With Crysis2 coming to the PS3 also what will crytak do with

Pretty much, the ps3 can't use bigger textures due to (more than 360 incidentally) limited vRAM.
Actually, the PS3 has 256MB of vRAM on the RSX and 256MB of XDR system RAM. It can also pool up to 224MB of system RAM, shared from the CPU (total of 480MB for video). The 360 on the other hand has a dedicated 512MB of GDDR3 system RAM and 512MB on the Xenos GPU. :)

Almost, but not quite....

The PlayStation 3 has 256 MB of XDR DRAM main memory and 256 MB of GDDR3 video memory for the RSX, yes, that's right, but...

The Xbox 360 pools all its resources from 512MB GDDR3, that both the system AND the GPU share. Shared memory. The Xbox and the PS3 both have 512 MB's of RAM/VRAM.

Effectively, they basically have the same amount of RAM and VRAM. Streaming technologies are used to get over RAM limitations as well, as seen in Killzone 2 which consistently featured 1024x1024 environment textures and even 1024x1024 POM ground textures, as well as POM decals from bullet holes.

What`? This thread still goes on ?
Whats the point?

We all got it now: Pcs are the strongest gaming machines and consoles are outdated.

The PS3 maybe is the strongest console and will maybe look second best.
( But the gap between Pc and Ps3 will obviously be as huge as the grand canyon)

So what is there still to discuss?

@ Sonyguy..
Are you sure you dont work for Sony ( marketing or something)?

You are right, there is not much to discuss...

PC > PS3 > Xbox360 > Wii

No matter how you look at it, Consoles is the nr 1 market for games atm.
I hope they will use every bit of my ps3 possible.

I remember at the end of the ps2 the console was making a lot of noise just to run a game.
Lets hope Crysis2 will do the same (whitout the noise)

Recently i played Crysis for the first time on a medium/high end pc and DAMM that looked awesome!

If it`s a better game then that in any way them i`m more then happy.

Oh thats terribly wrong!

Games in general are a very huge thing on the Pc.
Its possible that some games sell more on consoles but i dont think you cant ignore the numbers of steam games that are sold also WOW Users and many browser game players.I think when comes to how much gamers in general using which platform... i think the Pc would win big time.

And please dont compare Crysis 1 on Pc to Crysis 2 console.
Crysis 2 is a almost completely different game now and not only by using a totally different setting. (In my opinion the city setting is mainly a decision to have a logical limitation of the draw distance so that consoles can handle it. If it would have been a jungle or a forrest again there would be no "excuse" for dissapearing trees and a very limited draw distance.)

Crysis 1 with its beautiful landscape and amazing grfx will never run properly on one of the actual consoles. Maybe the next generation will be powerful enough.
Because for Crysis 1, Crytek didnt limit anything...it was made with almost no compromises.I personally hope that sony and microsoft will release a new gen. of consoles soon. The stagnation of grfx and the used tech. gets more and more obvious and even causes stagnation for the games released on pc.

We can talk about farmville all day, yes when you look at it that way youre right.
I think you and i look at things different in many ways.

Why do you think this game cant compare to crysis? its called crysis2 so it must be the of the same quality or better, this is the part where i think positive and the same whit a editor, i think positive and hope they can pull it off.

Have you played Uncharted 2?

A next gen console would be great for both ends of the spectrum and the entire industry.
It would boost the pc in to gear, good point.
The pc will always be ahead and thats no shame for the consoles.
I compare the games that i play whit ps2 and you look at it from a pc player pov.

You seem like a smart person, maybe you can make the draw distance work on a console?
If we all think nothing can work we will still be playing pong these days...

My point is 'keep a open mind'

I have played all the "great" exclusives for the Ps3. Uncharted 1 and 2, God of war 3, Heavy rain..etc. All more or less good games. But most of them are on the same technical level. The ps3 hardware is limited... the biggest bottleneck is the small amount of ram. For the next generation they should use a grfxchip based on the Nvidia fermi chipset with at least 1024 GB ram for the grfx and 4 GB ram for the whole system.
A common intel quadcore chipset will do a fine job for a processor ( away with the stupid Cell powerpc b**s*h*it). So then we will see Crysis 1 Full hd on a console (Ps4?)But the current limitations are "real" and there are games in this world who just wont run on this 4 year old hardware. Only because Sony still praises the Ps3 to heaven doesnt replace the old hardware.

For Crysis 2:
A city is a different setting and the specific terrain defines the gameplay.
Crysis 1 mostly had wide areas ..Crysis 2 will have street canyons which limit your movement ( but vertical gameplay will be possible). crysis 2 is confirmed to be more scripted and will have more action in it... but i will miss the exploring of an island.

So compare Red dead redemption to Gta 4. Then you will see how the same gameplay ideas work in different settings. RDR isn GTA 4 and the other way round the same.

The PS3 specs are as good as a good PC. Almost a great PC. In 2006, it was way ahead of its time.

(It would be fun to fight at Ground Zero, Crytek. But very sad).

Even in 2007 PC's blew the PS3 away. That's when Crysis came out.

@ Ultimarage

+1000!!

@Klimatic

Who told you something stupid like that?
Like Ultima said,,, the ps3 is outdated since early 2007.
Its technically nowhere near a 700 Euro Pc right now.
And lightyears away from todays highend Quadcore/ Fermi combination- Pcs.
