Unofficial Minecraft Thread #85

Oh yeah, I took him down a while back because he retired as one but was convinced to stay as one so he could kick the unruly. I or anyone else just never got round to adding his name to the list.
I still need to learn the new commands. It's been a long time since I was last a mod.

Never knew you were a mod on the server - or do you jst mean in general?
I know off the top of my head;
/kick [name]
/ban [name]
/ban-ip [ip]
/gamemode [name] 0/1
/give [name] [ID] [amount]
/op/deop [name]
/tp [name] [target]
/stop
I think /pardon [name] unbans people and to save the world it's /save-all or /save all

I think these would be all you'd need to be a decent mod.

Yeah, I used to be a mod on the server way back. Don't remember when you joined the server though, so I'm not sure if I was one when you played.

Being a mod is more than simply banning and kicking. Or was last time I was one.

You need to be able to settle disputes which usually involve trying to figure out if person A was the one who destroyed/stole person B's awesome giant golden smiley face or if it was persons C, D, or E. Luckily there are tools for this that allow you look back at a specific block's history and see what modifications (Such as placing, removing, or interacting) have been done to it in the past few days/weeks, by whom, and at what time. Before those tools it was all but impossible. Just ask XKira the Portal Placer.

Nobody ever kicks anybody because someone who is kicked always just comes back anyway, so banning is used more often, but still rarely due to it not being an open server, and there has to be a legit reason.

There isn't any real reason to have many mods due to the small-ish player base, which was why I was let go. That, and I was on one of the breaks that I take away from Minecraft time to time.

Sure you have to be able to settle disputes about theft and such but I left that out since I dunno how to work BB or Hawkeye.

I joined in 1.8.1 when Enderwood (I think) was the main town, I had a small reconstruction of a vault going on not far from it, and in my first few weeks I accidently set off TNT in the town and paid everyone two gold and some iron for my silliness
Can't say I remember you though, I mainly remember Walrus, Waffle and Phonox on that map, oh and Purge a wee while after I joined.
- And Tex I believe started setting up Ravinehold, and there was an NPC town with massive stacked brown shrooms nearby.

--That leads me to my next question; Why the feg can't I grow large mushrooms above ground, and would this mean the only place they grow is in the shroom biome or on mycellium

Were you the one that turned it in to Emberwood, because I'm pretty sure that was done on purpose by some person long banned. I was the founder of Ravinehold on the Emd/berwood map.

I've been around since alpha, and that means that if Minecraft ever starts getting paid expansion pack I'll be getting them for free, apparently. Started playing on this server back in November of 2010. Been around longer than Tank and most other regulars.

I thought Enderwood was Waffle's town, from what I remember hearing she set up there and everyone built around her. Nope, I only set of one TNT then quickly fixed it - after being chased from town by swords held by an angry Waffle and Skooma :P
I remember that griefer - the same guy who put lava at the spawn point and burnt half the town including Phonox's tower.
(The pool party was awesome :P)

My house survived though! By dint of being outside the city walls. When everyone moved away it was like living next to an abandoned ruin.

By definition I believe that's exactly what it was.

Going through my old HDD Fraps folder I have found picks dating back to Alpha 1.2.2. Looks about the same. And a bunch concerning the once-infamous "Holes".

In the hopes that their former owners might move back so that you wouldn't have to live by a ghost town?

Did you try to repair Phonox's tower with netherrack and dirt?
That was horrible and insult to its former look :o

No no! that was someone else's doing. I was faithful to the original cobble and wood structures.

Oh and Justins little village thing down by the shore and Bones Treehouse right above my Vault. I almost remember exactly where everything was on that map, afterall it was my first time playing online. I also remember my first "house" in SP - a 2x3space that led into a massive pool room with jacuzzi bath

- Now all I build is a wooden hut in SP or blow stuff up in Creative and/or make pixel art things.
