Your reasons for going to join the imperial legion

My character likes the status quo and wants peace. That's why I'll side with the Empire.

I'm joining the Stormcloaks actually; I am RPing as the son of a Stormcloak (And a descendant of the Champion of Cyrodiil) who was killed by the Legion and wants revenge, got it, then was arrested for it.

My first character will be an Imperial female, BUT she will not be very fond of the Empire or the Stormcloaks. At the very least she could be considered strongly indifferent to most of what's going on around her. This is pretty much due to the fact that she's actually a bit psychotic and will secretly join both the Legion and the Stormcloaks at the same time (if allowed) and take the opportunity to cause chaos from the inside out of both factions. Why? For the hell of it and to see what she can personally gain from them. She will definitely have secret evil agendas, but will still do a good deed on occasion--whether by accident or by choice (nobody is 100% evil). But, then again, being "the hero" generally comes with fame and other perks one can exploit, and my Imperial will be smart enough to capitalize on that.

Isn't that what their trying too do?

Or is it the Empires fault that the Stormcloaks are stirring insurrection ?
Yes actually, the Empire is tightening their grip on Skyrim (from what I have heard) and the Stormcloaks want a free and independent Skyrim. So they both have their downsides, but my Khajiit is going Stormcloak, as he despises anybody who claims to, wants to or has total domination.

I am debating whether to join the legion or the stormcloaks. I am leaning more towards the legion rather than the stormcloaks but I need a few good reasons.
So any reasons you can think of or your own reasons for joining the imperial legion would be greatly appreciated!
I'm going for the Legion. The races of men need to provide a united front against the Altmer. Society needs structure and with said structure we get prolonged peace. Without it the provinces will probably go back to constant wars.

would like a source for it.

The source cannot be disclosed because it is less-than-official, but I am certain that it is the Empire that is executing you.

I will be joining the Imperial Legion because I like what they do and what they stand for. They are the dominant military authority in Skyrim (and in the Empire) and they represent order.

I don't really care about the means by which they bring order, stability and peace. I wanted to join the Enclave in Fallout 3, I couldn't. I wanted to join the Authority in RAGE, I couldn't either. Now I can join the Imperial Legion in Skyrim; I don't know if they are anything similar to the Enclave or Authority in terms of beliefs and practices, but one thing is certain: They are all the dominant military authorities in their respective games, and they all fight for order, stability and peace, albeit using whatever means they find necessary. That is the main reason why I will be joining them.

I am a badass sheep. I'll join the Legions. Today's rebels are tomorrow's overlords, anyways. They're just trying to distract Dovahkiin with their moral justifications. There are dragons. Dragons.

I need unity to fight those wyverns. Can't have people going around killing any High King they see.

You mean after they assasinated the High King of Skyrim an started the rebellion? Not a very convincing posistion of innocence.

The Stormcloaks want Skyrim too be independant from the Empire, anything else is pure speculation.

Thats what Americans thought when they elected Obama.

"Anything is better than Bush"

Let's leave politics out of this because we can discuss faults endlessly, and still not agree in the end. Neither was better or worse than the other. However, their parties are getting more and more entrenched which is not good for the country.

My mage will be on the imperial side, my rogue/thief will join the other side. That will provide a different look at things and different questlines.

The way I see it, the Empire has gone down-hill since the collapse of the Septim dynasty and the rise of the Mede dynasty. Between the Thalmor, the abandonment of Talos, Elsweyr and some other province leaving the Empire, and a general shift from good to grey.

The Empire is not what it once was. Saying that without it there would be chaos might not be entirely true, because provinces have left, and they're still standing. The only way there will be bloodshed is if the Empire bursts in guns-blazing onto every province that wants to be independent. And that's not to far-fetched, considering how they've fallen.

I'm not choosing the Stormcloaks because they're the badass rebels. No, being a rebel was cool when I was 12. I'm choosing them because I think they have better views than the Empire. If any government takes up to much space, the people will continue to have less and less power, and eventually there's going to be a French Revolution on Nirn.

I don't have a reason to join the legion, even though I will be playing as an Imperial nightblade~. They're just another one of those tyrant factions that only seek fortune.

I have no idea, I will find out in the game. I am italian, and I studied quite a bit about the Roman empire, and I know that legions are inspired by it, so for me it is not a bad thing, but I want to be convince in game about what looks and sound right to my morality. Rebels or not rebels, corruption/greed is part of humanity, and there will be always in any groups of people.

Either way, it is gonna be blooded, for whatever reasons they might tell you.
I want to see the facts first before join anyone.

If I discover later on that I joined the wrong faction, and I gonna go and assasinate the head of that faction.

Anyway are we obliged to choose or we can not to choose to advance in the main quest?

Tradition! Otherwise know as nostalgia.

The "present" situation is somewhat reminiscent to sixth and seventh century Western Europe. The Empire has fallen, but it hasn't, continuing on in a smaller form. The empire has retreated, but not in full. It surges when it can, retreats when it must. Many in the former imperial lands still think of themselves as being part of the old empire, dressing in the old ways, speaking in the old tongue. The empire's agents extend influence where they can, and local rulers pay homage to the empire as it suits them (or not), accepting titles and honors where it gives them benefit. It is of course an imperfect anology.

Some have argued that the fall of Rome was good for Europe, as the significant cultural shakeup and competition it created allowed for the creativity that led to the Renaissance, Sci Rev, Enlightenment, Industrial Rev, and all that. Of course, it also allowed for a whole lot of bloodshed.

Simply to get a view from both sides of the battle, I'll be joining the Storm Cloaks one play-through, and the next The Legion.

I really dont know who to join myself....im starting to lean towards stormcloaks, for the simple reasons it reminds me of my own country ( England ). We have foreigners constantly coming to our country ( mostly illegally ), taking advantage of the nhs and how soft our government is.....England should be ENGLAND not the United polish kingdom of muslims lol, same as the Stormcloaks want Skyrim to be SKYRIM.

Kinda went off topic ha
