Wasteland 2 is the direct sequel to the first ever post-apocalyptic computer RPG. The original Wasteland was the inspiration for the FALLOUT series of games, and the first RPG to allow players to split parties for tactical considerations, to face players with moral choices, and to make them deal with the consequences of their actions. It was the first to provide far more than the one-key-for-one-lock style of puzzle solving. It was groundbreaking, which is why IGN named it one of the top 25 PC games of all time, Computer Gaming World named it the Adventure Game of the year in 1988, and it was short-listed for inclusion in the Smithsonian Institution’s current “Art of the Computer Game” exhibition.

$15 gets you get the game when it's done. It is now also possible to donate to the project http://wasteland.inxile-entertainment.com/pledge.php.

Latest news is that if the project reaches $2.1 million, some Obsidian devs including Chris Avellone will be joining the project for design and writing (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/inxile/wasteland-2/posts/199078). So here's your chance for a true old school Fallout-like game.

I really love this idea where we can get the games we want without publishers interfering in the process, or rejecting the game altogether.

This. I was going to start this earlier in the day but figured it was too early.

I'm having fun hitting the refresh button again on the Kickstarter page.

...or setting a release date that doesn't allow for QA and bug fixes to be completed.

I wonder if the collector edition autographs will include sigs from the Obsidian team if they collaborate. That would be cool.

Honestly don't see them making much money off of this, still it'll be interesting to see how its done and if it will bolster the PA genre in games and media.

So? they obviously don't care too much about money.

I hate what the game industry has become, money over everything else, to the point where the gamers think more about money then the game.

Can't say I was all that excited for the game, since I haven't played the original or the first two Fallouts. Still, a chance at a real old school RPG is worth it. That $50 pledge is tempting. Digital game, physical game, digital soundtrack, digital art book, and novella. Nice!

You should play them, even if you don't like them its worth it just for the experience.

I assume the money donated covers their wages. They will make enough, if they get more thats good too. Aslong as they dont loose money, it dosent matter.

There is a thread asking that in the Wasteland 2 forum you could check out that's been up for a while. Some posted Ebay links.

There are also people who aren't willing to buy on a promise. They'll get the game after they see reviews and user opinions. Others will gift it on Steam and other places. Etc.

I don't think it'll make a lot of money, but it'll make something. Plus, like you said, it keeps them employed, and that's what matters. Also, Obsidian will obviously get a good chunk of the development money for allowing InXile to use their tools and libraries.

I think it's likely that gog.com will start selling it thanks to all the new demand.

Not likely. EA still holds the rights to it. We'll more than likely see the d-bags at EA drop an anniversary edition on Origin right around Wasteland 2's release date with a low price of $40 or so.

Although, you can find the game on Abandonia.

It may not be a billion dollar AAA game but I bet it'll make more than people think. I'm considering buying another copy after it drops even though I already backed it.

I thought EA and GoG had some sort of partnership.

They probably do. But they are a bunch of dike's and they'll more than likely hold it until the last possible momet and throw it up on Origin so the jerk-offs can capitalize on it even more. But I'm biased because I harbor extreme hatred of EA so, I could be way off base on my prediction due to my blind unabashed hatred for them.

I decided on $250. I just can't justify the $500, as much as I might want the post-apocalypse survival kit.

With shipping, that equals $265 in total.

I'll get around to pledging some time this week. I have to figure out who I'll beg for the use of their credit card.

Wasteland 2's managed to raise almost $100 000 today. http://i1172.photobucket.com/albums/r567/ooofbaer/tyrabanksixcited.gif

What if they don't get much money and decides to cancel the project? Will "our" money be sent back? *http://chzmemebase.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/paranoidparrot.jpg*

This is great news, I'm even more excited, and I want to pledge more money, if I could afford it.

They already have enough money to make the game. This 2.1m mark is just for Obsidian involvement.

Making games is all about making money these days. I'm sure they will make some, but with most people pledging cash towards the project and getting all this free stuff idk.

Making lots and lots of money is really not the point with this game. There are no massmarket or massappeal pressures, there will be no consoleports, it is aimed solely for the niche who thought the conventional cRPG genre was dead, who grew up with or later enjoyed the cRPG's of the 90's, to people who are willing to back this project. Their goal has been reached when the game they offer to make gets officially funded, they don't need to think about sales to cover up expenses, if 1 game is sold after the release, they've made profit.
And that works - there is clearly an audience for these kinds of games.
Now obiously they'd like the game to sell afterwards, and it will (for how much, is a mystery). But that's not an issue here.

So, I'm trying to download Wasteland from Abandonia, but it keeps taking me to a pdf reader download. ... Am I missing something obvious?
