Might be a good place for the city. http://tesfan.mchost.org/tekkitdynmap/?worldname=world&mapname=surface&zoom=4&x=-350.83014441117257&y=64&z=-1271.4831735160574.
Mostly flat land, coast on either side, nearby jungle, desert and basalt supplies. Also an NPC village to inhabit while we're clearing the land and laying foundations.
Woah there partner. Texnshasta has already claimed that volcano, and I've already er, evicted the NPCs >_>

I'm wondering whether theres some sort of Equivalent Exchange hocus-pocus that can let us turn water into stone. That way we could just build on that huge ocean to the north.

Probably is, but it can't be that hard to do manually, or maybe some kind of red power tunnel device converting to stone.

Right now it seems as if we'll have to build it on the water. 32x32x32 seems too small (buildings like the nether cathedral can't be built within 32x32 spaces) so we'll probably make the foundations out of 64x64x32 blocks. 64x64 brings us to a city 704 blocks down one side. Thats pretty big. Building without outer walls or the road that runs around the city brings us down to 448 blocks long.

Those measurements per foundation? If so, maybe the should be a bit bigger, like 78 x 78 x 38, I think then it would be easier to fit stuff in.

But there are 49 foundation spaces to be built on, even if they are 64x64 that is a lot of space. You aren't confined to just one 64x64 plot, thats just for planning and measuring purposes, you can build wherever you want, as long as you don't claim an unreasonable amount for no good reason and as long as you are on the correct tier (no building blocks of flats in corporate district for example).

Ah that's good, I thought all the buildings would be confined to just the foundation spaces.

Also, the OP is really outdated.

You could collect masses of sand and/or gravel and throw that into the water until it reaches 1 below the surface, then place dirt or whatever and you've erased the water and made more land :D

Well okay, it isn't that outdated, but it hasn't actually been updated in a long time.

I updated it the last time I was OP, and Tanks added the new billing costs to the top as well.
I don't see whats actually outdated since the links all work iirc and I had changed the Mod/Admin team lists to match who does what now.

Then maybe I am confused. Although I don't believe that Sky is ever on anymore.

If I remember correctly, the alternative to make a "swimming" city (or boat, or whatever) is to put a lilly pad on the water, put some dirt/stone/... block above the lilly pad, and start from there.

Maybe so but he has been on a few times and still seems to have those commands. That just leaves the question of who are the other mods, or are there no others

I was meaning the erase all the water below, otherwise you can just drag dirt/whatever along the surface starting at a block on the shore.

It's simple to work on water or get rid of it, but it's just tiresome.

Last I knew Mirglof was a "Guard" which I am told is the same as a mod.

Sand and gravel then. Really, really lots of sand and gravel, about a stack per 2-3 surface blocks.

The alternative is to take a small island (there are tons of them even waaaay outside in the ocean) and expand from there. You'll still need a ton of sand and gravel though.

Oh yeah, I took him down a while back because he retired as one but was convinced to stay as one so he could kick the unruly. I or anyone else just never got round to adding his name to the list.
