Which do you prefer Oblivion or Skyrim?

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 9:29 pm

I'd like to know what game you like better and why? Oblivion or Skyrim? If you choose Skyrim please list one thing you would of loved to see from Oblivion that didn't make it only Skyrim. If you choose Oblivion tell us why.

For me is simple. I love both. I can't choose. Although the lagging and freezing on the ps3 that Skyrim has is leading me more towards Oblivion. I say both because If I'm in a certain mood I like one over the other. Skyrim is a little scary sometimes and Oblivion makes me happy. Scary is good though that's why I like it.

Please leave out graphics. Graphics don't count because I'm talking about when both games actually came out. Which one did you enjoy playing the most basically.

Skyrim.

The Oblivion gates got boring and repetitive. And the leveling system in Skyrim is much, much better.

Hmm for the total package definitely Skyrim.

Main quest, Oblivion.

The world, Oblivion.

Skyrim has a great world, but I am not to much into the snow. I loved places in Oblivion like Skingrad, Anvil, and of course the Imperial City.

Well....I played Oblivion off and on from release day until 11-10-11.

We'll see in a couple years if I'm still in Skyrim, or if I've gone back to Cyrodill.

Right now I'm absolutely loving Skyrim. I feel much more attached to my character....almost as much as I did in Daggerfall.

Oblivion. Skyrim is too watered down IMO.

Can I say Daggerfall, or Morrowind?

Morrowind was rad for sure. I miss levitation and the Mark/Recall spells. But between Oblivian and Skyrim, i am leaning towards Skyrim just because it seems so epic and I do like the added challenge. Once I got into Oblivian, I just ran through it, not too terribly challenging. The replay value of Oblivian is emence, but it's just the gratification of working out different character classes, less the game, where I think Skyrim is more open and will be a challenge every time and nearly every level and class. Yep, Skyrim for sure.

I dont understand these people I have played Morrowind (ages ago), oblivion and Skyrim and Skyrim blows them all out of the water.

I highly doubt most of the people who say a one of the previous games is better are being sincere. They REALLY need to look a both games. Morrowind was great but each subsequent game has been a vast improvement. Allot of people are just being stubborn when they say the like Morrowind better. I mean they are entitle to their opinion but my opinion of their opinions is that they are not sincere.

Morrowind and oblivion had a painful hack and slash system, Skyrims combat is awesome.

Oblivion, it had more mechanics. Spell Creation, acrobatics, speed variables, H2H as a skill, degradation, more spell effects etc.

old topic...

Skyrim, it's prettier, the levling is way better then picking from 8 skills that i will change my mind later on, it's more... different as far as the world, and the dungeons are better, the main quest keeps me interested as well.

Skyrim. Its far deeper, offers far more choice, and has a far more detailed and engaging world than Oblivion.

That said, Oblivion is still an amazing game, probably top 3 of all time in my book alongside Skyrim and Morrowind.

Your favorite is dependent on what value you place on certain features.

You seem to have a high value for combat quality, so naturally Skyrim will be superior compared to the previous games. People like me place a high emphasis on magic, and spell creation in particular. Since I feel Oblivion is superior in the magic department (and I place a high emphasis on magic) and improved combat is a low priority for me, Oblivion is therefore better. That is why I prefer Oblivion more than Skyrim.

Of course there are a ton of other things I liked more in Oblivion, but that was just an example. In short, Skyrim improved a lot of features, but most of the things that got better I never really cared about anyways. The cutting from Oblivion to Skyrim is another reason I prefer Oblivion, because some of the things cut were very enjoyable for me.

Skyrim. Anybody who says Oblivion is just overeacting at a few shortcomings that they didn't like.

Oblivion has better spells and character stats. The menu is better too. The guilds have longer storylines. The Dark Brotherhood is much more interesting. Skyrim has better everything else, especially in the technical department and world design, but that's somewhat to be expected in time.

It's a toss-up.

World: like 'em both

Dungeons: Skyrim

MQ: Oblivion

Faction quests: Oblivion did some better (DB, TG, MG) Skyrim did others better (Companions, Civil War)

Guards: Oblivion

Skyrim is overall the best TES. Oblivion was good but it got immensely repetitive.

Skyrim. The only thing I miss from Oblivion is custom spell crafting.
