I am so glad someone finally mentioned this. Its not on my list, but I remember loving this game.

If RTS RPGs do count then I'm putting up an honourable mention for Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War 2.

1. Morrowind(with mods)
2. Gothic 2
3. The Witcher

Easier to make a top 3 than i thought it would be.
I hope Skyrim will be in the top 5 at least.

1. Mass Effect 1&2
2. Gothic 1&2
3. Morrowind and ummm Dragon Age: Origins.

I expect Skyrim to be the new 2 or 3.

:P You do know though that Heroes of Might and Magic 3 is not RTS, no more than chess is RTS. It's just a strategy game. And a brilliant one at that :D

1. Morrowind
2. Majora's Mask
3. Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines
4. FFX

Edit
The Zelda games are light RPG's. Think a Game Master who creates pre-generated characters for the new players. I consider it an introductory level of RPG just putting the basics in. Without it I don't know if I would have moved into deeper games more widely recognized as RPG's. It's got just enough progression (health, magic) to get younger audiences to start thinking in that way. While there's no skills/perks/whatever there are items which do sort of upgrade and widen the available things a younger player can do teaching people to improve their gear or get more of it to do more things. They are like the protoskills of a deeper rpg.

Depends how you would define "RPG" I suppose. But even still:

Mass Effect
Morrowind
Alpha Protocol

What's Skyrim?

YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH WHEN YOU'RE TALKING TO ME.

And where is your list? Or do they not have the moving picture boxes in your country?

All you need to know is that 1 of yours is in my top 3 games of all time. :P It may not be the best in terms of RPG mechanics, but MW is still special!

Having only recently gotten into console RPGs and JRPGs, most of what I've played have been western style and either on the PC or the 360. Instead of choosing specific games, my three favourite western RPG series are:

1. Elder Scrolls
2. Mass Effect
3. Knights of the Old Republic
