Why did people pre-order?

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 10:40 am

I like to do it because it allows you to make small payments over a greater amount of time. I bought the collectors edition game and guide.. so that's about 180 bucks. But since I pre-ordered I went in once a month and just put 30 or 40 bucks down on the game. Now it's all payed off and I don't have to blow my entire entertainment budget on one thing.

That isn't a issue anymore, when is the last time you walked into a game store and they said, "sorry sold out". I have never had that happen. Also the huge market online now is easily accessible. Who runs out of copies these days on games, even major releases.
My game stop actually ran out of borderlands copies when I decided last minute to pick it up on launch, had to wait a week for restock.

OT: Aside from the early pre-load,so I can have the game paid off a couple months in advance and not have to wait until release.

Because if it somehow sold out and I had no way of getting it for another day or two, I'd lose it.

So other then the "Special" map why do people pre-order. All i have heard from people who pre-ordered there games either get them later. I hear more problems about it then anything else. Im just the guy who walks in at 12am or 1am and grab my copy and get out. Of course i live in a small area of ohio so no worries about not getting one. Again i am not bashing it im just wondering.

Edit- I understand the Steam reason but i dont understand the 360 or the PS3.
EBGames was offering a bunch of pre-order bonuses, namely a faux-leather-bound notebook with the Skyrim logo debossed on it, an embossed steelbook case (in addition to the normal plastic one), a few art cards, and a larger, fancier external box. Plus the special map.

We preorder because we trust the company. We don't base our decision to buy this game on reviews. We preorder to show our support. Oh, and to us fans, that MAP is worth the pre-order.
DAMN, i wish i had pre-ordered, forgot about the map, should be able to find one on ebay after a while anyways, maybe even a dragon statue

I mostly pre-order for the extra trade in bonus on Gears and Batman. Bought 2 fairly good console games and got a fantastic PC game for free.

Because it's Skyrim. Its one off the few games that I'll spend more than 3 days playing, and its a game that I sure as hell dont want to go down to the store all excited only to have them tell me they are sold out of (like they STILL are with bf3). That's why I pre-ordered as early as I could.

Sorry let me rephrase the questions lol. I understand the Steam but why the hard copies for like xbox 360 or PS3

So that we're guarenteed a copy on release day as some shops and online stores may sell out.

I preorderd and payed in advance to get the game on time and for respect for Bethesda. Preoders help publishers to plan their initial release.

But... my retailer told me that I get it one week later because Bethesda doesn't deliver the english version (I live in a german speaking country but can't stand dubbed games, crappy Internet at the moment so no language download with steam possible) in time.

So I learned my lesson and will never ever preorder again and I don't recommend it.

It's cheaper, you get a good quality map (better than just paper at least) and at least I got my pc version yesterday so everything is all preloaded and ready to go.

I preordered in Steam. No map!
I did it because I love TES games, and it was cheaper (Quakecon Bundle Pack discount! :D)

To get the map and other bonuses depending on the store, mine gave me a steelbook for free.

I preordered online from Amazon because i live out in the Wilds and thus it saves a trek to the nearest town. The saving in fuel costs makes it easily worthwhile.
Just checked my post hoping it was through this morning but nope. Ah well, tomorrow it is then.

Cheaper, guaranteed delivery, map bonus. My question is why wouldn't you pre order?

Preordered on Steam, doesn't get any easier. Don't have to worry about anything.

well I pre-ordered at the store, I don't trust the mail system to have it delivered on time.

I pre-ordered so that I'll be reasonably sure that I'll have a copy, stores in my area tend to sell out rather fast, sometimes there's not even enough for the pre-orders, so I've pre-ordered, and will be showing up in person at midnight to collect it, I'm not taking any chances.

CE is another thing, but regular copies of games seems pointless. Not that it is a hassle to pre order anything, just never seems to be a great incentive for me to pre-order games. I will usually just wait till it releases and then get it. Like Skyrim, I am waiting until tomorrow after work then go get a pre-paid visa card and get Skyrim on Steam.

I had that happen PLENTY of times, and with the TES games being one of my favs(plus been waiting for YEARS for this game) wasnt gonna stand for it, and the map sounds nice:)

I preordered on steam so I could get the preload and not have to worry about doing it on Friday. I don't plan to stay up all night to play a game even one as good as this one. I'm up at 4am or there about anyway so I'll unlock it then.
