Here's the proper thread for that inquiry: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1415651-the-community-tech-thread-no-121/

I know my chances of running Skyrim are very slim (perhaps non-existent ...), but I figure Skyrim on low settings with Hearthfire and Dawnguard + unofficial patches is better than Skyrim on it's own, on PS3.

Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T8100 @ 2.10GHz
2GB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon X2300
200GB HDD
Windows Vista 32bit.

I'm pretty clueless when it comes to hardware, so there may not be enough info there. But, at a glance, do I stand a chance?
Thanks :)

Nope. Not an ice cube's chance in hell. A real video card with real VRAM, designed for use in games, is an absolute must, and you have none, cannot upgrade because it's not a desktop, so I'm sorry, you're out of luck.

Darn. I had a feeling that might be the case.
Thanks for the answer.

http://www.build-gaming-computers.com/

Is this site legit? I want to build a PC that can run Skyrim on ultra, and looks like their high end build should be able to do that.

Also, is building a pc as easy as they claim? I have zero experience with such.

Thanks!

So I recently bought a new laptop but I don't have much of a clue when it comes to system specs etc (never been a pc gamer before). I have skyrim on ps3 but I'm pretty frustrated with the lack of DLCs and support. My question is, would it be worth getting skyrim for my laptop if I have the following specs:

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 Bit
Processor: Intel Core i7-3610QM CPU@2.30GHz, 4 Cores, 8 Logical Processors
RAM: 8.00 GB
Memory: 1 TB
Total Virtual Memory: 15.8 GB
Intel? HD Graphics 4000 (1.9 GB RAM)

Any more info needed? Can this laptop run Skyrim and at what graphics quality? What I'm really confused about is what graphics card / sound card I have, since I've not modified this laptop at all to be a gaming laptop. Is it still up to scratch?

Many thanks

Since it's one of Intel's newer CPUs, the integrated graphics solution can run it but won't fare all that well. Also, it doesn't have 1.9 GB of VRAM by the way. That's memory that's shared across the system.

Everything is good except for missing an actual GPU.

Thanks, when you say "won't fare all that well" do you mean in terms of framerate? Would i be able to get an acceptable framerate at an acceptable graphics quality? I made the mistake when I was younger of buying Fallout NV on Steam (on my old much weaker laptop) and it was a slideshow...

Also found that I have DirectX 11 whatever that means.

Cheers.

Can't tell you that. I've never run an integrated graphics solution myself and I don't like benchmarks all that much with that sort of thing as they can be easily skewed (for integrated, that is; not period).

Just need to know how well this system will be able to run Skyrim.

GPU: GTS 250 1024 MB
CPU: Phenom? II X2 555 @ 3.2 GHz
Ram: 4096 MB X2 (I don't know the speed.. I think it's 667 ns each?)
Motherboard: JW-A785GMT-EXTREME
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
Resolution: 1920 X 1080.

I'm getting ready to build a machine, and I just want to make sure that it is capable of handling the game on ultra at 1080p with heavy mods installed (preferably some post processing, but I would be ok with just hd textures).

Motherboard: AsRock Z77 Extreme4
CPU: i7-3770k @ 3.5 ghz (3.9 ghz turbo)
RAM: 16 gb (2x8 gb) Corsair Vengeance Low Profile @ 1600mhz and 10-10-10-27 timings
Primary Drive: Mushkin Enhanced Cronos 90gb SSD (up to 550 MB/s)
OS: Windows 8 Pro (64 bit)
GPU: Undecided.

Essentially, my debate for the GPU is between a GeForce 650 ti, GeForce 660, and a Radeon HD 7850. How would these three cards compare when dealing with heavily modded Skyrim?

Thanks in advance !

For the OS, you may want to drop down to Windows 7 64-bit. Though, you may like 8 but my opinion is that 7 is still superior. As for the GPU, go with the 660, 660 Ti if you can afford it.

That's my opinion, anyways. The rest looks good for ultra. :)

Thanks :). My opinion on 8 at the moment is that, although ModernUI can be trying at times, the fact that it takes up ~10 gigs less on my SSD makes it attractive haha. And the gaming benchmarks are the same. I have free copies of both OS's lying around, so I'll keep debating with myself which one to use.

The GTX 560 TI is far better than the GTX 650. However, the setups that come with the 560 TI all have older Phenom CPUs. The Phenom was a great chip for its time for sure, but I wouldn't want one in a new build now unless it's a budget machine or something.

If there is a system with either the Core i5 or i7 and the GTX 560 Ti, that would be preferable.

Hello,

I have an old CPU, and RAM, but newish video cards.

Intel Q8400 Wolfdale quad
8 gigs DDR2
(2) GTX 560 2G VRAM

I know the machine will 'run' the game, but I'm curious regarding how optimized Skyrim has become via patches and mods like Skyboost for older dual and quad core procs. If this rig will not support the game on "high" with texture mods, then I'll probably just wait until I build a competely revamped machine. I apologize for the newbiness of the question but it's been quite some time since I've visited these forums. Thanks for any help in advance.

You'll be fine as long as that CPU is clocked higher than 2 GHz. My laptop's CPU is from around the same era and I do fine on high. :)

Also, Skyboost is obsolete and completely unnecessary now as Beth has done official compiler optimizations.
