Why did people pre-order?

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 12:56 pm

I like the assurance of knowing i have already paid for the game.

And if you pre purchase at my retailer they dont make you wait outside lol, you can come in and play on the consoles they have set up for 30 minutes or so.

We preorder because we trust the company. We don't base our decision to buy this game on reviews. We preorder to show our support. Oh, and to us fans, that MAP is worth the pre-order.

At the mid-night release at the walmart i work at The first couple people to come in get that map and so ever sense my walmart gets like 8 people at a midnight release im good. Again not messing with the map also im a huge fan (please dont consider me not a fan please.) Just saying i just hear to many times about pre-orders being turn around on people.

I always pre-order and have it delivered for a few reasons:
- you are guaranteed a copy
- you dont have to leave the house
- if you order form a reliable store you get the game a day (with Skyrim, 2 days :celebration: ) early

That isn't a issue anymore, when is the last time you walked into a game store and they said, "sorry sold out". I have never had that happen. Also the huge market online now is easily accessible. Who runs out of copies these days on games, even major releases.

CE is another thing, but regular copies of games seems pointless. Not that it is a hassle to pre order anything, just never seems to be a great incentive for me to pre-order games. I will usually just wait till it releases and then get it. Like Skyrim, I am waiting until tomorrow after work then go get a pre-paid visa card and get Skyrim on Steam.

I went to 5 Stores at around 11 AM on their re-stock day and Dead Island was sold out at all..

Im guessing its more of the region of choice. I live in a small area other people must live in big cities and im never used to that. The longest i ever waited in line for a game is 5 mins and heck once i just walked in grabbed my copy and paid and walked out. (I work at walmart so i get a discount on the game.) I now understand the CE game but something this big I would hope stores would have enough.

I pre-ordered because I knew I was going to buy it anyway, and this way Steam will have it ready for me when it releases.

So other then the "Special" map why do people pre-order. All i have heard from people who pre-ordered there games either get them later. I hear more problems about it then anything else. Im just the guy who walks in at 12am or 1am and grab my copy and get out. Of course i live in a small area of ohio so no worries about not getting one. Again i am not bashing it im just wondering.

Edit- I understand the Steam reason but i dont understand the 360 or the PS3.

Good, cause Steam is my reason.

I was the same way until I went the next day for dead island. It was sold out at all 3 gamestops, target, walmart best buy etc etc. I had to drive all the way downtown for a copy and I was lucky they only had 1 left. I imagine skyrim will be sold out as well because it has a bigger fanbase.

I pre-ordered because i was getting the Collector's Edition. My Gamestop only got enough CE's to cover the pre-orders, they did get some extra copies of the standard edition but no one is going to get a CE if they didn't pre-order it.

Even if that wasn't the case, I always pre-order new releases. I usually pay them off in full, it's just a convenience thing to me. I like walking in on launch and just getting my copy knowing there is defiantly one put aside for me and I don't have to lay out money on that day.

One other thing to note most retailers will base having a midnight release off of the number of pre-orders they have for the game. The more pre-orders the more likely that they will have a midnight launch at specific outlets.

EDIT: Total fail moment, thought I was editing my post, didn't mean to reply to myself :D :bolt:

I live in a densely populated area, so I, myself, do need to be concerned about unavailable copies. I preordered PS3 version.

Main reason was to insure I could get a copy of the CE before they ended up running out. Plus Amazon.com doesn't charge tax :)

There's -30% for the price of pre-ordered PC-versions. So it cost 15€ less than in store. That's the reason why I pre-ordered it.

I really want that map I have both Morrowind's map and Oblivion's map hanging on my wall, and I like to make sure even if I can't make the midnight release I will still have a copy in reserve.

I only pre-ordered so I can make sure I get my strat guide. I didn't know about the map, so I am glad I did pre order now.

When I got New Vegas, it was pre ordered because of the DLC. When I picked up the Strat guide, it was the last copy and the guy behind me want it, but I was thier before him. Want to make sure it doesn't happen for Skyrim. Also when I get them together, I get the strat guide 20% off.

I preordered because I figured if I didn't, I wouldn't get it around release time.

As it stands - I just got this email:

We regret to advise that due to unforeseen circumstances, our online fulfillment centre did not receive its full allocation of Skyrim in time to ship for release. Unfortunately, we do not now expect delivery until the 18th of November.

:o

[censored].

So I've made a reservation to collect....they'd better have one for me!!!!!

I preorder for a couple of reasons. I preorder so I can get the bonus that is going to come with preordering,it allows me to reserve a copy of the game, it allows me to pay it off in small amounts ahead of time instead of trying to pay it all at once. This allows me plan for getting multiple games while only spending a small amount each paycheck. I have already paid off the collector's edition for both the game and guide of skyrim thanks to preorders, as well as paying off FF13-2 and parts of ME3 and Kingdoms of reckoning. None of the last three games are out until 2012 and I am already on my way to paying most of them off.

it might actually be harder to give a reason for not preordering, You don't lose any money over it and you can cancel your order if you change your mind later.

My pre-orders always come a day early, and it's cheaper than steam, but allows me to play at the same time as people who order off steam. There really is no downside, I've never had any problems with pre-ordering, neither have any of the people I play with.

Sorry let me rephrase the questions lol. I understand the Steam but why the hard copies for like xbox 360 or PS3

Your logic doesn't seem very sound. You're confused as to why people would pre-order finite copies of physical game discs, but you can understand why people would pre-order literally infinite copies of the digitally distributed game. No, I can't see any fallacies in that, no sir.
