to VATS or not to VATS?

well VATS is awesome but FO3 was easy because of the too many skill points, too many perks, too many SPECIAL points and not enough high firepower weilding enemies, even at level 20 or 30 raiders still had lead pipes and not enough other enemies had high firepower, VATS wasn't the reason FO3 was easy. but as far using VATS, it all depends, sometimes i use it sometimes i don't, sometimes not using it is more efficient and sometimes using it is more efficient it just depends on the weapon and situation etc.

You are right that Fallout 3 was easy because of many factors but wrong about VATS not contributing to that. Its essentially an I WIN button that can be used in every encounter. When you use VATS it doesnt matter what weapon your opponent has because you are nearly immune to it anyway while giving out nothing but headshots.

An aimbot that reduces all incoming damage by 90% and increases your crit chance certainly makes the game very easy.

Screaming isn't nice and it doesn't make one want to read your post. That said, I agree. V.A.T.S. has brightened the gameplay of too many gamers to be taken out. And it is kinda fun to use from time to time. Especially for sniping

I'm with the people who stated no option the poll fits my V.A.T.S. play style. It all depends on the situation. I like VATS to finish off an enemy and to save ammo. At other times I just use regular aiming. I mostly use VATS for when enemies are moving around, sometimes its hard to hit a strafing enemy. I found I also used VATS more when I played very hard. Well we got about a tad bit more than a week for this game to come out so I'll see then and tell you how I'm using VATS in new vegas.

Oh, well I suppose that would be understandable. I still wish it had the F3 FPS aim, that was mainly my combat use, but at the same time, I have never played an FPS, aside from Bioshock, so Ironsights might be a problem for me. But, I learned to use F3s aiming Flawlessly. If Ironsights is the only way to fine aim, I'll just have to learn to use that too.

you can turn off ironsights which iswhat I'll be doing. Even when I play CoD andBorderlandsbi hip fire if no scope so I will use VATS no ironsights.

Myself, I have trouble with the fast-paced action-y bits during Fallout 3's combat (and chances are that's not going to change anytime soon.) Something about trying to keep an enemy in my cross-hairs long enough to shoot something and hit, while also trying to avoid enemy fire, and still be even moderately tactical about the whole thing - generally means that all I'm really doing is standing still and pumping lead as fast as I can.

Just not my cup of tea.

So VATS is something I kind of make heavy use of in these new Fallout games. I'm rather glad they have it. Because otherwise I'd be kind of crippled in a game like this - without at the very least something akin to how Mass Effect let you pause the game at will, and at least catch your breath and figure out what's going on.

I think it's a relatively new game mechanic, that takes the Bullet Time concept in a new direction - and like most new ideas, there's plenty of room for refinement. But if anything, I think any problems with VATS the way we know it thus far point to reasons to improve and build upon the existing concept; and not necessarily scrap the whole thing altogether.

I have to agree with you on ME take on combat, really like the combat camera and being able to think through things.

I wish ME2 brought weapons back as how they were in ME1(shotguns ruled) and hated how simplified they made allocating skills
( , it was more indepth in the first.).

But one thing they did right in game mechanics was make combat alot more fluid with the bumpers quick use of powers to do more combos on the fly.

Sorry OT.

I think its nice that they have both options, Iron sights for people who like running and gunning or want "immersion" in their game and vats for the more tactically minded player :)
