What do you feel like is missing from Skyrim?

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 7:10 pm

-Cannot be a vigilant of stendarr
-lack of varying armor/weapon types
-unique armor
-lack of people in cities(I feel like whiterun needs more random people since it is the place to go to buy and trade, like mentioned in game)
-cannot craft circlets
-cannot craft staffs
is this what you agree with?

*That "interesting narrative-branching" which was promised with Radiant Story
*That "bug detector" which claimed that developers could fix all bugs and anticipate bugs from mods
*These advanced graphics that everyone expected after seeing the first few game pictures that were actually rendered externally and enhanced with PhotoShop
*The ability to mess with Skyrim's economy by burning wheat fields and destroying lumber mills
*This new engine that isn't GameBryo, but a completely new and revolutionary engine
*The ability to play lutes, drums, and flutes for your job as a bard, as promised
*That 300 hours of content, compared to reality where all of the game can be completed in 169 hours or less than that
*The impressive AI of dragons that would read your actions and react accordingly
*The large variety of voice actors and compelling acting

I'm trying to get a general idea of what most of you on the forum feel like was left out of the game. Anything from armor types, to acrobatics, to certain stories not told, to items (anything).

For me, I know I'm a little upset about these:

-No dragonbone weapons
-cannot upgrade silver weapons(but we have silver ingots)
-Cannot be a vigilant of stendarr
-lack of varying armor/weapon types
-arrow crafting
-unique weapons
-unique armor
-lack of genuine dialogue
-lack of people in cities(I feel like whiterun needs more random people since it is the place to go to buy and trade, like mentioned in game)
-cannot craft circlets
-cannot craft staffs
-cannot create unique magic abilities
-Cannot Enchant Clothing/Armor with Acrobatics

Just a handful of things I was wondering on. I can give more details if need be, but my main idea of the post is to figure out what else people thought was lacking in the game. I'm hoping to get enough recognition for some of the more popular things so we can hopefully see them as patches or dlc in the future.
Fixed it for you

-better userinterface to manage huge amount of items (with icons)
-less leveled loot to make exploring worth it and more artifacts
-get rid of random quest where the reward is only gold coins >.< , seriously why should i do these i can just clear a random cave and get some ebony stuff and sell it would be worth 10 times more!
-more and longer questlines like in morrowind, it doesnt even need spoken dialogues
-better intergration of vampires or werewolfs
-more jewelry and armor slots

The biggest things it lacks for me:

Disposition
Choices with Meaningful Consequences (including choosing your race)
Acknowledgement of Achievements
Racial choice has little bearing on the overall narrative

Skyrim is missing some Sweet Kick-Butt Weaponry like Dwarven Hand Cannons, Crossbows, Claws, Flails, etc.

There's no unique weapons or armor? I also didn't know silver weapons couldn't be upgraded?

A. Did they promise all that and did anyone ever actually believe it? Especially after they promised all that with oblivion too? I remember how they said that killing shop keepers would change things etc but none of it happened. Such is the nature of Beth games. They're great but they don't live up to our hopes. Still better than mw3

Fishing. Seriously, all these alpine lakes and rivers and not only can we not sit down any old place, but the fishing poles in the game are just clutter. Hopefully somebody is working on a mod for this.

This game is in dire need of a faction/reputation system.

I agree with almost all of the above suggestions. Plus,

1. Horses as Companions with more options (Ride, Follow, Go Stable, Wait Here)
2. Craftable/enchantable Horse Armor, Horseshoes, Saddlebags, Pony Potions (put a pony potion in the saddlebag and the horse will use it to Heal, Muffle, Sneak, Transform...)
3. Most of the suggestions from the "Would you spend your money" on vanity items thread; essentially build-your-own houses, upgrade farms, estates, keeps; build houses, statues, et all.
4. Definitely reputation/cause & effect realism.
5. All in-game items could learn to be crafted.
6. Start your own factions, guilds, temples, et all.
7. Unicorn. Mount-class unicorn (or at least a transformation potion you can use on your horse). Make it hard to get, but unkillable, like the Shadowmare used to be. It could be a counter mount to the Shadowmare, actually--you have to have committed NO murders to attain it...an "Untainted Quest" line or something, completable after level 40+/-...

Made a thread about this before but I will say it again I wish there were more underwater areas/loot. Also I think that they missed out some of the great spells from other Elder Scrolls games.

90% of these issues can and have actually been fixed with mods. I do agree with the dialogue though, I would prefer a lot more things to say to people, but I am a bit of a curious swine who likes to ask people everything lol
Mods should never EVER be used as an excuse for flaws in a game, period.

OT:
Unarmed, Unarmored, Athletics, Acrobatics, Mysticism, an option to turn off all that idiotic forced 3rd person and many more.

What's missing from Skyrim, to me, is a set of basic animations for the Dragonborn. Eating, drinking, clapping, simple gestures, yawning, rump-scratching, dancing, things that would bring the character 'to life.' As it is, the Dovahkiin just stands there like a statue unless there's a fight going on. Boring and disappointing. If I were a modder, I'd write something myself, but I couldn't mod my way out of a papyrus bag.

Beyond that, I'd LOVE to be able to form a third faction vying for the Crown, fight the Empire, the Stormcloaks and the Thalmor simultaneously, maybe even recruit some Dragon help (after you're done with Big Al) and dedicated followers and soldiers.

Firstly: I think Skyrim is a great game (otherwise I wouldn't bother spending time posting about it in a forum )

That being said I already know what eventually will drive me away from the game:

The user interface!

Especially in the beginning of the game I tend to hoard lots of stuff, and it takes forever to store or sell. I know one of the most popular PC-mods takes care of some of the issues, but I am playing on ps3.

I spend far to much time organizing my stuff in various containers, and its even more of a hazzle when I need to find something again.

"Change your playstyle you may say", yes, I could do that, but that would take some of the joy out of the game for me. So I either suffer with my preferred playstyle and the UI, or I play Skyrim in a way I do not like. To force a player to make decissons like that is the definition of poor UI in my book.

Apart from a change in Ui I would like:
  • Something trophy-like to spend your money on - like near-endless improvements of cities, farms, houses etc.
  • Some kind of "camp-ability-perk"; that would let me use a messenger to deliver stuff to one of my houses (I hate spending time fast forwarding back and forth just to sell or store stuff).
  • Less loading screens! I loathe the ragged flagon for that alone. If a Bethesda gamme anno 2012 still needs loading screens, please keep them at a minimum (one level).
  • Ability to purchase a shop, were I hired someone to sell items (the ones gathered from my adventures). That way I could store my excess loot in the shops inventory, and it could slowly be sold with minimum of micro-management from my part (Especially if used with the "messenger-perk" above.)

I miss dramatic scenes. If you're talking to someone they're just standing still. Perhaps some movement in their hands but not much. Look at a real person speaking and observe how much he moves, arms flying around and stuff. This makes the conversations too boring which leads to that I'll skip them instead of actually getting to know what I want to know.

The number of spells is lacking. Cannot craft arrows. No attributes, less skills. It's still a good game though.

A strong stats system, a good journal, believable guilds and guilds questlines, a mature and complex dialogue writing.

Mods are only good for the PC users, not for the 360 and PS3 users. Therefore, they can't be use as an excuse. Only IF we are talking about the PC version only then we should mention Mods.

Oh, just remembered something else my family really wants added--Locate Companion function.

Enemies show up with a Red Dot in the locator bar, why can't Companion/Dog/Horse/Followers show up in Green? A map marker if out of Dot-range would help if they are way the heck off in la-la-land, or trapped somewhere in a dungeon, etc.

Make finding wayward followers a lot easier, and so easy to implement, too ._.

Here's what i felt lacking or missing in Skyrim:
- unable to play any flute or lute even though they are all over the place.
- no climbing animation. Jumping around to reah the top of the hill does seem a little funny and silly.
- marriage option felt too simple( why is almost veryone eager to marry a stranger)
- cannot attack while mounted on a horse.
- lack of NPC in towns and cities especially when compared to games like Assasins' Creed where the cities are heavily populated.
- no dancing NPCs in taverns? At least New Vegas try to implement some of that.
- chest inventory system does not have categories.

1. Difficulty in later levels on Master.
2. Difficulty in other areas than combat.
3. Complex rules from dice games that means something in the game. "Hard core mode".
