Council: Decision making representatives of the player-base. These members are put forward by the players to represent them, but the final decision on appointment falls on the Admins and existing council members. Except in extreme conditions, the decision of this group will determine any changes to the server

The council is defunct for now as it is inactive. I will make decisions based on what the community desires and by what we really need. If the players still want a council then an election poll should be made over at the new forum.

1.9-10 Update notice: We will be getting a new map for 1.9-10. So we can start fresh with all of the new systems that will be in place.

What is Minecraft?

Minecraft is a creative sandbox game centered around exploration and survival; exploring and gathering resources allows you to protect yourself against a variety of beasties that hunt you down during the night. The creative sandbox elements of the game fuel your want to survive and gather, which in turn allow you to build many wonderful creations. Basic fluid physics also provide interesting means of creating basic machines. The multiplayer is very similar to the single-player, just with more people. Right now neither enemies nor damage function, however an update fixing this will be arriving shortly.

So Minecraft is officially released now with build 1.0. The children are dancing, the air is full of rainbows and butterflies and the people are cheering in the streets. And guess what, the stupid thing no longer works properly for me. As soon as it updated itself to 1.0 the game is completely unplayable, giving me around 1FPS and taking about a month to load a map.

CURSE YOU NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTCH!!!!!

Unlucky, the new build has total increased the level of enjoyment I get now because of the upgraded performance :)
Though its bugging me with the sound of my guy receiving an injury, its just a clicky sound instead of the original "Ohh" noise he made.
My new SSP map has been blessed with fields of red roses as a welcome to 1.0 :celebration:

I'd say a 'modern' city would be easier to stick to. Webaffle Manor was the only real Victorian-era building there, and a sci-fi city would mean whole buildings made out of iron blocks. A 'modern' city would allow for a better variety of building materials and designs, while still preventing giant obsidian towers and cobble castles.

Minecon Q&A:

Jens hates dragons in Minecraft because one was mean to him when he was little.
Horses aren't planned, but 'not never'.
Creepers were named because the model looked "creepy".
Email changing is planned, as well as the possibility of name changes. (displayed nicknames?)
Profile-based gender selection for Minecraft skins is a frequent discussion topic among Mojang. (As Jens put it, "How do you know the default skin is a guy?")

Yogscast panel slated for 3:30 PM CST.

Question for you guys. In 1.0, the 3 stronghold limit per map has been removed, correct?

Well, my current SSP map was generated in 1.8, but it has not generated any strongholds yet. Is it still subject to the limit?

Spawning

As of 1.0 Strongholds have an unlimited amount spawn in a single world. (Changed from just three)

Right, that's what I was talking about. My question was whether that applied to older maps, or just maps generated after 1.0 though.

I'd assume strongholds are no longer generated based on the 600-1200 from 0,0 distance, and now are like mineshafts, just really rare.

What's happening with the map gang?

Waiting for Bone to make one I guess. I have SSP and Ross' temp server to play with just now anyhow :)

I'd assume maps before 1.0 that aren't updated still have the regular spawning of strongholds from 1.8 (or when ever they were introduced.)

How do I get a tree to grow underground? Seems like no matter what I try, the svcker wont grow. I put torches around the sapling, a couple above it, give it alot of space, and yet it still refuses to grow. Even tried Bonemeal to speed it up

Well I finally managed to get the stupid thing to work again. I had to completely reinstall both Minecraft and Java and performance still is lackluster, but at least it works. :meh:

As long as you have enough light and space they should grow. I usually make an underground greenhouse with a roof of glowstone and all manner of vegetation grows fine.

Also, the Yogscast Interview with Notch is probably one of the most awkward interviews I've ever seen. Simon and Lewis are natural conversationalists, while Notch......well....he's not the world's greatest interviewer, and most of his jokes just fall flat.

I only ever tried an underground tree once, and it worked. I did extend grass down to the cavern floor before doing so, so that could be a key component. Robbio might correct me, though.
