So, what did you honestly expect from the Elder Scrolls Onli

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 9:50 pm

Its going to be a merge of WoW and DAoC.

All that matters to me (read that word carefully - me me me me me), is that they at least do as well as the initial release of LotRO with a lean towards the size of Mines of Moria for each location and that they allow first person view.

Forced third person is absolutely a show-stopper. Cannot handle it. I'll use it, but let me use my mouse to decide on the fly.

If I can feel immersed in the world like I could to a point with LotrO, then I'm in.

But, nothing on the list says Guild Wars. Many younger gamers may never have seen it, but the head of the division is ex-Mythic. There's no Guild Wars in this. DAoC was the biggest new thing in PVP in the last 12 years.

Note: I'm not implying you're younger if you like Guild Wars. Just aware that not everyone can play ever game ever made. Lord knows I have a shelf full of them in shrink-wrap.

I am curious as well, despite the little lore controversy but thats a whole different ballpark

I am expecting a buy first, free for life like GuildWars is. Automatic dealbreaker if there is a subscription.
Yeah i agree. i am looking forward to E3,Mostly for dawnguard. And TES Online and other games too,But will we get more info at E3 about this game? If so,I hope we get to see some gameplay.

What i expect from TESO ? A huge open TES world to explore and adventure in . Tons of dungeons and ruins and area's of interest to find and explore. A story to uncover, lots of NPC's to meet and quests to set out on, tons of loot to find, you know pretty much all the stuff we do in single player TES games. That IS what they are planning to bring to us so im looking forward to it no matter what.

I disagree with a third person option. People will use it just because of the view advantage over first person. If it is going to be first person, it needs to be locked first person.

There is a good way to solve that; I've seen it in some games before.

Basicaly, in third person any character that is not in line of sight will be completely invisible. So you can corner peek, but you won't see anyone untill your actual character model moves around the corner....

Im sorry but to me, that sounds like a horrible workaround. I agree with above if it indeed was going to be a first person game they should go first person all the way BUT TES games haven't been "first person only" in what 15+ years ?

In a pvp mmo setting the guy in first person view has a huge disadvantage when it comes to melee compared to the guy in 3rd person.

Well first of all I have to say I find it completely pointless to start name-calling so early in the game saying inane things like "Oh it's a WoW/DaoC/GW2 Clone because I read it has 'x' feature".

I played WoW for several years, then after becoming disillusioned with the endgame I wanted to try something totally different, so I played Darkfall Online. Two vastly different games, both have hotbars, but one is a tab-targetting auto-lock based combat, where-as the other is a free-aim fire-where-you-point style combat. Correct me if I am wrong but nowhere in the GI pages or the interview did they mention how the combat plays out. I do hope the combat is more reactionary and situational, not just a skill rotation.

Granted I will admit I was hoping for gameplay closer to Darkfall Online, but I can't say I was "expecting it" since that is not a very well known game. I'm excited nonetheless to learn more and so far I think i will play it unless they come out with a huge turn-off feature that ruins it for me. My only disappointment is that it seems the only way to become Emperor is to be the best PvPer...which kind of svcks.

Well, I think that depends on the player. I find 1st person view much easier and faster than 3rd. It was just an idea to fix the problem of 'corner peeking' that most 1st/3rd person games allow when in 3rd perspective.

Personaly I'd be fine with it being1st person only. (if the game was going to be that style)

There are workarounds in other games, not perfect but better. 3rd person requires that your weapon/spells be sheathed. It's for vanity and exploration. Once you pull out your weapon, which should have a nice audible sound and not be instantaneous (1.5 seconds til weapon is ready) you are locked into first person, so corner looking would working only to an extent and anyone approaching a corner would be listening for the audible weapon unsheathe noise. Works in Planetside.

I was hoping for a SKyrim ONline type of game. instead it appears we are getting a Rift derivative. I wonder if it's going to be an equipment grindfest like most MMOs; that would be terrible

I was hoping a skyrim multi-player also

I've not really been active on the ES forums since Morrowind...

Oblivion was a massive disappointment to me. Skyrim was an improvement but again I felt it was dumbed down.

If this were ESVI I would be massively disappointed...

But as an entity separate from the mainline series I think it actually has a lot of potential.

Yeah, it's not going to be nearly as freeform as Morrowind or even Oblivion or Skyrim. Is that necessarily a horrible thing though?

As long as the mainline series keeps going I like the idea of a more linear but focused series developing alongside it.

We won't be able to explore any given city in the way we can in Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim but the cities can be much larger and have a...different kind of detail.

I expected something more like Skyrim, but online version. Of course, there could not be everything like in the TES5 game, but I hoped for the style of the game to be kept. I hoped Bethesda would be bold, like in the single player field, and try to make their own marks in the MO business, and was afraid, they would be intimidated by the existing games and MO population, that they would try to make something, that already works for masses. I hoped for no fixed fractions or at least for possibility to choose sides. Even better version of Neverwinter Nights multiplayer (better graphics, systems, toolset, greater max number of players, etc.) would be great and a heaven for modders and players alike.

Right now, I am afraid.

(I created this forum account only to post in this topic.)

Honestly, I expected something more like Pathfinder Online. I don't seem to be allowed to post links, but the company is called GoblinWorks, you can find their development blog by googling.
Their design is spot on, 100%, what I want from an MMORPG today. And it's what I had expected from a TES online game. I read through that blog yesterday after someone on these forums linked it, and for every line I read I thought "Yes... yes... YES... OH MY GOD YES THIS IS EXACTLY IT!!!1".

Obvious question is obvious but why dont you just go and play Pathfinder Online then?

Honestly?
I expect a maximum 4 player online coop in first person view (as it should be..)

And honestly i was really shocked from the news of a online elder scrolls title because the Strenght point of that Franchise was the "single player style" that no one can match, in deepness and enjoyment!

and at last .. honestly! i hope that Bethesda will not create a Leviathan like wow that as target got only to make money .

Bethesda i say it once. learn from games that are not Master Piece like Dead Island but that can show you how to make a Coop experience work, and apply that to a Elder Scrolls or a Fallout Title... that will Double your money mantaining your status of Excellence and prestige...

the online is not the way. expecially when the subject is a game that make the history of the nowaday videogames.

do not ruin your story! there is always a way to make money i can assure that to you.

(sorry for my english a lot italian style but.. you know :) )

ciao.

There is a massive difference between a shortcut menu and a Hotbar.

WoW's combat was great... 7-8 years ago... I think everyone was just hoping for something that hasn't been run into the ground already, and why blame them?

I felt massively let down the more I read about this game.

I started off like: "Oh, awesome. I didn't think they were going to make something like this! Sounds like it has amazing potential."

To: "Traditional MMO style combat? What are the Devs thinking? That's just plain lazy."

To this: "I no longer hold any positive expectations for this game. I feel as though my soul is being [censored]."
