Todd said numerous times that dlc in general will be more like expansions and that dawnguard will "feel like an expansion"
this guy is a clown they excatly know what they are doing by sellling a canon ending DLC with no choice at all. Go get me that, search this, dovahkin help me my guitar felt down a cave plenty of bears, a troll stole my shoe,... enough of this come on an expansion has to bring something new but whatever in our days studios have big money and they just screwed. Back in time studios had no money and rocked everything (im exagerating a BIT) cause they were free and not led by guys who only know the money theyll make.
I think bethesda guys arent the problem, its the guys who dont know anything to video games and lead the company the big problem. Here todd take this candy and good bye.

I think Hearth fire will be a mini add-on that will come out between Dawnguard and the next expansion. Sometime around the holidays for hearth fire, and in the spring the next major expansion will come out. In between those times though Fallout 4 and other games will probably come out.

Do we even know that Hearthfire is a dlc? It's a month in the Elder Scrolls universe. I figured they trademarked it for the same reasons they trademarked Dovakhiin and the like

People expect different things from DLC. Some want more of the old while others want a departure. Dawnguard has plenty of neat stuff, but it falls in the same vein of the core game.

For me and many others, that is more than enough. The rest of the folks simply wanted a different experience but didn't get it. I wouldn't say that there's anyone to blame for that; Bethesda made a good product, just not one that appeals to everyone. And I think that's okay.
and I think there is a balance to be had here. IMO where they went wrong with the vanilla skyrim was dumbing it down to attract new players.

I think the Kotaku guy / gal was expecting more new things like with Shivering Isles

This. The kotaku reviewer is an idiot in that respect, they compared the size of areas added, that's IT. It was overwhelmingly apparent to anyone paying an iota of attention and not overhyping themselves that this WOULDN'T be an SI style thing. So he didn't like it because he mislead himself before release. What a fantastic reviewer.

So far I have not even gotten into the DG quests. Werewolves are too fun to put down right now. Finally viable.

"[Dawnguard] will feel like an expansion" - Bethesda
Marketing message. While DG is bigger both in content and size than KoTN, I don't think it can rivals with Tribunal, Bloodmoon or Shivering Isles.

I hope the next 'DLC' will add a lot more.

I think you're taking this a bit too seriously. I was just linking it in case anyone was interested. Just for fun, and just so we could discuss it. If you only trust "player reviews". Read mine (it's in my signature). People seem to like it.

Yeah. My mother is a marketing manager. Companies know exactly what they're doing when they say things like that. Maybe it's our fault for being fooled, but they were trying to fool us. An expansion = bloodmoon, tribunal, Shivering Isles. This was a dlc questline and faction. A full faction and questline by skyrim's standards (wit an HQ, radiants etc) but not by any means an expansion.

I wouldn't really listen to Kotaku, the reviewer sounded like they were trying to review Dawnguard as a separate game then a DLC.

Actually I would say Dawnguard rivals with Tribunal if not beats it, if you actually remember tribunal then you'd remember how quick it was to beat and how the writing was a bit meh and Bloodmoon's main story wasn't exactly that great either, not to mention if you beat the MQ and the EEC quests then you start to realize how dull and boring the island really is.

Radiant quests = quests.

Honestly if you weren't expecting radiant quests when he said that then you're kinda stupid, no offense.

Fittingly, I recall that the same day Tribunal was released people complained that they had beaten it already. I remember KoTN, and I will say that Dawnguard had far more content added than the former. Also, someone mentioned that Bethesda compared Dawnguard to Shivering Isles, has this actually been claimed? While I significantly enjoyed Dawnguard, I hope this isn't considered the "Shivering Isles" of Skyrim's DLC packs.

Funny thing is SI was considered good because it tore down the generic feeling of Oblivion and was pretty much one of the few reasons to get it because of the change of bland dungeons, but once you got to it SI still had a lot of bland and boring dungeons and the amount of quests were smaller then Tribunal's. SI is probably the most overhyped DLC because everyone forgets everything else due to Sheogorath, one of the most beloved Daedra Lords in the TES series, in truth SI wasn't really that great.

Well they said dawnguard was supposed to be an expansion, so if this is what they call "expansion" nowadays then this may be what we have to expect. Also, you're right that some people complained tribunal wasn't really an expansion, but if that's the case then why would bethesda want to repeat the same mistake with dawnguard?
