Unofficial "Is [insert game name here] any good?" Th

Post » Fri Jun 14, 2013 11:32 am

I was thinking about getting Neverwinter Nights, but then I found out it was 3D, and I also heard about some kind of online thing or something, is it any good and/or does it require an internet connection?

And how about Icewind Dale?
I have Icewind Dale 2 but haven't played it yet.

EDIT: And how's the Gothic games?

EDIT 2: And what about Avadon: The Black Fortress? Never mind, I heard about but can't find a copy on Amazon any way.

EDIT 3 (I'm sorry): Are the keyboard controls on the PC version of Silent Hill 3 as bad as people say they are? I can't find an xbox version and I don't want to buy a gamepad right now.

Doesn't the GOTY edition come with a disc that is required to install the DLC content? I think for the past few Bethesda games that was the case.

I have Hydrophobia: Prophecy sitting in my game bank and it's been interesting me for a while. Has anybody here played it?

NWN is an awkward one to try and describe. It seems like people always either love or hate it, but can rarely put to words what exactly is so right/wrong about it. The 3D doesn't really hurt it, and neither does the internet. It's almost more toolset than game; it comes with the program used to create the base campaign, and the internet option is there so that people can play in each other's custom campaigns. However, the official campaign also has this feel to it like it's "just another custom game", albeit an expertly made one. The game is pretty old though, so if you're looking for content you should be able to get something like the Diamond Edition (the expansions are better than the original) for cheap, and have access to years worth of custom games.

There's Baldur's Gate, and then there's Dragon Age and Neverwinter Nights...two games trying to be Baldur's Gate, but which all have a vastly different feel to each other, despite many similarities. If you like the other two, though, odds are you'll appreciate NWN too.

Not sure about Red Alert or KOA, but I'd definitely recommend Far Cry 3. It has issues, but it's got a ton of content, some interesting characters and a great setting.

Red Alert 3 is a solid Command and Conquer game, and a good RTS. It's also probably the silliest of the 3D Command and Conquer games.

Not sure if this has been asked yet, but I'm a bit too lazy to dig through the thread looking.

Can anyone give me a good personal review of the game "Forge"? It's on Steam, a fairly new release as well. It looks great but I don't want to invest $20 in a game that may or may not be good.

NWN is an awesome game. The toolset is so much fun. Multi player is where its at, at least for me. A good server, good people, good world, epic experience. It was like a mini mmo experience.

Spec Ops: The Line is going for $10 on Steam right now, and I'm considering buying it. I've heard some very good things about its story, but I'm really not looking for a generic TPS. Is it worth the $10?

It doesn't do much in the way of the shooting that changes up the TPS genre. Everything works fine and is enjoyable but the highlight of the game is the story and choices.

Not the sort of game you should play if you're looking for innovative gameplay, or if you want to have fun at all. Spec Ops is engaging, but it's also quite depressing (in a good way). I would certainly recommend it solely for the story.

Also, Dark Souls. The game currently has a flash sale, is it worth getting? I'm well aware of the difficulty, but is the game engaging at least?

For sure. I was never a fan of Borderland like yourself but the 4 player co-op in DI is a ton of fun. The game is entertaining enough to play by yourself.

I'm not sure, I found Dead Island to be quite dull in single-player. Co-op was quite good, so long as you play with friends.

Spore's fun, but don't make the mistake in thinking that it's going to be this really deep strategy-simulator, because it's not. It's more like about five different sequential games linked together with some very flexible creation tools. Not a whole lot of depth to be found anywhere, but it can keep you occupied, and the Spacefaring chapter of the game is always fun to screw around in, which is really what it's all about.

I got it had it and it's wonderful. It's a pretty large game with loads of quest and funny moments (some you may to create your own). The Graphic are and the gameplay is great too (you can go around and 'kill" everyone and everything but they do respawn. I would say this is a must buy.

I got a few:

Arma II. (Mostly co-op)
Dawnstar (not the Skyrim city, but the space-sim)
Dungeonland (Paradox is buggy, but is this game?)

How is Natural Selection 2? It seems like a really interesting pick.
I usually just play simulation and strategy, but do like the occasional online deathmatch games like Chivalry, so I can play with my friends. What I'm worried about is if it suffers from BF3 syndrome, as in the game is designed for team-play, but rarely does anyone actually try to work together.

Also, if anyone is interested in Dota 2, I have five free copies that I want as far away from my Steam inventory as possible, PM me if you want one.

Natural Selection 2 has a slight RTS element to it, where one character is the commander of the team who builds structures and directs people where to go (though you still have your own free will of course). So people are more likely to actually cooperate there.

There was an Arma 2 demo,so you can download it and try it.
I played that demo too,but I didn't liked it. Basically I didn't got what was the point of what was happening. I was in a HUGE world like 5-6 times Skyrim, driving a tank, but there where no enemies anywhere, neither some waypoint to show me where to go.
So I've been roaming around aimlessly for like half an hour looking for anything until I got bored and stopped playing and never bothered with it again.

ARMA 2 is mainly a military simulator, not a shooter. From my experience with it, only military buffs would want the game.
