonous mercury and often lead. The ancient kingdom of Israel was influenced by cosmetics as recorded in the Old Testament—2 Kings 9:30 where Jezebel painted her eyelids—approximately 840 BC. The Biblical book of Esther describes various beauty treatments as well.

All of the screenshots I have seen of female characters show very attractive women and they do not have much make up on. So, I disagree with the OP that they wear to much make-up.

The ladies always wear make-up for planned screenshots.
But once you'll be able to play the game, try to sneak inside their bedroom when they wake up to see their true faces. ;)

I don't see why they wouldn't, living in a town seems like a very stable life, its not as if Skyrim has an incredibly high crime rate. And defending yourself against monsters, again, I don't think the towns fight off hordes of undead. '

If this were fallout your comments would be acceptable, but this is not, they live stable lives in well established communities.

I meant to say "Too much make-up?"

Well then why don't you make a rugged ugly character?

I agree that I do like seeing ugly characters. Take a look at The Witcher 2 in particular for some examples of peasants that actually look like damn peasants. Geralt himself is also a grizzle beast due to his profession, and I would rather have a game full of these filthy creatures than everyone having absolutely perfect complexion. The early screenshots (especially the orc) gave me hope, so don't mess it up by having everyone pretty!

Maybe it isn't make-up. It's some sort of in-game sixual dimorphism. Females have colorful lips and staining around their eyes! I'm not quite sure how that would fit into humanoid evolution; I mean, Argonian males in Skyrim and past games are more colorful than females, but that's harkening back to actual real life birds/lizards with males being the courtshippier ones. Kind of like how female busts evolved.

OR SOMETHING

I don't know. handwaves are dumb like that.

I personally prefer my iron clad, Orc hottie with some nice dark eye shadow and eye liner......I just need to get her some insurance for chipped tooth of hers in the front.
