So, what did you honestly expect from the Elder Scrolls Onli

I guess it is not the best sign that your MMO will do well when http://youtu.be/U0_pqyTQqzk?t=10s is the reaction you get when you first announce your game but I gotta wonder what exactly were you guys expecting? Of course there is that portion of the fanbase that considers any form of multiplayer or social interaction to be the tool of the devil and should be ignored and left alone in their basemants but then there is the other portion of the fanbase who were expecting TES online to be basically a Massively Multiplayer version of Skyrim but do you honestly believe that such a thing would be feasable with current technology?

Honestly what did you people expect?

That being said however from what little we have seen I already see one huge problem that could potentially be the death of TES:O, personally I dont think I will be getting the game but I am willing to see what it actually has in store for us.

Well straight away I expected a first person view.

And that was dashed straight away.

Well I for one believed Pete when he said he and his company wanted to concentrate on single player games and not make a MMO. Apparently while he was saying that his parent company was developing just such a game for years and years.

I didnt expect the game to be another generic MMO. Its really nothing new from what I saw. The relm combat was done years ago in DAOC and now a new game Guild Wars 2 will also have it.

I expected more. I expected something groundbreaking.

/disappointed

I expected publishers to finally realize that WoW clones never work, and so wouldn't try the same thing if they made a TES MMO. Nope, investors are still morons.

It uses a hotbar, of course it is.

/sarcasm

A more ample description would be DAOC clone, which is hardly a bad thing.

funny how you bash people for dismissing the game without playing it, yet you announce it to be amazing before playing it. isnt that a double standard?

Seems more like a Guild Wars clone, but DACO works also.

Too bad it is.
To bad having a hotbar =-/= wow clone, becuase that is literally the only thing it has in relation to WoW

Read the GI scans, its is so a GW2 clone if anything.

Which would be acceptable if this game was called Guild Wars or Dark Age of Camelot 2. But this is The Elder Scrolls.

But the ES has never been known, or defined, by its gameplay. It was the vast world and exploration that made the ES what it is.

Which according to the GI leaks, the MMO still has.

False; all games are known for their gameplay. There's plenty of wiggle room to evolve it from game to game, but you can only push so far before it's unrecognizable, like what they're doing with TESO by throwing out all the gameplay elements except for the hiking simulation part and replacing them with elements unoriginally lifted from previous MMOs. It'd be like making a Call of Duty game set in medieval Europe; it wouldn't play anything like the other games of that series.

Ugh........... you obviously seem intent on purposfully misconstruing what I say to further a silly argument.

But if you must know changes in gameplay are irellivnet. Command and Conquer was turned into a FPS, and that FPS was still Command and Conquer.

What makes a game series is not its gameplay, but its world, its characters, and its lore. As long as they keep that, which they seemingly are, it can never NOT be a ES game, regardless of if its a FPS, RTS, RPG, Fighting game, etc. etc.

This silly notion that changing the gameplay somehow makes it less of a ES game is........... well exciedningly incorrect and highly close-minded

I expected a free-form character system and a mature, dark and gritty look. Everything else I got.

Of course it Is.
Has already been done with Mortal Online.
Except this wold have been made by professionals with money, resources and professionals that the indy developers of mortal online lack.
And set in the world of tamriel.
An iteration of TES made multiplayer is entirely possible.
What is missing is a company willing to pull it off

I expected it to look and feel like TES at least. Which to me includes (but is not limited to) first person perspective and some visual realism. And from the screen shots neither is present.

I'm not against the idea of a multiplayer TES but I'd like the developers to make it for TES fans first rather than the usual crowd who play MMOs.

It really seems like generic-looking-game + MMO + TES label on the box. I would love to be proved wrong however :)

Honestly? I didn't expect anything at all. What I would have wanted - and would have paid for - is a game where the developers took the gameplay of the series it is named for and adapted it to an online format. That does not appear to be happening.

Doesn't matter. This game is very real and very happening. TES is heading in the direction it needs to. It actually should have happened sooner. This is what Skyrim should have been.
