Your reasons for going to join the imperial legion

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 6:36 pm

I am debating whether to join the legion or the stormcloaks. I am leaning more towards the legion rather than the stormcloaks but I need a few good reasons.
So any reasons you can think of or your own reasons for joining the imperial legion would be greatly appreciated!
Killing all of them. :)

I'll be joining Stormcloaks on my first character. I actually don't agree with their views -- I think that their idea of a "free" Skyrim is juvenile and overly idealistic and it's gonna cause an even greater crisis if they push out the Empire -- but, the way I see it, thousands are gonna die no matter what. If the Empire isn't strong enough to keep Skyrim's citizens in check, it won't be strong enough to protect it when it needs protecting, either from opposing forces or dragons. At least with the Stormcloaks, we've got a shot at a more efficient system, and if I've gotta die in battle, I'd rather die for a free Skyrim than to reinforce a dying government.

I wont join factions willy nilly, i will want to soak up the atmosphere in towns & the feeling/vibe about what is going on, before i decide who to join or not.

Alot of you people's argument is that the empire svcks cause they have no divine Aid. That just reinforces how Badass there emperors are! Titus mede took control of the empire with 1000snd men and NO Divine Aid thats pretty Badasss in my book!

My orc will be joining the Legion because she figures a strong empire is more likely to result in a good deal for her people than the reemergence of petty kingdoms.

My Imperial will be joining the empire because the Stormcloaks killed the high king. Also, the Stormcloaks are a bunch of Nord Supremacists

I was going to join the Imperial Legion, but I am unsure now, given its pretty well known that they are about to execute you at the start. Why would you want to join them after that?, can't find a way to square it in my mind.

My character is a bit of a bastard, but still stands for what he believes to be good. So for that reason the Imperial Legion kind of suits him.

Suppose it depends on the character I pick. I can see pros and cons with both sides. If I do indeed go Nord though I'll of course be on the side of the stormcloaks.

What's more important to you: personal freedom or equality? "Both" is not an option.

Personal freedom, since the latter is not possible. Everyone is equal, but some are more equal than others. It's just not possible, especially not with diverse cultures.

One mans freedom fighter is another mans terrorist. This seems a pretty accurate proverb to describe your choice in Skyrim. I am actually sort of glad I have five more days to make up my mind!

Imagine: If the American Revolution had failed, George Washington would be viewed as one of the greatest terrorists of all time.

Back on topic: It all comes down to opinion, and arguing over it before the game is released won't solve anything.

FOR LIBERTY! FOR THE STORMCLOAKS!

^ This ^ Though, thats just my plan now, I may change my mind 100 times before the end.. But I've always been kinda partial to the rebellion, & I'll be playing an Orc so the more fight the better.

Total freedom is just as far-fetched as total equality. The only way to achieve that would be through the complete dissolution of society.
Total equality demands conformation through laws that restrict personal liberties, resulting in a totalitarian society.
Neither scenario is very appealing, IMO.

My character is the son of a disgraced Legion Officer. He was caught fleeing into Skyrim, his near execution made him realise that running won't bring back his family's prestige and honour and so he joins the Legion once he's been freed. To renew the tradition of honourable service in the Legion.

I don't think we know enough details about the situation in Skyrim to make an informed and intelligent decision about which faction to join.

The legion is already an establishment, no need to implement it or build it up, which the Stormcloaks require. Since it is already in place, I will be joining them due to the easier access to riches, rank and power. The Stormcloaks don't seem very organised, plus they aren't in power yet. Getting them into power would mean a longer and more stressful wait before I gain wealth and power. I can assist the Empire by crushing the Stormcloaks, thus proving myself for merits. I am pretty sure the legion work on mertitocracy, so the more I do for the legion, the more gold fills my pockets.

If we join either the Stormcloaks or the Legion, will you get attacked by the other one if you go into a town they control?

Hopefully not. At least not until late in the main quest.
I'd like to run some quests for both to get a feel for each faction. Maybe even betray one for the other.

I hope not as well. Maybe wearing the armour of that particular faction will get you automatically attacked by the opposing faction, but wearing normal armour or the armour of the opposing faction will allow you to conceal your identity and not get attacked.
