Quest Bug: One for my Baby

This quest can bug such that when the player is told to investigate the lobby of the Novac hotel for clues as to Boone's wife's disappearance and gets the Bill of Sale from the safe, the hotel's proprietor doesn't respond at all. That is, she has no new dialogue options and there's no way to get her to come out front of the dinosaur so Boone can shoot her. I fixed this by reloading a save before I stole the Bill of Sale and then she worked fine. I am not sure if this is randomly triggered or what but I Googled it and several people have had the exact same issue.

Hello there, I'm new to the forum but I thought I'd make a contribution to the bug list.

I just encountered this bug, and it won't seem to go away even though I reloaded a save I made before I encountered it.

It happened when at the Cerulean factory when I was doing a quest: Went up to the computer terminal to use it, and instead of getting a computer terminal screen I ended up with a "black" screen that looks like the backdrop of the world map in the middle. I reloaded my save, and it still does it. Now I've learned that it also applies to when I use any terminal, pick a lock, and even when I try to zoom in with a sniper rifle through a scope. The end result is always the same, I get the black backdrop and I can see a fraction of what is "really" supposed to be going on... ex. lockpicking I see just the screwdriver handle moving around.

I have the black screen and I never was at said factory

I have a glitch where I cannot aim or turn on the x-axis with the left thumbstick. This is the most annoying glitch, and I don't wanna have to reload my pretty old save... It's not my controller, because it still moves the cursor on the Pip-Boy map.

This is actually a bug known by bethesda, see http://support.gamesas.com/eng/faqlist.asp?sid=143422101024173173052197&pid=400000953&pnm=Fallout%3A+New+Vegas&seid=400002571&pos=Xbox+360&top=Game+Controller their "fix" consists of just resetting to an earlier save but if its something they're aware of at least you know it will get fixed eventually.

Last night while playing I encountered a Giant Rad-scorpion with a health bar that would not deplete regardless of how many times I shot him, threw sticks of dynamite at him, used vats mode etc...
Thinking this one of the many bugs I've encountered I immediately reloaded my last save, only to encounter the same problem again in the exact same spot (somewhere near Good Springs cemetery).
Initially his health bar is full, but after I start shooting him it shows as empty and stays that way even though he's not taking any damage whatsoever. As you would suspect he inevitably chases me down and kills me because I CANT DO ANY DAMAGE TO HIM!!

If you're encountering him really early in the game they're nearly invulnerable to your attacks, you need perks + stats + anti-armor guns. However after having all those things if the scorpion still takes no damage it is indeed a bug. Also note that early in the game you're kind of corraled to the south of goodsprings then east / north to NV once you've gained some decent weapons and levels the world opens up for exploration.

Hi all, just joined the forums to mention a couple of issues I've been having. Love the game but it is disappointing to see so many problems. However at least the guys seem to be working as hard as possible to sort them out.

Anyway, two problems I have had so far:

  • Hacking terminals - I think this may be down to me having remapped my controls. I have to click B to hack a terminal and when I do, the terminal screen will not load up unless I hold B down continuously. If I let go of B the terminal screen disappears and all I can see is a blurred background until I press B again to exit the view. It took me a while to figure this out, but since I have, I can repeat it every time - it comes down to needing to hold B rather than just pressing B to get into the terminal. It's not a gamebreaker once you know how to get around it, but it is annoying.
  • Selling items - I went on a stealing spree in Goodsprings and intentionally overburdened myself with a whole lot of things, including burned/scorched books, Iron, Vacuum Cleaner, and a few other bits. I got rid of some of the stuff by selling to Trudy, Chet and the Doc, but I still have a ton of items - including those listed above - in my inventory that will not appear in my "sell list" when I try to sell to those people I listed above. I can of course just drop them but it's annoying that I can't sell them to gain a few caps.

Hopefully these things can be added to their fix list, though I appreciate they won't be top priority. :fallout:

The terminal bug you describe sounds like the Pip-Boy Black screen, but you may have figured a work around with the controls. I know there are a lot of bugs combined with remapping your controller. Including VATS not working. As for Selling Items see http://support.gamesas.com/eng/resolution.asp?sid=143422101024173173052197&pid=400000953&pnm=Fallout%3A+New+Vegas&seid=400002571&pos=Xbox+360&top=Gameplay&rid=400003369. This is a known bug by Bethesda when attempting to sell stolen items to the same faction they were taking from they wont appear in your list. Something that will be patched and i'd wager already is patched on the PC. XBox gets the short end of the stick with patches.

I experienced a glitch during One for My Baby. No-Bark tells you to look for the evidence, which is in Jeannie May Crawford's safe. I get the Bill of Sale, put on the beret, and walk her in front of the dinosaur. He shoots her, and I go up to talk to Boone. He asks me how I know and I have no option to give him the Bill of Sale.

I had a music issue during the mission from Novac where I check on the nearby ranger station. Upon entering the ranger station there were a few things that caused instant death and a reload of an autosave. The music wouldn't stop playing into the next reload, but also a new instance of the music would begin playing. After several deaths, There ended up being multiple instances of the same radio station playing, just offset by the amount of time I took me to die again. I counted up to 4 separate instances of the same song offset by a 30-60 seconds. It was weird.

I also had an issue where I visited a main town (not sure what its called, east of the starting town where there are lots of signs of warning about death claws) and upon entering the town, there is a single death claw and lots of named and unnamed dead npcs. It didn't seem right to me that named NPCs should be dead before I even had a chance to meet them. Luckily the deathclaw killed me instantly and I reloaded to a previous save. I didn't go back there, but I'm sure that town is still a dead town killed by a wandering deathclaw that is far stronger than any of the NPCs in that town.

I've found instances where NPCs will be "floating" several feet off the ground and moving like they are on the ground.

Radscorpions no longer have faces to shoot. Not so much of a bug as an oversight from the previous game. I have yet to figure out how to effectively take them down even with entomologist. I end up using entire runs of ammo (200+ bullets) just to take a single scorpion down on normal difficulty. Maybe I am just doing something wrong, but there aren't many places to shoot at that aren't heavily armored or ineffective. I should point out I'm using a service rifle mostly. Haven't tried lasers or heavy weapons yet.

Along the lines of creatures, there are these dragonfly looking things that I cannot seem to kill at all. VATS says 95% chance to hit on body, head, etc, but when I activate, nothing hits them. I've tried this many times now and they seem to be immune. I've also tried shooting them outside of VATS (which is pointless in NV for some reason... didn't have this much trouble in FO3, but whatever) and even when I get a hit, their health doesn't seem to go down. I don't know what the deal is. Again service rifle.

One other thing that isn't really a bug, but has annoyed me with Oblivion, FO3 and now NV is the lack of a periodic autosave. Often times, especially in the beginning, things are far stronger than you and you will unknowingly walk into situations where you are greatly outmatched and can easily be outrun and killed. Then, you die and go back to when... a half hour ago save that was the last door you exited. I never understood why a 5-10 minute periodic autosave would be such a tough thing to put into said games and why it's not standard in this day and age (including games that aren't gamesas related). I guess it would have to make sure you weren't "in combat" before autosaving, but thats pretty simple as the game engine mechanics are already in place. It just makes exploring not fun by punishing players to do so. My perception level in NV is about 7 and most of the time, I dont even see enemies before they know I'm there. And reaver ghouls can easily outrun you and kill you long before you can harm them to any great extent early in the game. Anyway, needing to save manually every few minutes takes away from the "adventure" and I typically forget to do so in a timely fashion.

I have also experienced misc. problems with the radio stations, including a constant static messup that sounds like choppy/jumbled music. Do you have a location on the Floating NPC's? As for the Deathclaw that wipes the town out that's most likely a bad spawn location, I think a lot of enemy mobs have semi-random spawn points in relation to you. Just last night I had a pack of agressive Bighorner's inside the CRNCF prison. Was nice though I could shoot at them through the fence for free xp. For all Radscorpions its good to have anti-armor bullets and high dps weapons with multiple shots (like a rifle) The Cazadore are high level bugs that can be a pain, VATS is terrible at shooting things that get really close to you, so things that get to you in like 3sec its worthless for. I'd suggets a shotgun or maybe machine gun / LMG with hp bullets for them, also they're a higher lvl mob so dont waste your time early on them. Finally if you find yourself being chased by overpowered enemies you might try the Tiger run tactic and move in a /\/\/\/\/\/\/\ left/right pattern I've found on things faster than you moving like that tends to make their attack miss, also holster your weapon if you're not using a pistol as that can slow you down. If you still die just reload to an earlier save and avoid the area. Hope all that helped =D

some of these are repeats, some aren't:

the game crashed when i opened the door to the mirror field at helios one. twice.

after a third attempt, i made it into the field, and then it started getting choppy and jumpy. that soon ironed itself out, only to have the sound get super screwy (technical term) and sound like someone was hitting mute and un-mute repeatedly. then it just crashed again.

another glitch upon entering that field is that about 10 dogs start leaving the door and piling (heh. dog pile.) up on each other for no reason. the other thing that happens is about 15 barrels fall out of the sky onto me!

the arms raising to the top of the screen thing is still happening.

npc's occasionally just walk knee deep in the ground. which is fun, but then they can't get anywhere you need them to. (example: not too much of a spoiler.. the captain in the office park doing his duty with me as back-up, couldn't get into the building he was heading toward because he was stuck.)

i found a radscorpion pinned vertically to a rock, still alive. it was neat because i thought maybe the legion crucified a radscorp, but then it started crawling down into the ground.

and once out of every.. maybe 15 times, i'll be in vats and my guy won't shoot a single shot, which results in never coming out of vats. he just stands there until he gets shot to death, taking it like a champ. albeit in slow-mo, which looks funny.. but annoying if i'm in the waste and haven't auto-saved or manually saved in a good stretch. i understand a good fix for this is to manually save more, but i shouldn't *have* to rely on saving for a game not to glitch me literally to death.

in the strip.. i confronted benny, survived the ambush, went to his suite, and talked to yes-man. upon taking the elevator to the subbasemant and investigating, i leave to come back up (btw, neither ed-e nor veronica follow me down) and the game crashes..

another new thing as well: npcs are now just falling down whenever i jump around them. although funny, not conducive to a fun gaming experience in terms of pushing the story forward.

added Mirrors field problems, npcs falling through the ground when jumping around them, and vats locking up the player. the crash in the strip is hard to say its specific to that area.

I am stuck in my room at the Atomic Wrangler. My save allows me in my room and plays normally up until I open the door. It then crashes every single time.

Any mods to the weathered 10mm pistol makes the gun disappear, a haze comes over the screen, and a weird sound buffer on most of the sounds in the game

similar to the weathered 10mm pistol-silencer bug I bought a laser sight mod for my weathered 10mm pistol and also had a visual problem once it was attached, my whole screen had a bright hue to it and when I was in 1st person I couldnt see the gun, but but my hands were still in the gun-holding position

Hello everyone. I encounter a bug when I travel to towns with ED-E. Whenever I enter a town it takes about 1 or 2 min for the npc's to start attacking ED-E even though my reputation is idolized. ED-E doesn't even fight back when the the townsfolk attack him. I haven't gotten any other companions yet so I can't be sure if it happens to all of them.

Yea, you can try clearing your cache by holding R/L Bumpers and X while the game is loading. You might also try contacting Bethesda Tech support directly, this is the most problems i've seen by any one person. Almost sounds like your entire game was destroyed. Semi-rare but honestly not surprising.

Just a guess but ED-E doesnt happen to have faction army in its inventory by chance does it? Like Powder Ganger something or NCR armor? Also what town? Goodsprings?

He keeps asking me for proof. I guess I'll just leave the quest unfinished until I level up enough to be able to convince him with Speech.

I've experienced loads of the 'usual' bugs-rocks floating in mid-air, nine Giant Radscorpians spawining next to each other and flying around the map etc etc but just bumped into an absolute gamer-breaker. I've played for about seven hours and found the Prospectors Den, went in, looted like a lunatic and was very happy with everything. But, when I exited back into the Wasteland, a Radscorpian had trapped itself in a collection of boulders, the sky rained down the body parts of the gang members I had killed (almost like a really late load or something) and then the game just freezes. I can't do anything then apart from restarting my xbox! I've registered just to add this in to the ever-growing list of complaints about this game-how can they possibly release something this unfinished/unchecked? This is the one game me and my friends were talking about all summer and now its just a massive disappointment. After Obsidian released a buggy, unfinished KOTOR 2 and now this, I think I'll give them a miss from now on!

I have another game-breaker. Well, I can play all I want, I just can't ever beat the game.

I received both House Always Wins, I and House Always Wins, II quests. One requires taking the platinum chip to House, and one activating it at Fortification Hill. Well I got the chip and brought it to Mr. House. He updated his robots. I then left to do other things. Upon returning to speak with Mr. House, he now just says "Go to Foritification Hill," trying to get me to do House Always Wins II even though I completed House Always Wins I. Therefore I can never beat the game, because I already gave the platinum chip to Mr House, and he refuses to acknowledge it. I tried murdering him, but again there is nothing to do because the platinum chip is gone forever.

I have a HUGE glitch on my 360. I am on my way to the strip form Caesars camp and every time I attempt to enter the strip the game crashes. I have cleared the cache, deleted saves, emptied my inventory, completed other quests, and reloaded and retried at least 40 times. I can go no further with the main quest with out getting into the strip. Now as disappointment sets in I have an $80 paperweight.

I got the warranty so I brought back my game after loads of freezing, lock-ups, and a few disc unreadable. On my second disc of the game and I got another disc unreadable. Not sure if this is a bug or not but I find it hard to believe I get two bad discs in a row and considering if I reload the game it allows me to do whatever I was trying to do when I got the pop-up so it looks like that's a bug for me in my game.
