Your reasons for going to join the imperial legion

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 9:46 pm

I am debating whether to join the legion or the stormcloaks. I am leaning more towards the legion rather than the stormcloaks but I need a few good reasons.
So any reasons you can think of or your own reasons for joining the imperial legion would be greatly appreciated!

Well, since it's 200 years after the previous events, I'll have to role play a reason when I have the game.

Honestly, Morrowind nostalgia. The Legion was the first Morrowind faction I played all the way through, and to this day all my Morrowind characters join the Legion at some point. I was disappointed that the Legion was absent in Oblivion, and I'm glad it's back in Skyrim.

They can rule properly, the Stormcloaks would divide the empire and cause more wars and tyranny in the long run. I'd need to play the game a bit to see how they portray each though before I make my final decision.

1. The Empire brings peace and stability to the land of Tamriel.
2. The Empire has banned slavery and promotes equality among the many different races.
3. The Empire has allowed for Tamriel's economy to flourish with the construction of roads and infrastructure, along with giving the roads protection via the Legion.
4. The Empire is the only state that has to power to oppose the Thalmor.
5. The last time the Empire fragmented and fell apart http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Interregnum and no one benefited, there was only death, decay, and degradation of just about everything.
6. The Empire sponsors many different guilds and companies that allow for individuals to flourish, with a perfect example being The Synod/College of Whisperers (replaced the mages guild).

There are many other reasons of course, but these are just a few of the benefits that the Empire brings to the people.

This 100%.
Exact reasons I want to join the Legion. Imperial Legion is the first faction I join when I play morrowind lol. Really disappointed it wasn't there in Oblivion. =/

The only reason I'd join the Imperial Legion is to infiltrate General Tullius's quarters, so I could snap his neck while he sleeps.

Mostly the 5th option
Although I dislike the idea of single person having so much power as Emperor have, I see that only alternative to Empire is violent chaos, and it must be avoided at all cost

What are your reasons as of now? It sounds like you just kinda flipped a coin if you cannot think of any good reasons.

I joined the Legion in Morrowind and despite having posh and abrasive Imperials for superiors, it was a pretty good go of things. I especially liked the outpost at Gnarr Mok. As an Orc, it was nice to see more green guys around. :P

Well, my Breton mage has little interest in Nords, or their squables. She just wants to have money, and be able to practice her magic. Also, Imperial battlemages are badass.

She also lives to scour Dwemer ruins, which the Stormcloak seem to always be around ;)

I still don't know for sure (and I won't probably know until the game is out).

If I do join the legion, it will be in the memory of Uriel Septim VII, whom my ancestors served and adored (in-character, of course).

1. The Empire brings peace and stability to the land of Tamriel. Only by lies, deceit, and over-bearing laws that don't keep corruptness in check.
2. The Empire has banned slavery and promotes equality among the many different races. The Empire banned slavery... Except for where it benefited them otherwise, as in Morrowind. Hell, they took part in slavery themselves.
3. The Empire has allowed for Tamriel's economy to flourish with the construction of roads and infrastructure, along with giving the roads protection via the Legion. At the expense of personal freedom, of course.
4. The Empire is the only state that has to power to oppose the Thalmor. This is not a good thing.
5. The last time the Empire fragmented and fell apart http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Interregnum and no one benefited, there was only death, decay, and degradation of just about everything. That could have easily been a temporary situation. Who knows whether it would've lasted?
6. The Empire sponsors many different guilds and companies that allow for individuals to flourish, with a perfect example being The Synod/College of Whisperers (replaced the mages guild). Ah. Guilds. Yes. Guilds are not what you think they are. They do not give opportunities. Rather, guilds take them away. The point of a guild is to enforce Imperial rules on everybody's practice and allow for no independant market for mages and warriors. Basically that means if the Empire doesn't like necromancy, nobody gets to practice it, because they enforce the rules through the guild. The guild builds itself up as the sole provider of services and resources so that any warrior/mage will fail on his own. All they do is take away freedom.

There are many other reasons of course, but these are just a few of the benefits that the Empire brings to the people. No there aren't.

My arguments against the Empire are in red.

What's more important to you: personal freedom or equality? "Both" is not an option.
