Why Does Bethesda Push the Player Towards the Stormcloaks So

Post » Sun May 27, 2012 5:50 am

it really depends on how u see things. if u follow the in-game lore, then no1 can defeat a dragon besides a dragonborn. as the stormcloaks have a dragonborn AND his pet dragon... im pretty sure the aldmeri dont stand much of a chance

if u follow common sense, it would seem like any old pack of guards can defeat a dragon and a dragonborn was barely needed except for alduin.

my guess is the game takes the pure lore version where dragons are unstoppable creatures except for the dragonborn and with that being said, skyrim would do fine against the aldmeri as long as the guilds and the dragonborn are helping.

That's incorrect. Anyone can defeat a dragon however only a Dragonborn can absorb the dragons soul and learn shouts with ease. For a normal person, like the Greybeards it takes a lifetime of dedication to learn what a Dragonborn can learn in a few days.

The Blades, as stated in the load screens, were well renowned for being dragon slayers before the became the Emperors guards. They, just like a hoard of guards, are able to kill a dragon just like the Dragonborn can, only difference is that when it dies, you absorb it's soul and can learn to shout. If they wanted to shout it would take them years to learn even the simplest works.

Basically being Dragonborn doesn't make you some kind of super hero, it just means you're able to lean a new language quickly! Who needs Rosetta Stone when you have dragon blood! :teehee:

I actually thought Bethesda did a good job of keeping it fairly even, with neither side coming across as being good or bad. A lot of Nords support the Imperials - which fairly promptly dispels the evil invaders cliché.

The intro sequence did seem to favour the Stormcloaks slightly, but I felt this was kind've balanced out by the Jarl of Whiterun (Imperial supporter) who most players are likely to interact with quite a lot early on.
