This is good for those who have been hard pressed at getting the PS1 copy.

@jjleon_2 - Xenosaga III destroys episode II in every category. You wouldnt be disappointed by that game. They(Monolith Soft) went all out in the final game. The combat system above all has been redone and much better than it was in the second game. This time around, no matter who you use, you're not a clear disadvantage. There's no "Down" or "Air" attacks and other stupid crap like that.

So, I heard somewhere that Final Fantasy X is getting the HD remaster treatment and being rereleased on PS3. Any truth? I would so love to replay one of my favorite games (of ever, mainly due to nostalgia).

Yep, Final Fantasy X HD on PlayStation 3 and Vita. No release date yet but I wouldn't be surprised if it's sometime this year. I'm hoping it'll the International version since I never got to play it.

It's so good. You should definitely play it. But then, I'm blinded by good memories of the game, so.

Also, "Monster Hunter Portable 3" for the PlayStation Vita showed up Play.com, so either it's an error or they know something!

A few new DLC releases are out for FFXIII-2 such as Serah's bow. The Jihl Nabaat coliseum battle will be available on the 14th.

http://www.siliconera.com/2012/03/08/final-fantasy-xiii-2s-jihl-nabaat-dlc-is-out-in-english-next-week-see-it-inside/

What interests me however, is the DLC for Lightning coming out in May

http://www.siliconera.com/2012/03/06/final-fantasy-xiii-2-lightning-story-dlc-will-arrive-in-may/

I'm also interested in Armored Core V

It's been a while since I've picked up an Armored Core game (in fact the last one I played was on PS2). I've never really played a competitive online game (I've barely touched any CoD games and I played Halo once at my friends house) so I'm a bit intimidated because I'm not so sure of my skill (though I used to be pretty badass with a beam sword and beat a whole game with just that once).

Finished Xenoblade Chronicles last weekend, what an awesome game

Started The Last Story after Xenoblade Chronicles, and already played it for ~15 hours. Not as good as I had hoped, but not bad either.

I used to be interested in Armored Core V. Playing with reasonably sized mechs in a city enviroment, is very cool (while the previous games I've seen have stupid large mechs in a wastelandish enviroment). But unfortunately, the multiplayer focus pretty much killed it for me. I want a solid single player campaign. The reports of the japanese version suffering from framerate issues doesn't really help either. Guess I will never get into the series :P

Dusted off my copy of Final Fantasy XII recently. It's strange how one of my least favorite entries in the series plot and character-wise is also the one I've played the most of. Criticisms of those aspects aside, there's just something very..alluring and ultimately satisfying about gradually moving up the ranks and taking on the big baddies. Even better with an underleveled party, which I easily accomplish by only farming LP on extremely weak enemies. It's also one of the best games in the series to do challenge runs in, mostly thanks to the extremely open character customization and real-time combat.

It took me about 40 hours to do everything in The Last Story, taking my time of course. Despite getting off to what I thought was a somewhat slow start, things really picked up. The story was very predictable throughout, but I also thought that it and a number of the characters were really well done.

It's hard for me to say which I liked more, Xenoblade or The Last Story, but it is one of my favorite RPGs this generation. Two great games for the Wii to go out on though.

I didn't really care for anything about XII back when it came out, but it's really grown on me. I don't mind the story/characters that much (though I am upset we never got to see Matsuno's original scenario for the game), but the gameplay, level design and art direction is essentially what I want from the series moving forward. As Final Fantasy VII influenced JRPGs in general following its success, I've been hoping for a while now that Square would look to XII and build off of it for future entries in the series.

Areas weren't too linear, the combat was extremely flexible and the License Board probably allowed for the most customizable characters since Final Fantasy V (even though I really liked International Zodiac Job System's job-specific License Boards).

Got FFXIII-2 a few days ago and played it a few times since.
I feel like it's a lot better than previously with the addition of monster party members and the live triggers but at the same time I feel theres something missing but can't put my finger on it.
Feels a little like I'm playing Pokemon with how the game feels the same as the previous title but yet is almost exactly the same

- Didn't get the Crystal Edition though, couldn't find it in any local game stores or on their sites.

Well that was an unexpected ending for FFXIII-2

Spoiler
I was a little disappointed though that my choice whether to spare Caius or not didn't change the ending. I will eventually go back and get the paradox endings but for now I think I'll take a break (if only because I have about 4 other games I've been wanting to play).

I wanted to play and beat the game before I gave any comment on the game.

The story wasn't necessarily bad so much as not there. Most of the different time periods are standalone stories but the overall story takes a hit because of that focus. So essentially you get the story in the beginning and then it pretty much picks up again at the end instead of throughout the game. Essentially between the beginning and the end I forgot what the story was.

The battle system was about the same as FFXIII except in some ways it is more challenging. Part of the challenge is to find decent monsters for your party (of which I never found a decent ravager in the vanilla game. Whenever I get Lightning from the DLC I may be able to fill that spot). I also found some of the cinematic action disappointing in that it doesn't really add much to the battle system nor do many of the choices actually change the outcome of battle (providing you don't fail them and I never did so I'm not sure how much it effects the outcome).

As far as characters go I was a little disappointed in character development of which there really isn't a whole lot. In FFXIII the main characters all undergo some sort of change where their outlook is altered. FFXIII-2 doesn't really have that and for the most part the characters remained the same.

I also have a list of annoyances:

Finding Captain Cryptic
Academia 400 AF (at least the monster spawn rate)
Random battles (not so much that I don't like random battles but how they happen)
Chocolina

Overall though I enjoyed FFXIII-2. I'm looking forward to Lightning's DLC as well as some of the monster DLC that is supposed to come out later.

I doubt they'll touch the soundtrack at all. It's not a remake as previously rumored, it's an HD remaster.

So how exactly is Final Fantasy 12 and 13? I've seen reviews, but I tend not to trust them. As a huge fan of numbers 7-10 (and tactics) do you think I would like them? I did enjoy lost odyssey quite a bit, but that's the last JRPG I've played.

Also, very interested in the HD remake of 10.
12 is amazing, I love the story it deals with politics and war, the battle system is a major departure from the traditional battle system but its innovative and never boring, and you have freedom to move.

13 is amazing as well, but it is a long corridor walk its very linear but for me that was its only drawback. The story involves these beings that try to exert control over the people and it involves loss and overcoming the odds, the battle system again reinvents its self you make strategic use of the battle system by using paradigm shifts to adapt to that battle situation very fast paced and again never boring.

Both are must plays.

I bought three Xenosagas and at the same story point in all three brand new games it kept freezing so I never got to play that series, its a shame to what I played was amazing.

If it happens where I think it happens, you can skip that scene. It svcks because it's arguable the best scene in that game..

Yessir

I believe it encompasses Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II (and more?). How much you're able to discuss the series is dependent on what has or has not been released in the "U.S., Europe, Australia, or New Zealand" (as per the anime thread rules). If the manga, or parts of it, have not been released in those countries you may not discuss it.

Alright I've started Rune Factory Tides of Destiny. The story line seems laid back though, usually, in Natsume brand games there's typically a deadline (make the farm a success or the place will be bulldozed down into a parking lot type deal) but there seems to be no hurry in Tides of Destiny. Am I just cool to mess around for a while or will I eventually have to hurry up with the story?

What didn't you like about Final Fantasy XI?

Despite being an MMO I thought it was as good as any entry before it, sporting one of the best stories of the series, possibly the best non-Uematsu Final Fantasy score and a really nice throwback job system/art direction. My only real complaint was how group-centric it was. Up until the last year or so there was next to no ability to solo in the game.

I played the game for ~5 years and would love to see them attempt a singleplayer conversion/remake once the servers are shut down.

I've played FFXI for 8-9 years. It is a great MMO, however like all MMO's it suffers from bad developer decisions.

The Gnosis, which sounds like Episode I, where they are a prominent enemy(you don't see much of them in Episode III) In Ep III, some copies were scratched and that scratch spot was in the data area containing the scene with

KOS-MOS and T-elos first enoucnter.
It freezes moments after she tells the others to leave.

Oh well, that svcks, mmm don't worry about. If you're interested in seeing how the first game plays out, here is the full movie on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvbXiOvWFp0

7 hours long so just watch it in spurts lol.

Haaah, I noticed that exclusion of XII. That game seems to be the unintended exception to the "Modern FF svcks" rule. Also, you may have just forgotten to include X-2 in "worst" or you, like me, actually like that game despite its god awful plot. Job system ftw. Or perhaps you just never played either of those games, in which case you can ignore this.
