Wendigos...

hmm yes I see what you're saying, when I said they were in slumber I meant asin dormant, like suspended animation, they are spirits after all. A quest then to stop an evil witch who is trying to create an army of werewolves by warping men and women with black magic, but something goes wrong and they retain the body of a man but the ferocity of a werewolf. The Dragonborn has a choice to kill them or to let them live, (however some escape and breed over time in both instances and those are who you fight in Skyrim's forests.)

For me it makes a little sense mechanic wise when you think that we have numerous enemies local to the frozen regions of Skyrim but not as many purely local to areas like the Rift and the Reach. Like the Frozen regions have the Frost Troll and the white frostbite spider, ice wraiths, wisp mothers etc. For non forested regions we have a normal troll, and non frost versions of wolves, sabre cats, bears etc. Besides Trolls and Spriggans the forested regions have very little in the way of indigenous threats. I think adding a wendigo at level 40-50 with a lot of health and a crap tonne of damage resistance and a really high pitched howl that sounds more like a shriek than anything else (ties into the fact that they were intended to be werewolves.) As someone mentioned before Bethesda really should add a horror element, I love suspense haha. We know they can do it, remember the Dunwich building in Fallout 3? That [censored] was terrifying lol
Hm...they sound a little like banshees by your description.

I'm not sure about the Dunwich building though those mutants who crawl on multiple human arms convince me that Bethesda can make something like this. I had one come out of nowhere at me during night while the Nightkin are shooting rockets at me. I turn around in game and almost jump out of my seat. lol

Why the Bosmer? I was thinking the Forsworn

Bosmer already have a cannibalistic society.

Well that does make sense.

Eh, personally I'd say make them tied to the Forsworn, like you suggested. Mainly because I always think of cold climates for wendigos and because if the Bosmer already are cannibals, the whole cannibal aspect of the monster is kind of moot, since everyone is already a cannibal. Then again, if they go down the route that cannibalism increases your risk of possession, that could make it work for the Bosmer.

Still though, I'd give it to the Forsworn. Add to their mysticism beyond Hagravens and Briarhearts.

I don't know if you've ever seen the show "Lost Tapes" but they did an episode on the wendigo, one of the creepiest ones yet.

It's a monster born from a human eating the flesh of another human. They turn into hideous wildmen, who are eternally starving but can never fill their stomach
So its like a sentient zombie.....interesting, but if they put that in here people would just whine about bethesda jumping on the zombie bandwagon, god forbid they add new lore to their games right?

I don't dislike the idea. Could be a good fit for a northern climate and with the Forsworn (originates from Algonquins in Canada).

Wow.

That brings back some Mighty Marvel Memories. X-Men and Alpha Flight.

Wendigos would be an awesome addition and cannibals should become one.

Though something did say that people would complain about "zombies" in Skyrim

Why would you even mention deathclaws? We're not talking wendigos from Fallout...

On the topic of scary things, there was this thread a while back called "Stickman Quest" or something like that. I believe it was in Skyrim general discussions. It was all suggestions for a scary or creepy quest/questline.

Except it hasn't appeared in any lore before now, and we've seen Namira's followers before...

So?
The Forsworn didnt exist until Skyrim either and they are an entire ethnic minority and the original inhabitants of the reach.

Oblivion and Skyrim already sported an Uderfrykte so I see no reason why there couldnt be a Wendigo.

I think the main problem is so many games have used the name Wendigo that most people don't know the real wendigo story

Huh? They did. It's just that they were called the Thu'um and Reachmen. Forgive me if I'm missing something like irony. Anyway, something not existing in lore is no excuse to not to put it in. I have a very vague idea about wendigos based on Werewolf: The Apocalypse (obviously you're not referring to northern, insular Native American werewolves) but they sound sound smashing. If Bethesda doesn't make new lore they might as well stop the franchise and say "Play the games we've already made,".

Wendigos as a wereform for those who worship Namira has been sitting on PC modding to-do list for quite awhile now.

Wendigos are cannibal spirits that can possess humans or a creature a human can turn into by eating the flesh of another human. They are nothing like werewolves

He's saying that worshippers of Namira (who practice cannibalism) should be given the ability to transform into Wendigos, similar to how those who worship Molag Bal often are Vampires (and the Order worships both Bal and Clavicus Vile) or how Hircine is the patron of Werebeasts.

Similarly, Namira could be considered the Matron of Wendigos.

I don't see why Beth hasn't added them already, it would be the perfect fit

Not to mention, minotaur's, centaurs, dragons, goblins, orcs, elves, giants, trolls, imps, harpies and a heck of a lot more creatures who Bethesda have borrowed off of folklore. I think just about anything is fair game.. cept maybe Father Christmas.

I would love to see Skyrim's Father Winter (santa) Flying across the sky, shoot down a dragon, land and kick ass with his BATTLEAXE!

...then drop you a nicely wrapped gift as he flies away.

Or randomly attack you if you're a Vampire! lol. LOOK OUT! HERE COMES RUDOLPH!

Ah, some searching around shows that they are indeed mentioned pre-Skyrim, in for instance The Arcturian Heresy.
Learnt something new :)

In any case, youre right.
Just because something did not exist before, doesnt mean it cant be added.

oooo OR BANSHEES! Like the wisp mother only they absorb health and demoralise any followers oh and they could drain stamina too! They could be heralded by a sudden appearance of Mist then a heart stopping shriek. All the animals in the area would run like hell too haha.

They could freeze the ground as they move

No, Wendigos arn't like werewolves. Unlike werewolves your always in wendigo form and there is nothing on your mind besides filling your bottomless pit known as a stomach as your eternal hunger drives you mad
