Hi I'm in the process of building my first gaming PC and I would like to know how this build would run Skyrim. I will mainly be playing Skyrim and Fallout New Vegas, so I was hoping someone on these boards could let me know how this build would run, and if I should change anything. I would really like to play skyrim on ultra, but at the same time be able to have a bunch of mods going all at once,all while running the game smoothly, I know I'm probablly pushing my luck though. Preferably at 50- 60 fps. I'd really appreciate any help , thanks!

CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor
Motherboard: MSI Z77A-G41 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Storage: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Storage: OCZ Agility 3 60GB 2.5" Solid State Disk
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 2GB Video Card
Case: Antec Three Hundred Two ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W 80 PLUS Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply
Optical Drive: Sony AD-7280S-0B DVD/CD Writer
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (64-bit)

Okay, building a new rig once all the parts come in. I know my machine will run Skyrim well, but I would like to know what kind of performance'/FPS can I expect with Ultra settings (minus ultra shadows which I heard are crappy anyway) including 2k textures mod, as well as various gameplay/immersion mods such as: Frostfall, WATER, and Realistic Lighting w/ Customization. I am not sold on ENB, but would consider it if I can find one that is less cartoonish and more "real," if that makes any sense.

Mobo - ASROCK Z77 Extreme3 ( 2 x PCI-E 3.0 x16/x8--makes little difference over PCI-E 2.0 at this juncture)
CPU - Intel Ivy Bridge i5 3.2Ghz ( 3.6 with "Turbo" but lets assume stock speed)
MEM - 8 gig DDR3 1600
VIDEO - SLI GTX560 2GB
Game HDD - Samsung 830 64gig S/ATA III SSD
Windows 7 64

It's not my first rodeo with building machines so assume optimal hardware drivers, and so on.

Hard to say what exact fps you'd have with the mods mentioned, but I'd imagine you'd fair rather well performance-wise.

Just wanna know if this computer would be able to run skyrim on at least medium settings:

  • SEAGATE 1TB Barracuda?, SATA 6 Gb/s, 7200 RPM, 64MB cache

You could probably expect medium with that Radeon 6570.

Ultra settings, although an overclock on that Q6600 would help...aged CPU these days and may hold back that 660Ti you got.

I wouldn't say you're pushing your luck at all. You have a strong setup and I would think it would do what you'd want it to for this game.

You can run it on ultra no problem, upto 1920x1080 after that fps will start going down rapidly

Anyone know what sort of texture packs I could run with my current GPU? 5870 1 GB, overclocked. (CPU's: dual quad core's @ 2.8ghz)

I'm currently just running every setting maxed, including ENB w/SSAO, at 1080p, and average 45fps.

Sorry if this isn't the right place for this question, I'll move it if that's the case.

That is what I was hoping! :banana:
Now I just need to find a good "Overclocking 101" tutorial LOL

I built my pc about two years ago and I am looking to upgrade a few components. I play 1920x1080 and currently can't run too many texture enhancers because of my limited vram. I'm really wondering if I should upgrade my GPU or CPU? I know that I need more VRAM but if I get a better GPU will my CPU be able to keep up?

I've got a
GPU: Radeon HD 6850
CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1075 @ 3.0 GHz
RAM: 2x2GB G.Skill Intl 1333
HD: WD 1 TB caviar black

Thanks for your help!

It should run it, but the GPU is a bit weak so don't expect anything too spectacular.

So it should run fine on low settings?

so i've decided to install skyrim on pc. so it automatically detected that it can run on ultra high settings 1920x1080 reso. the problem is the dragon fire that alduin breathes on the starting scene is not visible(when you were going up the tower, the scene where alduin pokes his head into the tower and destroys a part of it). and also the water on whiterun can't be seen. same goes for the absorption of dragon souls.

my current specs : i5 2500k @3.30ghz, 8 gb mem, asusP8Z68-V mobo, GTX 560 Ti. and im using a samsung 23" monitor.

my friend is also running almost the same spec but with 550ti, i3, and lower mobo and he can see the fire breath and the water on streams and whiterun :(. any ideas why i cant?

my drivers are uptodate btw

This is not the thread for that. This thread is to tell how Skyrim will run on a given hardware configuration. It is not to diagnose problems.

Ive been playing skyrim on xbox since its release, however, i really want a good laptop/PC to play skyrim and other games on for the mods and extra things that playing on PC offers. Could someone tell me if this laptop will run skyrim on well and if not, could someone recommend a laptop or computer for around £400 that will. The laptops specs are: HP Pavilion g6-1369ea 15.6 inch Laptop PC (Intel Core i5-2450M Processor, RAM 6GB, HDD 640GB, Windows 7 Home Premium) Thank you in advance :smile:

The correct thread in which to get purchase advice in for a replacement PC will be in the Community Forum, not in here. You will need to consider something other than any ordinary laptop like that poor quality HP.

The most important part of any computer intended for game play is its video graphics card, which must be on its own separate and discrete circuit board. You have named none, and if you do not have one, the game will play very poorly, if at all (Intel does not make real graphics solutions).

The 4200 is a chipset chip, not an actual video card on its own discrete circuit board, sorry. It won't do the job.

Skyrim Minimum Requirements

* Windows 7/Vista/XP PC (32 or 64 bit)
* Processor: Dual Core 2.3 GHz C2D or equivalent CPU
* 3GB System RAM
* 6GB free HDD Space
* Direct X 9 compliant video card with 512 MB of RAM (and
sufficient performance to actually put that VRAM to use)

* DirectX compatible sound card
* Internet access for Steam activation
