F.N.V A true Rpg?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 6:17 am

So by your logic san andreas a game where you shoot people in the head because there is a turf war going on is in the same category as a game where you save the world from sephiroth, bravo you have bended logic

let me rephrase GTA SA had skills you could level up, no it was not an rpg it was a sandbox action game. Your logic is flawed as well, your saying that a game about gang wars would not be an rpg because its not like JRPG. If GTA SA was an RPG you would still be fighting in gangwars, not saving the world from seph.

Define linear.

linear as in FPS linear, or any other action game with levels etc. For example ME1 wasnt as open world as F3 or the ES series, but you could choose to do thing in the order you wanted, you could explore, and do things on your time.IMO of course

edit: honestly im not here to define what an RPG is, just that ME1 was/is an RpG. Do I prefer bethesda RPGS over all other games? Yes.

then by your account ME1 is an RPG, it commits you to your choices, nolf2, idk what that is, but did you level up, was it non linear, did stats dictate everything?
Funny... The more I think about it... the closer Nolf 2 seems to seem like an RPG

In a weird way, Nolf 2 is what you might get if you crossed Fallout 3 with Halflife 1. (anyone agree?)

I just looked up nolf, without playing it i cant say whether its an rpg but it does seem like it may have some rpg elements. kind of like a more linear Alpha Protocal.

Its foremost a 60's super-spy First Person Shooter. It has skills and reasonable NPC reactions... But I don't remember it having any dialog choices, just cutscenes and mission briefings. ~great game.

Just looked up some gameplay footage.
Looks really bad.

What do you mean by Morality system?
Good and bad choices or a more complex reaction system?

Well the only way to truly know if a game is good or not is to actually play it yourself.
But it just looks generic to it's genré.
I've played game like that before and I'm kinda tired of them. :)

Fallout is not a MMORPG (yet...) and thus at some point the game will stop. I think that expecting the world to change as a result of you actions and for you to continue playing is a bit too much of a task for most games to be worth it. Now if Fallout was like a mmo where you pay subscription fees every month and got new content (think dlc but bigger and better) it is not too much of a burden . Anyways i went completely away from my original thought.

Maybe one day there will be a Fallout MMORPG. Legal issues have to be sorted out. New Vegas will end people don't worry it's not that bad. Play the originals and see how awesome the multiple endings are. See how awesome it is to have the questions about what happened to the people and places answered. It's alot better then years of endless speculation of what the next game will be like.

Mass Effect is an action role-playing game developed by BioWare for the Xbox 360 and then ported to Microsoft Windows by Demiurge Studios.

If it is classified as any kind of RPG, it is an RPG, regardless if you wan't it to be or not.

I dunno, I can agree ME1 being an RPG of sorts, but ME2 is not no matter what the wiki says (it is an action adventure with lite-lite RPG elements). Anyways, when did this thread turn to "give ME a genre" -thread?

agreed. I hadnt been that dissapointed in a game (ME2) since Mercenaries 2, or mabye even Xenosaga. Oh and the ME topic came up after TCs first post, I replied that the DLC didnt give it RPG status, it was an RPG the whole time and if he wanted to see a game that really is not an RPG look no farther then ME2. Then someone brought up that neither ME was an RPG. So I had to step in and voice my opinion.

What's with the "true RPG" mentality? You play a role in every single game in existence, including Call of Duty.

Okay so to explain myself a little.

True RPG.
RPG elements.
JRPG.

JRPG are stuff like Final Fantasy which I honestly have no idea why they even call RPG's at all.
RPG elements are games that play with as a certain genré but also include certain elements from RPG's.
And True RPG's are games that actually let you take on different roles and not just "good/evil".

Mass Effect 1 and 2 are action games with RPG elements.
Therefor not True RPG's IMO.

So yes, technically they are RPG's.
Emphasis on technically.

[This is all based on my opinions and are in no way actual facts, but I will never say that Mass Effect 1 or 2 are RPG games no matter how many facts you draw from searching the internet.]

You can pretend to be mario in Super Mario, or Donkey Kong... but games that take no notice, or offer no option to adjust the player characters are not really RPG's in the opinion of most RPG'ers.

You dont need to search anything on the net, just play it. If you play it you will see its an RPG. The way you [censored] on the game i doubt you ever even played it, or your just getting the watered down sequal confused with the superior first game.

Maybe you guys should just stop the whole ME conversation. Gabriel doesn't consider it an RPG, no need to take offense at that, it's just his opinion.

Well my opinion too....but it's still just an opinion.

If alot of people really want to continue playing after the end, then I guess Obsidian could create a DLC that lets you play as ANOTHER of the characters/companions after all that has happened, and your choices affect what happens to the entire wasteland afterwards, it would be like a mini sandbox sequel.
