What anime taught me.

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 6:28 am

I hate naruto, im not an anime expert, but I think naruto is terrible. I dont actually know anything good about it.

Speaking of good anime, I think im going to try and watch GiTS, it interested me but I could only catch random stuff on TV. Same for FMA and Big O. I wonder of there is a site that sells me dvd's, but subbed ones.
Fullmetal Alchemist is a really great series. I've only made it half way through the second season, but I've enjoyed it so far. It's heavier then most of the anime I watch now, but still good. You can find some of the animes on places like Netflix and Hulu, btw. Though they're completely hit and miss or are often subbed.

Is the boonedocks an anime cartoon?
The art is anime style, but other than that, no.

No, it simply has an animation style that resembles it. Technically the only real definition of anime is "animation from Japan", but since everything popular is copied a thousand times over, these days many shows are drawn in a similar style. The actual animation itself is done in South Korea, though.

I'm gonna guess you mean "shonen" anime, seeing as how bishonen anime means "full of pretty, pretty boys."

Hahah!

Well... I have seen some animes "full of pretty, pretty boys". Actually, that's part of the culture I still don't grasp yet. They often have "pretty" boys or they dress like girls.

And for those who don't like anime - why did you even bother clicking on this thread?

Fashion never makes sense, and ultimately that's all it really is. Why were giant beehive hairdos attractive, or bellbottom pants, short hair then long hair then short hair again? White after labor day is bad because? What about ear-enlarging earrings and neck-extensions in Africa and foot-binding in China? "Pretty" became the thing in Japan for whatever reason, and the media of the time reflects it.

Is it a bad thing that all my favorite animes are from the olden days when the violence was so gratuitously violent it would put Quentin Tarantino to shame?

Eh, long as you know it's only okay as fiction (and that it is fiction :bolt:), and are aware of it's position in general society, I don't see much of a problem with it.

Unless it gets you all hot and bothered, in which case I reserve the right to look at you funny :P.

It's probably also worth mentioning that I learned cute cartoon girls doing cute cartoon things are the best distraction from all the suffering in the world.

So, I'm wondering... I know a lot of you watch anime. What have you learned from it?

When you nuke a country a couple of times, it's gonna produce some of the most deranged and [censored] up cartoons on the planet.

This isn't a bad thing per sé, just deranged and [censored] up.

The cartoons that is..

The nuking probably was a bad thing.. as well as being [censored] up.

Whatever else there is to say about Japanese/anime/manga/whatever culture, I'm glad that it's so different to anything else out there. I find it interesting. I'd miss it if it didn't exist.

:lmao: I notice a lot of blond westerners in anime are religious nutcases. I agree with the first comment!

If this guy gave a sermon at my church it certainly would make Sunday morning more interesting? for me.

If I went to church, that is.

Sure he's a nutcase but not because of religion. That's from Hellsing. A series with vampires and the supernatural with part of the story being a clash between the English (Protestant) and Rome (Catholic). That guy is Catholic and wants to kill Hellsing's vampire Alucard, a Godless monster. I can't remember the exact context of that quote though.

Dying can really update your wardrobe - Gungrave

If the goofy, ridiculous, or over the top guy suddenly becomes serious; Woe betide any that come at them. - Trigun, Rurouni Kenshin, actually just about any anime

Japanese people will lose their balance if surprised - Any anime

Oh if anyone wants to see an anime without squeeky girl voices, -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xhS76d2c4M Instead the only guy main character has a squeeky voice.
