except P2P months means all or nothing, so you are paying for a lot of things, some of which you might not use.

People who are posting this only played GW2 for a couple weeks to a couple months....the content updates are packed, with very high quality and fun stuff. I actually have been playing since launch so I know.
Even worse is the games that do $1 for this key that opens a chest that has random loot.
I can buy lottery tickets and my local convenience store if thats what i wanted....no thanks.
ESO is a game with integrity.
I laughed because I remember people saying the same thing on the SWTOR and Rift forums before those games came out
another reason I hated it was because we would be grouped with some one who was on a timed play time allowing them 3 hours inside the dungeon we was in and he was booted after his 3 hr timer ran out and we was at the final boss!
he was our tank and we all died cvause his P2P timer ran out !
rediculas
just stick with free or Pay to Play .. don't mix in all these other complications for payment methods. just please don't do it
Hmm, I'm not sure about this thread being the main subscription talk thread. I just wanted to focus on one method of keeping the game going.
First of all, I'm not talking about F2P. Everybody playing has at least paid the $60. That attracts a completely different kind of player.
If the new content is good enough, then there should be problem finding enough people to group with.
And no silly restrictions like timers and paying for loot.
I paid to play SWTOR til i got tired of it. I disliked the endgame so i stopped paying. I dont hate SWTOR or Bioware and will try there future products.
Neverwinter is a F2P game that i spent more money on than i wanted to and got nickeled and dimed and quit due to that...i now distrust Perfect world and wont give them anymore money on future games.
My point: Make a good product and people will pay for it. No need for trickery, or decpetion or "milking".
ESO wont fail because it has a sub, SWTOR didnt fail because it had a sub...it was just not that much fun for long term gameplay.
What do you mean, nope? You flat out said that this game was going to be F2P. You were wrong. Now, again, you claim to know the future. You can only cry wolf so many times before people ignore your calls of danger.
All the games you list that failed were WoW clones. ESO is not. You can not know if it will fail. Try having a little faith. There is no reason to think that it will fail.
But it does not mean that B2P games are crap. Does it?
I am not saying it is going to be another Swtor, but What is going on here sounds very familiar to what was going on about Swtor before it was released. People were expecting it to be the next big thing, a WOW killer. Everyone was saying that P2P was worth it, that it was going to have updates all the time, and all this other stuff kept being said and promised. For people who say that zenimax is not EA: People said the same thing about Bioware, that is was still separate enough to be fare, whenever people mentioned it they were told "Bioware is not like EA." Swtor was not supposed to be another WOW clone either.
lets get some maths using British sterling (assumptions), shall we:
- lets say TESO costed £64m (roughly 100m dollars) to make
- lets say they will sell 1m on PC launch at the price of PC £40 per box - (the 1million sales based on http://www.statisticbrain.com/skyrim-the-elder-scrolls-v-statistics/ )
- we know one month fee is £8.99
- lets say 3 month sub is £25.47
- lets say 6 month sub is £47.94
- lets say they keep 75% of player base after 1 month (we all know it drops)
- and for maths sake lets say all 750000 pick all 3 options(not all at once)
time to recoup the initial cost for:
£40m(box sales) + (1 month sub) £6,742,500 - They would recoup the initial cost 5 months after launch, cause first month is free of sub
£40m + £19,102,500 - they would recoup the initial cost when the second 3m sub was up to renew, so 4 months after launch
£40m + £35,955,000 - they would recoup after 1 month
isn't wow nickle and dime now, isn't Eve nickle and dime as well
just cause its P2P it doesnt mean they dont do it as well
Oh it isn't is it? Lol......it's so funny to see history repeating itself over and over again. Even in the fandom of completely different MMO forums. It always starts and ends exactly the same.
Pre launch: This is a totally different game, it'll do awesome.
Launch: Omg this game is awesome I'll play it forever
1 month in: All these bugs...ugh. What am I paying them a sub for?
3 months in: Okay so I've been playing the same content for months now...when will I have something new
5 months in: Ooh look at this new MMO that's coming out next month!!! Can't wait to play it.
7 months: Neat, TESO is going F2P....too bad, not interested any more.
I'm not guessing here...just stating what's happened with the past 5 "premium MMOs."
Trust me I have played GW for months. I just started recently because I just retired. I have never had any problems with anyone in game. Everyone is polite and they don't cause problems for everyone else. After I get all of my Guild Wars 2 points for items then I will purchase Guild Wars 2.
B2P can be good..i liked GW2. But P2P is much better in the long run.
Only argument i have is the 15 a month. I think if ZoS would do a 10 a month sub it would be perfect.
Heck Netflix charges 8/month and made more money due to more subs
that svcks soo badly that your right .. I hope this wont happen
which is perfect .. I just hope this is what happens in ESO
Anyone can that do that numbers game. How do you know that ESO cost this much or that much? They made a nice profit on Skyrim without a sub.
Careful No_Walking you ignorance is showing.
Anyone who even remotely claims that ESO is a wow clone has totally invalidated himself in my book.
how is he showing ignorance?
what hes saying is truth in what ive seen in mmo's history
It is just my word. I don't know of anyone else who did have a problem in game. If they did have a problem they should report it. Don't matter what the payment model I would not like a bad crowd in any game that you have pay money for.
Just saying what's happened with the past like 6 "next big MMOs" buddy. TESO will be no different.
ESO is nowhere near a WoW clone guys. Seriously. It is an entirely different game. The only thing it shares with WoW are things that have been around longer than WoW.
Whether it fails or not is a different point.
Paying for content would be my preferred method as well. As far as I can tell, not developer has tried this yet.
I'd like to see a pure "Pay for Content" scheme. No cash shop. No subscription. You pay $60 for the game. Then when they release new content you choose whether or not to purchase it. Either way the content that you originally paid $60 for should still be available to you. If they are going to release $15 worth of content every month, then people will pay them for that content. If they are going to release $20 of content every 3 months, that's how much people should pay and how often.
I'm not totally against this sub thing. I'm still gonna play the game. I can kinda see why they're doing it. I think it might even be better than a cash shop model. But I think there are better ways.
