Why did people pre-order?

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 8:51 am

the point is in case they run out of copies they will have one saved for you. and plus you get a free bonus.

So other then the "Special" map why do people pre-order. All i have heard from people who pre-ordered there games either get them later. I hear more problems about it then anything else. Im just the guy who walks in at 12am or 1am and grab my copy and get out. Of course i live in a small area of ohio so no worries about not getting one. Again i am not bashing it im just wondering.

Edit- I understand the Steam reason but i dont understand the 360 or the PS3.

I pre-ordered my Xbox Skyrim back in March at GameStop and paid a little every month so that when it was time to get my copy, I didn't have to plunk $60 (or $150) down all at once. It's a great way to budget instead of waiting til the last minute and then deciding, "OK, now I gotta' drop this much cash RIGHT NOW." Doesn't hurt nearly as much if I do it a little at a time.

I pre orderd because I'm sick to death of playing Oblivion. Sick to death of playing Fallout 3, and sick to death of playing New Vegas. Now I've got no video games to play, and dammit I need my fix. :stare:

I Pre-order on amazon because they don't charge tax and don't charge you a dime until it is ready to be shipped. Pretty much a win-win situation imo.

I don't feel like driving to my local Freakmart at 1am in the morning to grab it, that's even if they put it out by then, I also work 10hr days with a nasty commute, so no thanks.

I preorder same day delivery through amazon, it's here by the time I'm off work. Why wouldn't you want it delivered to your door step on 11-11-11?

Also I have NEVER gotten a preorder late from amazon, but then many still think there is only ebgames/gamestop for games.

I can buy it brand new for $60 and get nothing with it or I could pre-order, spend the same $60, and get a bonus map with it. I usually don't pre-order games but when you're getting something for free with it, then why not?

Also that map will look good in my room.

Did you try buying GTA: San Andreas on opening week? A lot of my stores were out of stock for a week. Was the longest wait during my young life at the time.

Two reasons:
1) To ensure you have a copy of the game even if stores run out.

2) To support the game as it's being developed. Sort of as a "leg-up" to the company.

Collectors edition. I don't know exactly when but I do know that in the last few weeks the stores near me, and there's a lot, all stopped taking CE pre-orders for fear of inventory.

the point in preordering is in case they run out of copies(Which will happen) they still have a copy saved for you.

I'm going to buy it right now from Steam so I can play it first thing in the AM. I was going to go to a Brick and Mortar store tomorrow but I figure why clutter the desk with another disk :-)

Pre-ordered to get it cheaper.

Paid £25 delivered a day early, with the map (meh).

Funny thing was the disk was corrupted and useless so I had to download it from Steam anyway... But I've got the key in my Steam account now and the data on my HDD.

I preordered and it arrived 12 hours too early.

Had I known about Steam, I might not have ordered it at all.

As for why preorder, because the site I use allows preorder and it's easy to do (retail copies only).

I can't be bothered going to the shop?

"Would you like to pay an extra £X to insure your game?"

"Do you have a Game rewards card?"

"Do you want a Game rewards card?"

"If you buy this you can get this X copy of game at half price!"

Thirty minutes after queuing with smelly people, and going through this dialog, I leave with the game only to have to travel home to play it. With pre-ordering I can skip all the above and play it as soon as it drops through my letterbox, not one needless word has been spoken and no one has tried to sell me more things or fill my wallet with more useless plastic.

We preorder because we trust the company. We don't base our decision to buy this game on reviews. We preorder to show our support. Oh, and to us fans, that MAP is worth the pre-order.

I think a better question to ask would be why anyone wouldn't pre-order. If you have resolved to buy the game, why would you ever choose not to get a free map and assurance that the game will not sell out before you get a copy?

For those of us who happen to live in more populated areas, it's almost a necessity in order to ensure you'll get a copy on release day.

If a single call to pre-order will get you a free map, why not? That's a better question...
