Weapons, Mods and Ammo Mega-Thread #4

I remember when Josh posted that, It was when we were all guessing what the .45-70 firearm could be. I guessed the good ol' Winchester 1886 Lever-Action would be the weapon, who knows maybe its in? :tops:

Isn't the Cowboy Repeater an 1886 lever action?

Too many lever actions anyway :whistling:

You ain't won the pool yet, Reinbach. Although I must say it's looking good for you. Another lever action makes the most sense since loading and firing animations would not have to be altered, just a new weapon skin would suffice.

I bet Josh isn't telling us 'cause he doesn't know.

The Cowboy Repeater is reputed to look like an 1866 or 1873. They had much larger recievers with some distincive features like the 1866's brass frame. and the side plate on the reciever of the 1873.

You know what? I just took a close look at the pics of the Cowboy Repeater on the wiki and it doesn't look a damn thing like either the 1866 of the 1873. Reciever is too short and no side plate. It looks most like a 1892.

Which is why I'm hoping it's a rolling or falling block. Completely different look. And also, I want to win the pool.

The Assault Carbine uses 5mm.

The 1892's design is well-suited to shorter cartridges like .357 Magnum.

That said, I don't think any of our lever-action rifle designs are "pure" in their inspiration.

EDIT: By the way, you know what Rossi '92s in .38 Special/.357 Magnum are not well-suited to? Consistently feeding rounds with an OAL outside of 1.6"-1.7". What a pain.

And it'll probably end up being a break-open single-shot. :P

I would have to agree. (which is obvious. How can I disagree with something I know nothing about and of which you are intimate?)
When mulling over pictures of Winchesters, the picture I found that looked the closest http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Winchester_Rifles_Model_73,_86,_92,_05.JPG. I actually wondered if that was one of the pics the artist used as source material for the model. BTW, that's actually an 1886 in the pic.

You know, I missed the top one the first time I read this. 5mm. Okdokay.
As to your Rossi, what are they doing? Hanging on the feed ramp? Double feed? Using .38? Wadcutters?

Just spit balling here, but my question is: will there be any sci-fi styled rounds for the conventional weapons in the game, or attachments that allow you to fire them?
Example: An electrical system attachment to allow you to fire negatively charged rounds. Would be useful against robots, but reduce the velocity of the round.
Example: Extremely abstract here, but high caliber hollow points filled with liquid nitrogen, that freeze the section of the enemy that they hit. Would require a cooling mechanism for the barrel to keep the heat of the bullet from turning the liquid nitrogen into nitrogen gas, and just causing an explosion.

Another idea would be to add non-lethal loads to different guns. Such as beanbag slugs, rocksalt filled shells (not necessarily lethal, but will make you cry), tranquilizer darts, rubber bullets, etc. I would never use any of them, but the option to use them would be ... neat.

More Brainstorming:
1. Usable mounted turrets.
2. Flame turrets (as seen on T.V., in "The Road Warrior")
3. Crossbows
4. Crossbow gloves
5. Bayonets, for when the enemy is literally right on you and ammo consumption would be frivolous .
6. Alternative grenades - a smoke grenade would be nice.
7. A gun that harnesses the sound that attracts sharks.
8. A gun that shoots smaller guns out of it - like the kukla's in Russia.
9. A weapon that, as opposed to the ARCHIMEDES, uses the power of the moon (which, in all truth, is just the back side of the sun (have you ever seen them together?)).
10. A harpoon gun.
11. Mum-Ra.
12. Using the syringe of a Med-X and the poison that is used on melee wepons, a silent killer that injects poison right into the blood stream, or into food, drinks, etc. of enemies.
13. A net canon.
14. A set of metal teeth, that, when placed in the mouth, can be used to bite chunks out of enemies. "Try to bite me, Vicious Dog? If that is your real name. Imma bite you back!"
15. Laser Glasses, because espionage was big in the future.
16. A derringer that can be snuck [sneaked?] into casinos.
17. A sniper oriented version of the laser rifle/plasma rifle.
18. Gloves that are coated in kerosene, and can be lit ablaze.
19. The best weapon of all: a short-wave radio that allows you to call in back-up at your own leisure.

Edit: Punctuation.

Assault Carbine uses 5mm eh? I never would have guessed that, but it's not unheard of since the AK-112 was in 5mm.
So- next question- is the Service Rifle also in 5mm? How about the marksman carbine?

That leaves BB, .45-70, 12.7mm and .50MG. We're narrowing it down/

Agreed I really would prefer a completely unique Rifle like the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Springfield_Model_1868 or the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharps_Rifle to be in the game over a crap-load of Lever-Actions. (Nothing against Lever-Actions I love them, but there is such thing as to much of a good thing. :))

Its to late to beg or plead for them if they're not already in New Vegas but I would love to see the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LeMat_Revolver or the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colt_Dragoon_Revolver. :tops:

I'm pushing for the BB.
I'll bet there's a .45-70 rifle of some sort.
I'm predicting that "CCSMG" will be a 12.7mm SMG.
And I'm making a tentative guess that there will be a man portable M2 as a top tier big gun, or perhaps something obnoxious like a http://members.shaw.ca/tmcveigh/Projects/GunRights/images/maadigriffin1.jpg

Maybe though, Sawyer doesn't consider the BB a "guns guns" round.
In that case, I'd say that .50 is the oddball, only used for the AMR.
Or, maybe .45-70, and there is no rifle version for it.

The .50BMG Pistol is ridiculous its like a sawed down Barrett M82, I bet that thing kicks like a [censored] pack mule.

Josh specifically said "guns" ammo type. Didn't say "round", didn't say "gun". I think your top prognostication is probably close.

I picked that one because it looks more homemade- that's because it is. The story behind it is it was designed to be built from plans distributed across the country by militias. The guys who made it got raided by the ATF. As a result there are very few of them around.

There's also http://www.reedercustomguns.com/information/stupid/50bmg.jpg, the Thunder pistol, which is more professionally made and has a sort of futuristic look to it.

See that Thunder Pistol is a little less ridiculous looking but it still looks like something RoboCop might run around with. :P

I'm just holding out for the Man Portable M2 Browning Machine Gun, I'd much prefer that over some over-the-top .50BMG pistol to be honest.

And then some. Seriously...I've got a .45-70 BFR, and I've got nothing against a bit of serious recoil therapy. But that .50 BMG handgun is riding the fine line between insanity and maschism on a wobbly bicycle with a broken wheel. :cringe:
