What is with the spreading of misinformation? Example: Crysi

Post » Tue Apr 20, 2010 7:59 am

Crysis 2 uses something called Live Create for development.

No version of the game is a port - all three versions are being created at the exact same time. Gameplay-wise, they will be identical. Graphics-wise, the PS3 and 360 are identical when rendering Crysis 2.

What is with the spreading of misinformation? It would help if Crytek actually explain some of the **** they have said. :O

Although in regards to porting they have explained a lot. The game is developed on the PC and then automatically ported to the Playstation 3 and Xbox360, automatically scaling the graphics and keeping the gameplay the same across the board.

No it is not, as Ultimarage explained no version of the game is a port. It may be created on the PC but live create converts and optimizes everything in real-time.

That would still be a port, albeit a better one than doing it by hand. The only difference with Crytek's way of porting is that it doesnt require extra man hours or production costs, it is all automatically done by the software.

Then I guess the PC version is a port too because it's being created in real-time along with the others.

No, because it's being created on the PC. For your statement to be true, they would have to make it on a completely different system and them port it to all three... which they aren't doing.

It's not designed just for PC therefore it's not a port. Porting is converting a game that had been previously designed for a specific platform and making it run on another.

rayech got a point, they have to make sure everything they do runs fine on all platforms. Their live create is no magic tool, it just saves man power and production costs.

The general gameplay and design of the game has to work on all plattforms and that is the most important thing. Live Create helps not wasting time.

EA is responsible for delaying the game.

EA doesn't own Crytek. They are just doing the game together, hence the name EA Partners.

@Tora shin
that's because Crytek always tries to do new stuff unlike the COD series, which hasn't changed much in the years neither technically nor on the design side of things.

Now compare Crytek to that - it's their first Multiplattform game and they're basically reinventing the series plus they've lots of new tech.

First of all EA own the distribution rights to the game, Crytek are simply their biches now when it comes to release date

And it was designed to run on PC then scaled to run on console, sounds like a PC port to me..

Any game is created on a PC. Secondly, it's not about where the objects are placed or the triggers are setup. It's about what they have to consider when designing the game. This includes choosing locations, game features, setting, AI etc.... They make sure it's fun on consoles and PC. So they have to take care of the weakest plattform.

As I sad earlier I'll play and then judge.

You can't call it a port because it's being designed in all 3 plataforms at the same time, and port is when the game is finished you upscale it to other plataform.
But works like a real-time port and no one will be judging the exact meaning of each word, so I think we can call it port

I think we can avoid this touchy issue by simply calling them versions, as in "the PC version" or "360 version"

It's the same game, why not just call it Crysis 2? Or maybe the game or something? same name for everything as it is the same damn data only it is on a different disk with the few tweaks to make it work properly?

I expect the PC version to have a bigger
textures.

Plus, each platform has its own formats so it won't be the same data

hell I'm a smartass lmao

Lmao. :D

I am pretty much sure that Crytek themselves have described livecreate as "automatically porting", atleast that's what i remember hearing. Because of that, its why I call the console versions ports. ;)

Besides, we don't have any libertarian around here with a dictionary, so it doesn't really matter. :P

Even if that's true then they failed to capitalize on the maximum capacity of the playstation 3's full potential end of story.

Hey, I saw the Tech demo trailer of crysis 2. I was the 12 th Person on Youtube (Yey!). And I know, that the game is developed on the PC. And crytek have shorten the max graphic and made the PS 3 version. Then they have shorten that and made the Xbox version. Nice to see when you watch the Tech demo.

Time 1:25 - Live create

On the PC it looks perfect. On the Ps 3 not perfect but good enough.
On the Xbox, the game just look like pudding. Or would you call "That" shadows?? And do you see there anisotropy? But i recognized, that that what we see in the sandbox is not the finished version. There is no GI. It's not fully rendered. It looks great, altough there is no global illumination.
So MY rating would be:

PC = 100%
PS3 = 085%
Xbox = 060%
(MY rating NOT YOURS! Don't say that i am stupid just because you don't like waht you see!)
