So, on top of the fact that you are sure ESO will fail, you are also calling it a WoW clone?
Seriously?
This is your experience. Not everyone's. You have no clue why anyone stayed or left any MMO ever.
BTW, I find it funny that at 7 months, you say, "TESO is going F2P....too bad, not interested any more." So, in your own words, even if the game is F2P you would not keep playing it, if you got bored.
So, even you admit, you did not leave because of the money, it was the quality of the game.
Remember that everyone is entitled to share their opinion within these forums. Let's keep the discussion civil.
Thanks!
Did anybody else read the part of the article where they said they'd have time cards you can buy, which I assume is for people who only play about 2-4 hours a day, or was I just imagining things?
Then why are you caring about an MMO? Wait for TES6.
If you're going to make up numbers at least try and use the same number. Is it 3 past failed MMOs or 6 or 5? Next page it'll probably be 10 past failed MMOs.
Well because it is a dream for some in the TES community to play the game online together. So why can't he?
thats PC numbers only. £40 is the normal for a regular box, most of the money they made for Skyrim was on consoles, and i dont own one so i dont know its prices.
and i based the 1m box sales for PC on this page - http://www.statisticbrain.com/skyrim-the-elder-scrolls-v-statistics/ - 14% is around 980,000
The only MMO to come out recently that didn't have massive number losses, massive complaints, or massive exoduses is.....wait for it....GW2!
Maybe it's because a company decided to come out with quality updates every 2 weeks (not 4-6 like every other mmo), and not charge anything other than the box price. Soooo sad to see another great franchise make a terrible mistake
Nobody said he can't play. They are saying he can't play for free. Gaming is a luxury. Luxury is not free sometimes.
So, all the other F2P games failed too? And GW2 is pretty new still. And sales fell dramatically the last quarter. And a ton of people have left the game.
So.... you were saying?
The real question is this: When you pay for an MMO, what are you paying for? Is an MMO simply a product or is it also a service?
I think that it is both. It is a premade product which you play as is. But, also, it is a product which comes with services like customer service, multiplayer interaction, and developer interaction of some form. So, in this sense, you are paying for a product and some services. And, as such, a purchase price and a subscription fee seems like a logical price tag. That is, for a good quality MMO.
Don't think that an MMO provides a service worthy of a subscription fee? Then vote with your wallet and don't pay for the said MMO. It's your judgment, your choice, and your money.
However, confusion entered this equation when widespread disatisfaction over MMO services became a rallying cry for free stuff. Players in general haven't been satisfied with what existing MMO services were providing them. But, this dissatisfaction became the norm and people just stopped being willing to pay subscriptions for MMO serivces. So, companies adapted to this dissatisfaction and duped people into using cash shops and other microtransactions in their so-called "free to play" or "buy to play" MMOs in order to stay in business.
The moral of the story? Either way, as an MMO player, you must pay for your MMOs' services. You're not getting free stuff.
Not imagining things. It's just that people don't like to read articles, or else there wouldn't be this topic as the question has been answered by Firor in that interview.
"The Elder Scrolls games are all about allowing the player to go where they want, be who they want, and do what they want. We feel that putting pay gates between the player and content at any point in game ruins that feeling of freedom, and just having one small monthly fee for 100% access to the game fits the IP and the game much better than a system where you have to pay for features and access as you play."
Ya know, if Tera and SWTOR were the only 2 major titles to go from P2P to F2P then thats not all that bad. Tera had over a year of sucess as a sub-model and SWTOR had 6 months(?)
Plus SWTOR still has a sub and a loyal fanbase that pay the sub.
LOL......no

P2P is just a money grab.... ZO already has a F2P backup plan all ready to go I bet. Gonna milk the subs for as long as they can, and after many players leave, then go F2P so they have a reason to slow down content updates. I was so hoping this wouldn't happen with this game
If you read that report, sales were up the first three quarters.....
http://massively.joystiq.com/category/guild-wars-2/ accounted for 21% of sales in the first quarter, in addition to http://massively.joystiq.com/category/blade-and-soul 9%, http://massively.joystiq.com/category/aion 16%, and the usual http://massively.joystiq.com/category/lineage cavalcade (Lineage 1 represented 38% of sales alone with its subscriptions).
While 64% of NCsoft's sales were in Korea, only 13% were in North America and 8% in Europe. The decrease in NA and EU contributions was due to "the reduction in Guild Wars 2 package sales," according to the report. All of NCsoft's subsidiaries posted drops in sales from last quarter except for NC Taiwan.

Well you were 100% sure ESO was going to be free to play, so we know how good your bets are, don't we.
Just like you are sure ESO is a WoW clone, right?
STO, DCUO, Rift, tera, Aion are all AAA P2P games that went F2P in about 2-3 years, and those are just recent ones off the top of my head. They might still be doing well, but they also still went F2P.
If sales go down from last quarter, but up from last year, it's called a rising trend buddy. Emphasis on the word RISING. Look at this image, notice the ups and downs, but with the overall direction being up.

Good to see you actually linking sources now though, for the first time I'm impressed
lol no. There was indeed a mass exodus a Month after GW2 came out because its a boring zerg fest game that isn't fun and has no longevity. There was a mass exodus, I know because I was a part of it. and besides you can't really even tell how many left anyways because there is no subs so who knows. Only tangible thing we can see is lots empty worlds with hardly anyone playing anymore.
Noone is really responding to the OPs suggestion.
Charging for new content (like DLCs) is a bad idea because it would make new content optional and that would cause different players to have different content accessible. People would no longer be able to play together.
Another Issue at hand here is the difference between Western and Eastern gaming cultures.
There is a noticeable difference between what each group gravitates towards as a whole. This applies to how we spend our money as well.
they are probably going to charge for DLC anyway, that is what most MMO's do.
