Zelda vs. Skyrim for GoTY

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 7:30 am

Skyrim is superior to Zelda in every single way, and this is from an objective point of view. It's more mature, the combat is better and there are more combat options, there are more choices, the world is more open, the game is longer, there is more content, need I go on?

No, it is not better 'from an objective point of view', how can it be?
It's more mature,

Doesn't mean it's better, just means it has a different audience.
the combat is better and there are more combat options

Completely wrong. Skyward Sword has fully working, fluid motion controls that have been widely praised. Skyrim's combat, on the other hand, is one of the main criticisms it has received.
the world is more open, the game is longer, there is more content

True.

Both games are great, this thread is just pointless.

Please do. I'm really enjoying your logical fallacies and could use another laugh.

I would love see zelda get GOTY, even thou I would like skyrim to get it. If it does maybe it would spark people to get it, I will be getting it around Christmas. Who cares if it's cartoony? As long game is great, which I can't recall ever being disappointed by a zelda game since my first LOZ game I played, ocarina of time when I was like 5 or 6.

Honestly as lame as the first post is the detail that the OP never liked a Zelda game when the original Zelda is probably the best game of all time says volumes.

Agreed, like I said above, they are two COMPLETELY different games and shouldn't be against each other, as it makes no sense. I'm 20 and still will sit down and play Zelda. And for anyone saying, grow up for me playing zelda, maybe you should grow up, and stop flaming people :) Audience and opinions is all that factors.

Yes, you can, for the fact that you take the Role of link. So therefore, its an RPG. Role-Playing-Game.

Zelda is perfect for what Zelda wants to be.

Skyrim is not perfect for what it attempts to be.

I don't see why awards matter, it shouldn't affect how much you like the game and the best part is that no awards will keep CoD-esque idiots away from the franchise anyway.

Lol you exhibit an astonishing lack of intelligence.

whose main concepts/characters/storylines/gameplay mechanics), that has been recycled since orcarina of time, a GoTY award.

but it's worse cause it takes them 5 years between releases.

^ Sound familiar.

Zelda was a good game.... ten years ago. Pretty sure industry standards have risen and Zelda has stayed the same and rampant really devoted fan-ism is blinding reviewers to this fact. Also, why is really devoted fan censored, seems a bit dumb.

Right, just like you're being the "really devoted fan" of TES games here?

With your logic, Halo is a role-playing game, I'm taking on the 'role' of masterchief. CoD is a role-playing game cause I'm taking on the 'role' of a soldier. Use less woman-logic please.

I love Zelda, and I love Skyrim. But they should not be compared or contrasted together as they are two completely different games.

Skyrim and Zelda are actually very similar when you think about it

That would be kind of weird since it sin;t a RPG. It is an action adventure game. They even say so.

GOTY is really just a title. Game Infomer, IGN, Spike all give out GOTY awards.

people need to grow up, how can you say that a game is bad because it looks colourful (what you call childish), is it "uncool" to play zelda because of its presentation? they're both the best games of 2011.

Zelda, Uncharted 3, Skyrim = ALL DESERVING.

I don't WANT Skyrim/Zelda to win because titles like "GOTY" draw in CoD-playing idiots who ruin fan bases.. Uncharted (as much as I love the franchise) already has those idiots, so it can win for all I care.

Titles don't matter anyway.. should change how much you like the game.

I think CS Lewis puts it well:

Critics who treat advlt as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be advlt themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being advlt is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.

It's a good thing for people who don't care about a popularity award that we have both Skyrim and Skyward Sword to thoroughly enjoy.
Keep trying not to be childish, children.

It's already happened with Skyrim, Bethesda wanted to appeal to a broader market with Skyrim, and well the end result is a flawed (for eveything but the 360) watered down RPG.
