Video game remakes.

Shadow of the Colossus. It would (theoretically) not be hard to recreate the feel of the original, being such an uncomplicated game, and with such an artistic focus it could really benefit from a graphical and audio upgrade. The original looked great, but in several places really pushed the PS2. It would be neat to experience it with smooth textures and framerates.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. A game like this would obviously be risky to remake. So risky I'd hesitate even to apply theoretical dream-logic to it, but I'd certainly love to see it. The original is a favorite and a classic considered by many to be one of the best games ever, and this is despite the fact that the game was badly, badly plagued with problems throughout development. It was released loaded with bugs and left-out content. It'd be awesome to be able to go back and let it be developed with a AAA budget and no development nightmares, and see how much better it could have been.

It was remastered in the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ico_%26_Shadow_of_the_Colossus_Collection. Framerate is locked at 30, but it's still better than the PS2 version's.

System Shock is a spiritual successor to the Bioshock series.

Other way round. Bioshock is the watered down version of System Shock.

I want to see a remake of Goldeneye. Not a re-imagining, not a game that just uses the brand name and nothing else (looking at you, Rogue Agent), but just a remake with better graphics, sound, animations, and MAYBE updated controls. Everything else from the map design to the weapons to the basic game mechanics should stay the same.

Bioshock was the spiritual successor to System Shock 2, not the original. Gotcha! :P

I have thought about this for a while too. That would be amazing if they could actually pull it off and be able to sell a 2 pack for $25. I'm not sure how Interplay would react though, seeing as they technically have distribution rights until 2013.

Yeah with the amount in them and to do it perfectly spot on the same but from a 1st/3rd person perspective would take years and all the quests/characters. But with what the new engine did with Skyrim it might be possible to do.
Though mainly I said this for lolz since I thought about it months ago before buying the originals and since a lot of the "dinosaurs" hate the idea :P

Ultima VII. It's been well over a decade (maybe even as much as 15 years) since I last played, but it was more or less what got me into gaming.

I also wouldn't mind seeing Planescape:Torment remade, so long as it's purely graphical, with remastered audio.

Since I guess Activision owns the rights to that game, I doubt that would ever happen. Or be any good, if it did.

http://www.gamespot.com/gangsters/reviews/gangsters-review-2536135/ needs to be done right.

That game was fun, but frustrating as well. The mid-week rts portion was a little wonky, but the beginning-of-the-week orders section was brilliant.

Yes. This won't be happening, ever, but it would be cool. Although... If I'm not mistaken, there is WoD MMORPGer in the works, so there's still hope that this amazing tabletop is done right by.

I'm not a dinosaur, but this is a terrible idea. I'm not convinced Bethesda has enough humour and quirkiness to pull it off properly. They'd also need to get better writers... :whistling:

I think they have splendid writers, but my idea would be a direct port of the games into a 3D, "New Fallout", realm. Sure, they'd have to make some visual and gameplay tweaks, but I think the writing and voice acting can be left intact.

That was a little unfair of me. I'll rephrase that: I think Bethesda needs to learn how to integrate story and world interaction/reaction better.

Okay, I could get behind this.

None. Remakes almost inevitably miss what made the original great. Times change, the game market change, development priorities change. Complexity, charm, mechanics, all may disappear, even if what made them great in the first place is just nostalgia.

Except for the HD Remakes that Sony has been pulling on the PS3 lately. All of those are pretty much the same exact game with slightly sharper graphics. I've been seriously pleased with both the God of War remakes and the Ico/SoC remakes. I'd probably like the Metal Gear remakes too if I ever bought them.

THAT is how I think they should be done. The same game we all know and love, except in a shell that works on more modern systems. Imagine Daggerfall or Redguard "ported" to a Windows 7 platform.

The Longest Journey could use a remake. Playing a game in 640x480 with no proper way of using anti aliasing is hell... Plus the backdrops in that game are often spectacular, but rather low res...

I'd love to see remakes of this franchise (minus 5; that was a mistake).

I bet you bought it and your Pentium 1 couldn't run it so you formulated this opinion the day it came out.

No, it worked fine. It was just a mess. It was still the early days of 3D, and clearly nobody in the development team knew what to do with it. I think the process went something like this:

Development Team: "Okay, we have enough fans to be able to make money on a 5th one. What do you say, Sierra?"
Sierra: "Argh, all right. It has to be in 3D."
Development Team: "But what would that really add to--"
Sierra: "In 3D!"
Development Team: "... okay."

It was really, really ugly. Even for early 3D standards.

Well they do have game types in Reach set up to ne exactly like CEs multiplayer so, Meh. :/ But their map choices to bring back were pretty bad. No original bloodgultch, sidewinder, the teloportet map, boarding action and all the halo 2 maps I cant remember atm. This just shows you how thought out 343 is.

To each their own I suppose. I played through it a month ago and still found it beautiful. The characters are the only thing made of polygons in the whole 2d world anyways. The story and interaction, the art and heart are all there and that game is amazing. Go back and play it. I doubt you'll find it as ugly as you say. It's sixy to me. I've probably never had more fun with a video game in my entire life. Don't get me wrong, I love all of the QFG, particularly 3, but 4 is amazing too. 5 is the best imo.

If it is the right game I am thinking of, is it the one where Mantis(?) starts reading off your memory card and shakes your controller?
