How is Borderlands? I've always thought about getting it but was on the fence about it.

Great game if you FPS's with slight roleplaying elements. Oh an there's literally 15 million guns.

You mean a million slight variations of each of the 15 guns.

I personally didn't enjoy Borderlands, it's better with friends but still very repetitive.

Is Dead Island any good?

The core gameplay mechanics are fine, but the game suffers in the story, level design, and quest design aspects. The sewer levels towards the end of the game are subpar, and the game dumps it's resort aesthetic to plop the player into a banana republic slum part way through the game. There's also a good number of uninteresting fetch quests, and the escort quests, when they do appear, rank as some of the worst escort quests of 2011. The "dungeons" in the game also get less interesting as the game goes on.

I didn't like that Dead Island needed you to repair your weapons. It really gets in the way of zombie bashing when I have to worry constantly about my weapon condition.

Yeah, I always thought it was disingenuous of them to claim that there were anywhere near that many guns. There are maybe twenty five guns in the game, there are just a lot of variations.

Though that said, I really like Borderlands. I've heard it said that the MP is the highlight of the game, but I disagree. I enjoyed the heck out of it in SP, was iffy about the MP play. Maybe if you have real-life friends to play it with, and a mic. Playing Borderlands with random strangers isn't that fun.

To elaborate on why I like Borderlands - it's very stable, the rotoscoped style is very nice, and the combat is exciting. I also like its wacky sense of humour - it doesn't take itself too seriously, so despite its bleak (and not hugely original) setting Pandora feels like a fun place. It's kind of boring for the first five levels, but it gets a lot better once you get skills to define your character.

...

Also, does anyone here play DotA 2? I played DotA back when it was a WC3 map, stopped at around the time 'denying' became a thing. I'm not that willing to put in the hours of practice required, but I do admire the elegance of the game, so I'm definitely up for spectating some matches. My question is, is it comprehensible to non-players/players of the first one?

Sounds like I'd like it. I'll definitely play it before number 2 comes out to see.

The first ZoE is a decent experimental title, but it's over much too quickly. The second is better in every single way and is positively awesome. No other game can simulate a flying mech game better than this series.

Sort of like Armored Core in the controls and customization?

For anyone whoes interested in Dead or Alive 5 I'll say its a perfect fighting game, the controls are great, the combat is fluid, the difficulty is well balanced and the graphics awesome too. If anyone loves DoA get this game I give it 5/5. The only con I have with it is the online isn't to great but that's only because my internet provider isn't really good so---I really can't judge here. Other then that great game .

Agree with this so much, I don't think it deserves the praise it gets. I think the funny elements seem to make people oblivious to the repetitive stuff.

Well, I guess I wouldn't go that far. There's not really any customization, but it's a lot more fast-paced.

I thought it was pretty good; it has an interesting story, although some of the gameplay mechanics are slightly questionable. At the price it's at now in the Steam store, I'd say it's definitely worth it.

Is "the Ship" worth the price? A couple of my friends have it and I was considering buying it for co-op; is it worth it or should I wait for a sale?

How is Darksiders II? It's currently 50% off on steam and I'm wondering if it is worth it. I played the first one, I liked but it is a little to linear and the combat is a bit too.. slow/heavy, and that is some of the things they claim is in the second one. Worth the 50%?

Dead Island was surprisingly good. While its really great to play with friends its still very fun by yourself. A loot-fest with light RPG elements and a beautiful world worth exploring. The combat can be challenging and rewarding.Story and characters were weak and the it got more linear as you went along but I was still very satisfied with the game.

Has anyone here played either of the ClaDun games?
ClaDun X2 looks particularly interesting...and it's also available for PC on Steam (although the free d/l'able demo of the game seems to be a bit on the graphically glitchy side, especially on integrated graphics chips...and as much as I enjoy customizable role-playing games - ClaDun lets you edit your characters, weapons, equipment, even your dungeon theme music, all within the game itself! - the game's customization system looks VERY daunting to me...almost makes the Creation Kit and Papyrus scripting look easy to do in comparison!)

So, Steam has The Witcher 2 on sale. I have yet to get any satisfactory opinion on this game; specifically, how exactly it compares to the first, which I have played. I'll sometimes get vague "it's better/worse" answers but people will rarely actually say what gameplay factors it does better or worse. So hopefully I can get that impression while the sale is on?
