Unofficial JRPG Thread VII (formerly the Final Fantasy Threa

I did like that system where you had a quest to do like every few hours or something. I didn't stick around for the first update... I followed the game and watched it fall like a rock for a few months, then stopped caring. XD

I had to "retire" from FFXI after 9 years because that stupid SE account transfer thing would not recognize my POL ID at all. Bye 75RDM/85SCH/70WHM

I think I'll check up on FFXIV since I'm not exactly up to speed on it anyway.

I am looking to get into JRPGs but there are very few that I like. Some are just so boring or devoid of originality others are just pure fan service. I liked Eternal Sonata (very fun game play), FF7, FF4-6, FF13, Chrono Trigger and that is all I can think of at the moment. Would anyone be able to suggest some good JRPGs to me?

Since you liked Eternal Sonata's gameplay then I'd check out the Tales of series. Tales of Symphonia (GameCube), Tales of the Abyss (PS2), Tales of Vesperia (Xbox 360) and Tales of Graces f (PS3). Combat in Tales is pretty similar to Eternal Sonata except that there aren't any turns, it's all real-time. Vesperia is my favorite in general, but Graces f's combat system is a nice step up from the rest of the series.

Radiant Historia on DS is also worth looking into, especially for Chrono Trigger fans.

I'm assuming you've looked into other Final Fantasy games already, but if not: Final Fantasy IX is essentially a throwback to pre-VII entries in the series, so you may like that.

Lost Odyssey (Xbox 360)
Blue Dragon (Xbox 360)
Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii)

Legend of Mana
P3FES (available on PSN for $9.99)
Legend of Dragoon (coming to PSN in May, see my earlier post)
Grandia III (the characters and story are fairly cliche but well executed and the battle system is superb).
