They've got multiple new IPs in development, Versus XIII, an enhanced Vita version of Final Fantasy Type-0, Final Fantasy X HD, a new MMO in addition to Dragon Quest X and Final Fantasy XIV 2.0. They like to keep busy over there.
Wait wut? I didn't hear about that. I'd rather have it for PSP especially since the Vita doesn't seem to be doing all to well right now and would rather have the game on a more, seasoned we'll call it, system.

Edit: They really need to make it easier to post links.

So how exactly is Final Fantasy 12 and 13? I've seen reviews, but I tend not to trust them. As a huge fan of numbers 7-10 (and tactics) do you think I would like them? I did enjoy lost odyssey quite a bit, but that's the last JRPG I've played.

Also, very interested in the HD remake of 10.

12's not bad I like it's battle system, once you set the right commands for your characters and know what you're doing, you can kick even Chuck Noris's rear end lol. 13 is ok but it's not really open until you get to the second half of the game. Most of the time it's walking down a LONG corridor, fighting enemies and going down some more long corridors.
Spoiler
The only character I hate in that game is Hope---he's emo like you wouldn't beleve and even when he finally grows apair---it's too late you already hate him to much to care anymore.

I really liked 12. I can't say what you'd like or not, but 12 was a solid title, in my opinion, with a cool setting and fun gameplay mechanics. 13 was unfortunately pretty bad, in my opinion. It's just too linear and monotonous. Story's nothing special either way.

I'm on the opposite spectrum for my opinions on Final Fantasy XII

The story is really weak and it feels like you're just going from place to place with no real reason. The characters really don't match at all or just plain don't belong (Vaan and Penelo could be completely cut from the story and it would make no difference). The combat system, while somewhat innovative, just felt like it was lacking something satisfying.

Previous titles do a much better job at their storyline and have characters that actually compliment each other (Final Fantasy IX in particular). Final Fantasy XII on the other hand just feels like they threw a bunch of characters together at random.

I loved Final Fantasy X and really liked FF XII. Lost Odyssey was one of my favorite games in a long time in terms of JRPGs and Dragon Age 8 was pretty great.

Final Fantasy 13 was so bad I quit playing it near the end. I didn't even want to finish it...

I have been waiting for Final Fantasy Versus 13 for awhile now. But alas they are determined to starve us of information.

They are making an HD remake of FFX?! Blitzball...nuff said lol

The Vita version is happening anyway, with improved graphics and second anolog support, but rumor is they'll skip over PSP in North America and go straight to Vita. Really chaps my ass because that means I wouldn't be able to get it right away. :meh:

Anywho, Final Fantasy XII was great. Very flexible combat system, character development wasn't too bad (though I strongly preferred having job-specific License Boards like in International Zodiac Job System), level design was great, story and characters were good for the most part. A fantastic Final Fantasy in just about every way.

I liked XIII well enough as a game, but as a Final Fantasy title it was abysmal. The story wasn't bad aside from the fact that in-game dialogue and cutscenes did so little to actually tell it. Characters were mostly forgettable, save for Sazh, Fang and perhaps Hope (annoying at times, yes, but not a terrible character IMO). Linearity was a killer. I'm fine with linear RPGs, but when playing Final Fantasy I want towns, NPCs, dungeons, secrets to uncover, etc. Combat wasn't too bad, but it lacked depth.

So yeah, not a terrible game, but a poor excuse for a Final Fantasy.

Just got Final Fantasy XIII-2. Started the game in "easy mode". Died during the first tutorial battle... :stare: And that is after I recently beat FF XIII, which has the same battle system.

Man the start of 13-2 is so damn confusing. I have no idea what's going on, I mean, I kinda grasp it but it holds like no bearing on FFXIII whatsoever. Then again I only got to chapter 11 and just youtubed the rest haha. Regardless it seems cool so far and Max I played the tutorial on Normal mode and didn't die at all..you did use your heal right?

Yeah, my problem was that the first time around I delayed an extra turn before using the heal and got killed in the meantime. All the boss battles since then have been pretty easy, though, even on normal mode.

Anyway, the game is quite interesting so far. Looks like they took the criticism about linearity to heart. Now the map has a "percentage explored" statistics and you even get dialog choices almost every dialog. Whoever heard of non-trivial dialog choices in FF before? I wonder if they have any effect in the long term.

Well finally got my PS3 (after some issues with Best Buy)

Didn't pick up FFXIII-2 though and won't until Friday. Doesn't matter anyway because I want to play through FFXIII again before playing FFXIII-2.

Luckily I don't have work for the rest of this week so let the FFXIII marathon begin!

So I was looking at the Collectors Editions for FFXIII-2 and it seems the Novella is left out of the North America collectors edition

Is that right?

Yeah, I've got the collectors edition, and no novella in sight. I think it's exclusive to one of the retailers (my novella-less one is from Amazon).

It was supposed to be Best Buy. Amazon was supposed to have the Omega Boss battle and Gamestop was supposed to have the alternative Serah costume

This is very disappointing :(

Edit: Maybe it does come with it? Curse you Best Buy for not listing it!

I looked up unboxings on youtube and people have it from Best Buy so I'm good (I think). Had my scare for the evening :dead:

I'm a little ways into Final Fantasy XIII-2 and I thought I'd post some impressions. These come from someone that enjoyed XIII well enough as a game, but felt it was a fairly poor Final Fantasy (if it matters).

Like
Noel Kreiss - I went in expecting to hate this guy. Not because of his looks, but because trailers pegged him as Snow Jr., an optimistic doofus that's spouting heroic lines every time he gets a bit of screen time. Not really the case, at least not yet. He fills a similar role as Snow, but does so in a less obnoxious manner. Where Mr. Villiers would often resort to a big, stupid speech, most of Noel's reassurance has come in the form of simple, down to earth talks with Serah, the helpless, overgrown baby that she is.

Pokemans - Hardly a substitute for full party members that are integrated into the story, they're actually handled fairly well as a game mechanic. Catching, leveling and feeding them to one another, monster taming is quickly becoming an obsession. It's not fleshed out nearly as much as the Persona games, but the fun in growing/fusing powerful monsters is still there. Naming them and dressing them up is also a guilty pleasure of mine.

My team currently consists of a Hoplite COM (Sir Cang), Gremlin RAV (McQueen) and a Cait Sith MED (Alfred).

Level Design - It's not Skyrim, it doesn't have to be, but it's not Final Fantasy XIII either. Areas actually have some twists and turns, plenty of treasure chests to find (both visible and hidden) and NPCs offering casual conversation bring this world to life.. sort of. Their implementation still feels somewhat mechanical in nature, but their presence alone goes a long way to improve over XIII's lifeless (albeit gorgeous) world.

Many areas that I've seen so far give Final Fantasy XII a run for its money, and just about all of them offer more exploration than Final Fantasy X (perhaps on par with Final Fantasy title before it, minus world maps).

Indifferent
Story - I've heard terrible, terrible things about this game's story, with some fans calling it "unsalvageable" in regards to story-expanding DLC. I haven't seen anything that would make me say that. I'm actually liking it a fair bit so far. However, the whole thing is very.. "convenient" so to speak. These people in their mid-20s are throwing around topics like paradoxes and the space-time continuum like it's nothing. They'll be incredibly knowledgeable about very complex subjects when the story calls for it, yet clueless to much simpler topics. This knowledge, when coupled with these characters' backgrounds, requires the player to suspend their disbelief.

It's not really a problem for me, because the story so far is actually much more interesting than XIII's. It just asks that you not anolyze every little detail. These convenient bits of storytelling are a means to an end, and the end itself is actually a fairly enjoyable story.

Dislike
Serah - As I said earlier, she's helpless and childlike. All signs point to that changing, but as of right now, I couldn't care less if she got trapped in a paradox while I wasn't looking, leaving Noel and Sir Clang to track down Lightning as a duo. Also, can you release her DLC already? A pink bikini is better than that.. thing she's wearing by default.

Combat - The highlight of XIII returns mostly unchanged.. which isn't really a good thing. What was a highlight is actually now one of the weakest aspect of XIII-2 that I've come across. It was fun; in fact, it still is. It also still lacks any kind of depth. You're still just changing Paradigms and spamming attacks. Which attacks you spam still don't really matter, and you're given so few options. I don't care what abilities I'm learning in the Crystarium because 99% of the time I'm not even aware that they exist.

No matter which Paradigm I'm controlling, battles still feel like a hands-off experience. That didn't change in XIII despite advancing throughout the entire Crytarium, I'm not expecting it to change here.

Anyone know of a decent forum site for FFXIII-2? The official website appears to have none.I say appears because the website, as of last night ,was undergoing maintenance, and I couldn't access most of it.

Well I will never pre-order from Best Buy again

It seems they gave the FFXIII-2 collectors edition to the wrong customers instead of the customers that actually pre-ordered it (ie me). So they didn't have it.

Ended up buying the regular version though it still had the novella. I'm still pissed but I won't be pre-ordering anything from them again.

This seems familiar. Back when Dark Souls was to be released, Best Buy were supposedly offering a free CE upgrade with the thing. Come release day, no CE... though I don't know if that's more Best Buy's fault or just Namco Bandai's. Either way, I was and still am quite resentful.

I'm not sure what happened in your case but I know for mine it was Best Buy's fault. They had the correct amount of pre-orders but they gave them to people who didn't even pre-order the game.

I think I'm going to get Armored Core V. It looks fun though I haven't played an Armored Core game in a while. I'm definitely more interested in the strategy component of the game and may try out the game in that capacity.

Also trying to do a low level speed run of FFXIII. I really like the flexibility of the battle system as well as the strategies that you can employ. There is deeper level to the combat system than I first realized and am starting to realize the importance of some of the roles that I used less frequently before.

Not the biggest fan of jrpg's as a whole, but games from the ps2 era (Dark Cloud 2, FF XII, Persona 3, Rogue Galaxy, .Hack), are some of my favorite game to this day.

Seems like they just wanted to branch out. First non-Final Fantasy/Kingdom Hearts original character to make an appearance if I remember right.

Nomura's been saying he wants a TWEY sequel, so it probably has something to do with that as well.

Have been re-(re-)playing it lately too, and have still found new things of the battle system.

Still can't beat the final boss this time, which is weird because my crew is more poweful now than the first time beated it. It's those damn statsus effects he spams in the dark mode, the accessories that protect against pain and fog seem to do nothing and you can only use dispelga and and Renew so many times :swear:

So i switched to mark hunting instead, already seen some places and creatures didn't know existed. 30 down, 34 to go :hehe: Wondering what is the "Omega Weapon" of this game  Still, need to beat the end bosses pretty soon since i have about maxed everyone's primary roles on the 9th level.
