What is Minecraft?

Minecraft is a creative sandbox game centered around exploration and survival; exploring and gathering resources allows you to protect yourself against a variety of beasties that hunt you down during the night. The creative sandbox elements of the game fuel your want to survive and gather, which in turn allow you to build many wonderful creations. Basic fluid physics also provide interesting means of creating basic machines.
The multiplayer is very similar to the single-player, just with more people and chat, TeamSpeak has also been implemented for both servers.

Tekkit is currenlty not whitelisted, but may soon change to forum registration whitelist.

Colored Titles Explained:

Purple = Admin [Aedra]
Green= Moderator [Mod]
Yellow = Donator [Jarl]
Grey = Default [Citizen]

The cost of the new server is $75 monthly, due by the 6th of each month. Some really awesome people help support the costs each month. You can be awesome too: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_donations&business=F9AK9VK9NYXD4&lc=US&item_name=TESFan%20Server¤cy_code=USD&bn=PP-DonationsBF%3abtn_donateCC_LG.gif%3aNonHosted
Donators who use the same email address with paypal as is registered with the forum will become 'supporters' as labled on the forums and in game, automatically. Those who don't want to use the same email can simply contact mrtankjump with the details of your transaction and I will make it happen.

Due to an increase in donations, we can consider upgrading memory for another $25 monthly. This would give us 16GB total, and each server would be running on a ramdisk. Bar any network issues, chunk loading should be instant when on ramdisk. Let me know what y'all think, as long as the money can be put up for it each month, and it is something the community wants, I'll make it happen.

The general consensus seems to be that people are happy to gather resources and explore before we begin work on the city so thats what we'll do until everybody is ready. I'm posting this so that everybody is clear on what stage the project is in.

There seems to be a discussion on what the city should be like in the next map. Personally, I would kill for a Blade Runner style city (with less rain), but I'm not sure how that would work. I also think a suburbs style town like tranquility lane would be cool.
I hope i'm not late to the party with these suggestions :(

Gonna repost this, as it got buried in the last thread. If you guys have a minute, I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Minecraft on Xbox vs. PC.

Have you guys tried it on the 360? It was my first taste of Minecraft and I am definitely interested in it. I like the comfort level and simplicity of the 360 version, but it seems...limited compared to the PC.

I've never gotten used to playing PC games with a mouse and just reading this forum and all the specific details confuses me.

Want to put the $25 or so down for it, but am looking for any insight as to which version would be better in the long-run.

Thanks!

@BitterCoast: as for most multi-platform games, I'm going to say if your PC can run it comfortably get it for PC because the ability to mod games is always nice, whether it be complete overhauls when you get bored of vanilla play, or whether its minor tweaks or custom maps. That being said, its my understanding that the 360 version is not as "complete" as PC version.

If you have the cash to buy it again, plus a PC that can run it, as its surprisingly taxing on some systems as you can see if you read through previous threads, then yeah get it for PC.

I'm sure someone else can give you more specifics and such. I thought I'd give my thoughts on the subject. Slow day at work and all.

Yeah, my system runs Skyrim better than Minecraft. :tongue:

Also thanks for fixing the permissions errors on vanilla Tank. :smile:

Sorry to disappoint, but I'm never going to be on the Tekkit map as long as NEI remains a horribly broken mess.

Thank you for your responses. That explains a lot actually. I think my laptop can't run it. There is a terrible lag and it's very choppy. Considering the style and size of it, I thought it would be impossible for it not to run well, but if other people's PCs have had trouble, then my old one likely would as well.

I'm still interested in whether or not anyone has placed the full release on the 360 version. Seems my best option, I just don't want to feel like I "missed out" somehow if that is the one I opt for.

My brother plays it, it's essentially Minecraft from several generations ago in beta, with the restriction of all maps being only 1000x1000 in size.

Taught him tekkit, and he's been around for more than a month.

Good to know, thanks.

I think I'm going to move forward with the 360 version. The PC version is just too slow for me frame-rate wise. From my understanding, people like the 360 version if they never played the PC, as it has an easier learning curve and they obviously know any better in terms of what is missing.

Go to options, switch build to latest mode, not recommended. Tekkit is still technically in beta at the moment.

We'll be building a city of skyscraqers except that they will be built on foundations that get higher the further into the city you go. This is so that the buildings in the centre will always be the highest. The foundations will also be full of machinery and infrastructure. So it will be similar to Bladerunner except that I think Bladerunner has a lot of old buildings still around, this city will not. You're welcome to take any of your favourite buildings from Bladerunner and build them in the city, we'll have a ton of space. I personally want Mirglof's face on a http://www.liveforfilms.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/blade-runner-billboard.jpg.

In case you have problems finding a nice seed, I used http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/626786-v2029-amidst-strongholds-village-biome-ect-finder/ in the past, and it works great - use it to quickly iterate through the biome generation of different seeds to get the feeling of how the land will look like, where the oceans are and so on.

"Currently Tekkit 3.0.3 is technically a beta, and as such you must manually select “3.0.3| 1.2.5 | Latest” to connect to a Tekkit 3 server. We’ll give it a couple of days before we push 3.0.3 to Rec. build to give servers time to really flex Tekkit 3 and everything to settle."

Maybe this should be read and remembered by quite a few people to avoid the massive errors on the chat window like last time when they get kicked :tongue:

"Over the last week in Snapshots, we have seen a lot of exciting things coming up - Ender Chests, villager trading, the merging of SSP and SMP modes into a fluid, single system - what else could possibly be added to this pile of goodies to make it even better? We can think of one thing - tripwires."

Yeah, tripwires sound nice (especially if they can be "hung" at different levels and take their texture from wool, and can be coloured like wool too). I can already imagine myself booby-trapping a whole jungle biome, along with creating a just-below-surface maze of tunnels for safe travel for those who know how to use them ... (Special thanks to the Vietnamese National Liberation Front for the inspiration).

I went assploring, and found this location as a potential site for the city: http://tesfan.mchost.org/tekkitdynmap/?worldname=world&mapname=surface&zoom=4&x=-233.80397212479897&y=64&z=753.3170944116213.
This map has too much ocean.

How much space does the city require? Something like 250 x 250?

Given that NPCs will have a trade value in future, I believe that griefing villagers should be considered a war crime, with the perpetrators either suspended or sent to Spandau prison.
